    Default Freeze Frequency ???

    Hello
I have been trying to install and play the long road. the problem is that I am experiencing random freeze ups during the campain and battles.

I have an english(USA) DVD version of the game.
I have installed the 1.2 patch.
I have also updated the drivers to my Graphics Card. (Nvidia geforce 6600)

I am trying to figure out why the game keeps freezing on me. Its a great mod but i cant seem to play it long enought to "get into it" without my game freezing.

This MOD seems like it should be pretty stable. I just want to figure out why my version keeps freezing.

    ANY IDEAS???

When does the freeze exactly happen??? you need to be more specific with the details of the freeze.

Remove your Nocd crack, and use the original

Well during the campain it usually freezes when i am in the city or seige screen.(after I click on something). Sometimes the cursor flickers on and off and then everything just freezes. (ive tried ctrl+alt+del, alt+tab, and pushing the escape button. )Once or twice the computer actually restarted when the game froze. other times it just stayes frozen and i have to manually turn off the computer and restart. When I was playing a Battle from my campain, it ran ok until about half the battle then the cursor just froze (again nothing worked to get me out of it,everything was frozen). After this i started a campain on the normal medieval total war(not The long Road) and it worked fine. I also played 2 custom battles and they went fine. I then played 3 custom battles on TLR and 1 of them froze. Ive installed a fresh copy of M2TW, the 1.2 patch and TLR 2.0 a couple of times. I believe i am installing everything right. I was having similar problems with a different mod ( sicilian Vespers) so i decided to switch to The long Road. Although Freezes in TLR are fewer than when i was using SV, i am still experiencing them on a fairly frequent basis. I have cleaned(dusted) the inside and outside of my PC(to make sure everything was cooling alright.) and I have updated all of my Graphics drivers. I am NOT using a NoCD crack (i dont need it since i have the CD)I really want to play this great mod, but i need to fix the freezes that i am experiencing. I hope that you guys can help me out since you know more about this kind of stuff than I do. THANKS

I use a no-cd crack ever since shogun too badly scratched to install (might have something to do with all my cd's just laying about on top of my tower?)

If I remember correctly the geforce 6600 has problems with this game (or its a different game I am thinking about).

Personally with your second post I am leaning towards the fact that it might be something you did/have thats causing the problem.

Since Vanilla works fine but mods don't did you remember to change your graphic settings, etc. after installing the mod(s)? Because the long road doesn't carry over the changes you did to vanilla.

I checked to make sure that the graphic settings in TLR are set to the exactly the same as the vanilla. i played a battle just to see what would happen and the game froze.

I noticed that the sound gets "stuck"(it repeats the same note). i dunno if this signals conflicts with the sound hardware or if it is just a normal thing when a game freezes.

( i should note however that i havent had any problems with the graphics or sound of any other games that i have --civ 4, company of heroes, sim city 4, IL-2)

I agree with you that the problem is unique to my case, I HAVENT VERY MANY OTHER INCIDENTS OF TLR FREEZING.

TLR does freeze but no more then Vanilla, and generally less.

Its extremely odd that Vanilla works fine yet mods do not. Don't mean to be a pain but since what your experiencing sounds like your hardware not keeping up to your software could you check one more time that all the configs the same (sound, gameplay, etc. as well).

TLR 2.0.0 (which I assume your running) is very stable and the only thing that really happens is the odd crash (I haven't experienced one but others have particularly with rebels at end turn.).

Check your tower to make sure its not too hot. I know I had a problem of games in general freezing (especially when using high end settings) because my tower would overheat.

Try running vanilla again and see if freezes or not.

If all else fails go to tech support with Total War and talk to one of the techies (claim all the freezing is during vanilla) and they may be able to help you more.

Just remember to remove all your emulator drives beforehand else they get whinny.

Hey thanks for the help XENO_CWS (its great to be able to go to a forum, ask a question and get honest suggestions)

knowing for sure that TLR definitey a stable mod helps things out a lot.

I think that I am going to re install everything over again. (maybe doing a fresh install with the new graphics drivers, will help) and see what happens.

i know i rarely ever have problems with vanilla. the problems have come when i have tried to patch 1.2 and install the mods.

i am really confident that this issue will be solved somehow.

ILL GRACIOUSLY ACCEPT ANY HONEST SUGGESTIONS FROM ANYONE

Well, if Vanilla runs fine then I assume it is not a hardware problem. Your video card is decent enough to run the game, and shouldn't have any problems anyway.

So it must be something about TLR - my guess, some file is messed up. Try reinstalling Medieval, then making a copy of that entire folder for TLR. Re-download the TLR installer (a corrupted installer - do you have spotty wireless access to the internet? I've been there, and it would probably do exactly what you're experiencing) and try reinstalling everything.

It wouldn't hurt to update all your drivers, if it is a custom built PC - otherwise, don't bother. Do all the windows updates too, although I highly doubt that is it.

And even though I have yet to get Medieval (soon, my PC was dead! I'm sorry, TWC!), it might matter: Were you using the same faction in the campaign and custom battles? Or was a faction involved in everything that crashed? Many crashes in battle (at least in Rome) were problems with the crucial text files and models. (descr_model_battle gave me hell back with Rome modding)

Other than that, it seems highly unusual for a mod to work with everyone but you. Hopefully reinstalling it will fix it, although it is a pain to take the time.

But for the vast majority of these mods - worth it!

ok, i had the same sort of problem, on the camp map my game would freeze every so often, after posting a few times on the forum torn told me to move the SD files out of the medieval 2/longroad/data folder, and ever since ive had no problems, ya could try doing this, just a guess, theres two SD files in the folder and as much as i know, they are the new factions flag symbols for the camp map, not too shure what else there for, but playing the game ive had no problems with it since and dont believe im missing out on too too much. cant remember exatly where these SD files are in the long road data folder, but a few minutes of searching and youl find em, Hope this helps

Right, Seph that completely left my mind. SD files were causing quite a few problems with some people in the previous release and torn fixed (I believe) most of it for 2.0.0.

Maybe your one of the unlucky ones who experience this? Also removing the SD files will barely effect your mod experience so no worries!

If that fails, it could be 1.2 in general. Just out of curiosity do you run Vista? I know some people in general (vanilla, etc.) have problems running MTW:2 with it.

Zu listed another possibility that your download was corrupted. Try downloading again.

If all else fails just wait for 2.1.0 release where many bugs fixed and new additions. You just have to wait for it (or hack torns computer)

Hey guys that is really weird. Reason I stated the above was simply because I was expriencing exactly the same freezes in game you mention, and it was caused by an edited executable file - I replaced the stock Medieval2.exe with a nocd version. I hate having to use the original dvd all the time, but it definitely was that in my case.

Sometimes the music and sound effects would continue but the strategic map would lock and I would have to restart the pc.
