CRaSH question

I am getting a freeze/auto reboot during my campain game, and during my battles. This problem started happening after my installation of 1.2. After about 10 turns the game will freeze. Usually the cursor freezes when i select troops or enter the city screen in the campain. I then try to Ctrl+alt+del, or alt+tab but the game is completely frozen and i have to restart my computer. (sometimes it just auto reboots after the freeze.) If im in a battle it usually freezes about 5 min. into it, and either i have to manually restart or itll auto-reboot.

I have uninstalled M2TW(also manually deleting the sega folder) many times. then i try again to install it. ( my goal is to install 1.2 effectively so that i can play The Long Road Mod 2.0)

1) I first completely uninstall the game. (also delete sega folder)

2)I then install the patch by clicking on the icon. (it will go into winrar self extracting archive and extract itself, then the official M2tw setup will begin and i can go through the steps to install the patch.). It takes a very long time to finish installing the patch 1.2.( THIS SIGNALS A PROBLEM WITH THE INSTALLATION RIGHT?????). After the long install time the setup says that the game was installed correctly and everything is ok.

3) i then start the game (vanilla) and the menu says it is upgraded to 1.2

4) start the campain, and after a while the freezes occure.

Originally i would install everything and then install the MOD that i had (TLR). Because it was freezing i decided to uninstall everything and then install only vanilla and the 1.2 patch just to verify that it wasnt the MOD. It turned out that the problems were occuring because of the 1.2 patch.

I an NOT using a NO CD crack. (only the DVD)

I am using the English(US) version of M2TW

I have not used the Unpacker tool. So i dont need to delete the geography files. Right???

I did not modify any of the files in the original M2TW 1.0 folder before patching it to 1.2.

I have downloaded the patch several times from different websites,(incase of a corrupted download) and the same problems occured with every patch. (I installed every one on fresh copy of M2TW)

I even downloaded the patch on a different computer with a better internet connection. I noticed that on the other computer the patch icon has a box with books in it. When ive downloaded it on my computer the patch icon is a little blank screen. I burned the patch to a cd to transfer it from the other computer to my own and as soon as i copied the file to my desktop the file had a little blank screen icon. (instead of the box with books that it had on the other computer.

Could this mean that i am missing a utility needed to install correctly ???

I tried to be pretty thorough in my question. im just hoping to fix this 1.2 problem so that i can install and play the TLR mod without freezing or crashes.

does anybody know of anything that i could do???

Hmmm, that sounds like heat to me (provided the freeze times remain relatively constant)

Do you have another modern game you could test to see if this happens there as well?

Regarding #2 above, a long installation is a good sign.

I was given several different installation instructuctions and decided to try them.
so then i tried to install the patch 1.2 by extracting it to the medieval 2 folder. and then clicking on the setup icon from there and so far i believe it works. (even with the mod).
as with the heating I tracked the temperature of my graphics card and and it got to about 90-94.
Im going to lower the graphics settings to relieve some of the burden on my graphics card.

(and ive done a thourogh cleanup of the dust in my tower. ( to help cooling )

Good news is that I believe that the 1.2 Patch is working correctlty (no freezes in campain, or several battles )

If so, that seriously needs some cooling improvements

well i dont know what else i can do..... Ive cleaned the tower, fans, ect. . completely removing all of the dust inside.

normally (without the game) it runs at about 57 C. But then it rises rapidly during the battles. and after i close M2TW it goes back down to normal.
