Default Any good Native American mods being made by modders? (not CA)

    Hello
I haven't heard from Anyan in a long time. Do you know what happened to him? Also, is anyone here working on a mod about Native Americans that is different and unique from what CA is doing in Kingdoms? If so, how is the progress of your mod going?

Im currently doing a re-mod of Gundugs Otherworld, the aim being that only Aztec and Slave ,who will be native amercicans will be present. Mod will include Gundugs excellent mounted aztec units. There is a little tweaking to be done, but I expect it to be compleeted within the week. If you want a copy Im happt to send it for you, you could help me by being a neautral tester for me.

    let me know
    Cheers
    Jason

I'm currently pulling together materials for a proper preview, including a completely redone map, faction icons and music. Hopefully by this time we'll have our own forums. We still need a modeller/skinner to do a few units if anyone's interested. If you can stay on the team afterwards, even better!

Here's a peak at the new map, in comparison with the old one.

    Old map:

New map (it's actually bigger, just more zoomed out):

Hi TommyKnocker. That map looks awesome.

How are the Native American units going to be compared to the European ones and what type of Native American factions are there going to be?

Also, is the time period going to allow for melee infantry and heavy cavalry charges? Because I think the 1700s there was not so much melee infantry fighting, it was mostly men shooting muskets at each other (like American Revolution) plus some bayonette fighting, and cavalry though I think they did play a role to kill routing units and cannon positions with sabres and small muskets. But they didn't use lances from horses anymore did they?

All the attack and armour ratings will be historically accurate, so we won't be bumping up the Native American tribes for the sake of it. Having said that, earlier in this period the Europeans mainly had poorly trained militia in the Americas as the bulk of their armies, with little or no armour. Later on, as the colonies grew, musketeers, pikemen and cavalry were still quite lightly armoured. What people usually don't realise is the composite longbows used by the tribes were actually far more effective than muskets anyway- better range, accuracy, piercing and reloading time.

Native American units will be much smaller, with no formation. They will have high morale, mostly be able to hide anywhere, and have bonuses in their usual terrain. I'm going to see if it's possible to have them ambush every time they attack, so not just when enemy armies walk into them- as they rarely lined up and presented themselves as an organised army.

No you're right, not much melee will be involved when it comes to the Europeans. I haven't done much research on the use of cavalry in the Americas, but I know at least back in Europe cuirassiers were being put to use. I'm pretty sure the Spanish brought a fair few over.

So the Native American tribes, they had a composite longbow that was similar in range, accuracy, penetration to an English longbow? I am betting the guys at CA will have the Indians have bows which are short range and not so good, if that is the case.

Maybe you can make the Indian units, since they will have less numbers have 2 HP each, like the Hashishim are in the normal game. In real life, the Hashishim assassins weren't uber powerful, but in the game they made them have 2 HP to make up for the fact they had half the number as a normal unit. It didn't make them uber powerful, but probably equal in power to an English Armored Swordsmen.

Not quite, they weren't particularly powerful bows, it's just the muskets of the time were pretty awful. The main reason Europeans used them were they didn't take a lifetime to master unlike the bow, and could be used after only a couple weeks training. And warfare was more about fashion, it would not look right if your nation wasn't utilising the latest technology.

I'm not really a big fan of giving more than 1 hit point. The native American warriors will be much cheaper to recruit, making up for the lack of numbers in a unit, which means more of them overall. They will also have many other bonuses, like the ones I mentioned.
