    Default a little problem

    Hi,

I recently reinstalled RTW in my pc, and heard lots of good things about this mod, so i decided to try it. However, ive had some little problems because i cant really play the game. So, ill explain what i did to see if you can help me. I installed RTW, and then BI. After that, i read the "Read me" file of SPQR and played the tutorial in the game, not to the end, only won the first tutorial battle, took a city, and left. Then, i tried to install the 1.3 patch, as the read me file says, but i somehow cant get to open it. when i click on it i get a little window that says:

    Setup has experienced an error.

    Please do the following:

    -Close any running programs.
    -Empty your temporary folder.
    -Check your Internet connection.

Then try to run the setup again.

I do all of that, close everything, then empty the folder and my internet works fine, but i still get the message. Because of that, i installed the 1.5 patch over my game. Finally, i made sure that the preference.txt file had
First time play as false, and then installed SPQR 6.4. When the files finish loading, the game window closes and nothing else happens.

Then my problem starts: How do i run SPQR???

I cant find any .bat file, or an icon to run the game. If i run RTW the vanilla game starts. So, how do i play the game??

The reason why i wrote the steps of what i did is just for you to tell me if i did something wrong. Do i have to win the whole prologue? or if i MUST install the 1.5 patch over the 1.3 patch, then how do i stop that error message to appear?

Im sorry if there is a thread for this problem already, i obviously didn't see it

You need 1.5 installed before installing SPQR and make sure you won the prologue or at least change the FIRST_TIME_PLAY to False, only then install SPQR.

Which can be done by opening the file "preferences.txt" in your RTW folder and looking for that line, btw.

Apart of that, he needs to have 1.3 installed before he can install 1.5...Then he can install SPQR.

Yealthecruel, you need the files as .zip, this will solve you're problem. I'll so that once I'm at home, will upload them here.

    1. Install the game
    2. Install patch 1.3
    3. Install patch 1.5
    4. Open preferences.txt in the preferences folder, and set FIRST_TIME_PLAY to false
    5. Copy the entire Rome Total War folder
    6. Install SPQR 6.4 to the copied folder.

Okay, wait, isn't his problem that he has BI installed, too? Therefore I'd say he needs the BI 1.6 patch, which does patch RTW to 1.5 too. Right? And since BI does patch RTW to 1.3 automaticly, that's the reason he can't install the RTW standalone 1.3 patch.

No i really made sure i selected the right folder. Plus it is installed in C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome TotalWar, which i think is the default folder SPQR has.

I thought about doing that but i wasn't sure. I guess ill try using the 1.6 patch and reinstall SPQR to see what happens.

Only a question, once i install SPQR, how do i run it? After i installed it a folder called "SPQR read-me" appears but it only has an icon, images and word and excel files. I mean, where is the file to run SPQR?

He doesnt need to change first time play or play the prolog as I added a preference folder that already changes that when you install the mod. I have no idea why people keep telling people to play the prolog. I think I even edited the text on the install of the mod when run not to say you have to play the prolog

    The readme says otherwise
