    Default Complicated?

Is this game so complicated it can make learning it a chore, and thus not fun? I mean I absolutely hate games that throw all sorts of info at you without properly explaining and teaching you everything, or there's so much to learn that the game isn't that fun. I mean this game looks awesome, but the complexity of it kind of turns me away from it. I've played and enjoyed Civ 3, is it more complicated than that? If so how much? Because I am seriously considering buying this game.

As i said in another thread, it will be overwhelming at first. But give it some time, do the tutorials, consult the manual and just play your way forward and you will learn. It isn't that hard to learn actually, as long as you do the above. You learn from your mistakes, and well, you will be making alot in the beginning

I say buy it and you can always ask here for help if you really get stuck

The official forums are also pretty active and can be very useful when learning. I've played the series since the first Europa Universalis and still ask questions there time to time. The EU series aren't as complicated as games like Victoria but if you're new to the series it might seem like it.

I found the tutorial pretty helpful, along with the manual. It might take you about a game to learn most everything. The good thing about this game is you can play so many countries. That added to the mods bring alot of replayability.

Did you buy your's in a store Scotish? I can't find any around here, I checked Frys and Best Buy so maybe Comp USA has it.

EDIT: NM I am dl ing right now, got sometime to play it too, got to wait for the air conditioner repair man. Hope I'll be able to learn this game quickly.

I got it, played tutorials, played a nation, sucked, put it on the shelf. Picked it up, played tutorials, played game, set modest goals loved it. And always have your manuel right by you if your too lazy to read it the first time

Bah, it was totally relevent to the convo, and it seemed pointless to miss out on a good example of a WC attempt in that relevent convo.

(Really though, WC on your first campaign would probably get you smacked. Hard.)

I didn't play the tutorials as I already know the system. I mean it's changed slightly but if you're a EU vet then you shouldn't need the tutorials ... unless you really want to of course. I have to say I disliked the game at first. Being a massive EUII fan I found the new graphics annoying and with the historical events gone there wasn't much to like about the game so after playing it for an hour when I first got it I then abandoned the game for a few months before forcing myself to try it again and after a good few hours playing I decided ok It's not as bad as I thought I'm looking forward to the expansion and the return to historical events which will make the game much more entertaining for me. Certain mods have already made the game more enjoyable in relation to events. MM for one!

I for one love the absence of historical events, it lets you create you own world how you want it, and not force you to take part in a history lesson.

I'm the opposite I want to see how i match up to History and compare to the country in question. For example playing as England in the 1640's I want to take part in the English Civil War. It's the same with Total War. If I play as Rome I want to conquer the World in the order that the Romans did it historically. Let's remember you don't have to do everything Historically but I like for certain major events to trigger at that specific time in history.

There are plenty of players who want to see the re-introduction of Historical events and thankfully it will be optional with the Napoleon add-on so those that don't want it don't have to have it.

But the English Civil War only happened because of the disagreements (obviously) between parliament and the king. By the 1640's in the game you might not have a king or a parliament or atleast not both, and therefore it wouldn't make sense. Also, you might have always kept the sliders in a way that should keep a parliament happy, but they might not anyways.

Quite. It just doesn't work for me, but I know some miss them.

Yea but I'm talking about choosing a particular point in history to play. I started a game in 1641 when I got the game hoping for some sort of civil war but all I got was two uprisings in Glamorgan due to Religious unrest in 1644 lol.

the MM mod gave the opportunity to take part in the War of the Roses at the start of the Grand Campaign but i've played the vanilla game more than the Mods due to the fact I wanted to continue the inital 1640's game I started. Once the expansion is out I'll see how it is.

Thats good news, I was afraid that it was going to be forced upon me if I wanted the expansion. I am really starting to love Paradox . I might not be playing EU3 for a while though, just picked up a new football game that I am completely attached too lol.
