Any Way To Play As Celts?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there was any small modification that would allow you to play as the Celts in the Barbarian Invasion mod?

I say this because it looks like it would be fun and a bit of a challenge as they're tucked away at the top of Britain with one settlement surrounded by Romans!

Any ideas guys?

Find data/world/maps/base/(whatever the BI campaign is called, i don't have BI)/descr_strat.txt

At the top there should be a list of playable and nonplayable and unlockable factions. cut and paste at your lesiure.

This screenshot shows how to make another faction playable in BI.



The window in the background shows the path to the file you need to edit. This is the version of BI that comes in the Eras boxed set. The path to the file might be different if you have a different edition...but it wont be difficult to find the file.

The top window shows that the word celts was moved from non playable to playable.

You must take a copy of the file and keep it safe somewhere else BEFORE you change anything. Many players have screwed up..you need to be space and tab perfect in alignment.

Celts, Lombards and other non-playable factions seem too easy. As the Lombardii, I remember I just trained a few berserkers and routed everything on my way with them.

With the Celts, a few Hounds of Culann and Gallowglasses will destroy everything on the way. It's far too easy to train berserkers as them, and the berserkers themselves can stand a whole devastating enemy charge and still rout any enemy.

I love the Celts... Berserkers rampaging around is so awesome. Plus they have purple skin.

The various Celtic tribes fascinate me how they used to roam around Europe picking fights with pretty much everyone.

I don't know about BI, but the Celtic-Gauls are really tough to use online. That's unfortunate because I'd love to fight against them more often.

Well, Gaul truly sucks either offline or online. Once I read Celtic units tend to have more massive routs than any other factions in this game, and it's true: if a warband routs, then all those great chosen swordsmen will run too and make an easy prey for enemy light cavalry they were supposed to be fighting. Britons get chariots, but I don't personally like them as they take time and space to maneuver without disorganizing your own troops.

But the Celts in BI are a different story; they get berserkers early on, plus gallowglasses. While they may still get massive routs like I said above, they have a much better chance of destroying an enemy line and putting enemies to run. I find them better than the Saxons, IMHO, and the Saxons are one of the weakest germanic tribes in the game.

My Gaul campaign was my quickest. Less than 15 years.

My Celt campaign was more of a story about completing the game before the faction hier died. Didnt use the Beserkers in order to make it a bit more difficult. Liked those Gallowglasses.

Edit: By the way Severous - I've just read your AAR on the Celtic campaign and it's pretty impressive! I'm hoping to have as much fun with them as you clearly have!!
