When can I retrain them?
When can I retrain them?

Hey Jegui, I noticed we are in the same year in our campaigns. When do you plan to get republican legions? (I wish I had started on H/H... even against the germans, my premarian legions are winning). I did remove the experience bonus that the romans get from the academy line of buildings to make it harder, which it certainly will be.
You can always use 'romesage' to change campaign difficult settingsI plan to get my republican legions whenever I construct imperial palace in one Italian city and Republican barracks in at least 12 cities which is the number of legions I'm fielding at the moment... My most developed city still only has 22k population and I need at least 20 turns to complete the palace so I'd say sometime in between 270-275 to reform the entire army

you mean 170-175 I assume?
I just started seven of my imperial palaces, its 181 BC. What I'll do, is take the legions home one by one to their home city and disband, then replace them with the republican legion + auxilia, and send them back, then switch off with another legion to reform them. I won't do it all at once because then my borders would be open. I have about 20 premarian legions though, and through the reform process, I will disband some of the legions (if I don't own their home city yet) and others will be reformed into auxiliary legions. I will have 1 auxilia legion for each republican legion, so when the republican legion takes losses, they are replaced immediately with troops from the auxiliary legion, which will be in a fort very close by. This way I shouldn't have to use mercenaries, except perhaps to supplement the auxilia legions if they are badly weakened and need to keep fighting.
Two of my best legions on the german front are being refitted right now, they took a real beating (being premarian, and fighting hordes of chosen axemen). Both of them lost over half their strength fighting three battles each. Its fun being in such dire straights. I honestly don't know if I will be able to hold out against them for long, unless I get reinforcement legions fast.
To top it off, one of my legions on the greek border just rebelled, stalling my plans to progress towards constantinople.
You won't later as your kill count will drop bad in H/H Logistics will make the game harder later, and in the desert the other factions get bonuses and the Romans get a negative bonus. Egypt, Parthia, pontus, armenia anyone? lol Watch for the Darn archers.
BTW Garnier you kinda ruined your own game by making too many Merc units, I told you it really isnt a good idea as they make the game easier, hence why they arent in the house rules. I only use them in small batches when things are tight.
Yeah at first I replaced slingers with mercenaries, but as of 200 BC or so, I stopped using mercs altogether, except as replacements for frontline legions when I lose lots of men in battle. Now I have money overflowing... lol. I have about 20 legions though, and I'm spending excess money on bribing small enemy armies, so I don't get corruption. But by removing the experience bonus that the academy buildings give, I should have a harder time later on, when my imperial legionaries are recruited with no experience.
