The Kingdom of Armenia

Background information (from wikipedia):

The Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia (also known as Lesser Armenia; Armenian: Կիլիկիոյ Հայկական Թագաւորութիւն, not to be confused with the Armenian Kingdom of Antiquity) was a state formed in the Middle Ages by Armenian refugees fleeing the Seljuk invasion of Armenia. It was located on the Gulf of Alexandretta of the Mediterranean Sea in what is today southern Turkey. The kingdom was independent from around 1078 to 1375.

The Kingdom of Cilicia was founded by the Rubenian dynasty, an offshoot of the larger Bagratid family that at various times held the thrones of Armenia and Georgia. Their capital was Sis. Cilicia was a strong ally of the European Crusaders, and saw itself as a bastion of Christendom in the East. It also served as a focus for Armenian nationalism and culture, since Armenia was under foreign occupation at the time.

Notice the excellent *new* scale armour mount for the Bodyguard. Armenians are now as good looking as any of our Muslim factions and also has the appropriate eastern feel. Plus the additions of horse archers, which were so lacking in the original roster.

Great work AlphaDelta, someone rep that man!


EDIT: Oh and BTW, could some of the Armenians here help us out in the unit descriptions thread with Armenians units? It would be much appreciated.

exelent preview, all the units are looking fantastic, but what are Trebizond Archers doing in Armenian roster.

A faction's roster is not simply the faction itself but also the locals which would have been recruited into their ranks. This is why a faction like the Seljuk Turks also features Azeris, or why the ghaznavids (A Turko-Iranian Dynasty) features Pakistanis too.

I had seen Trebizond Archers in a picture that featured an Armenian King and an Armenian Heavy Cavalrymen, and if a better term can be supplied for them (That is not something like Border ______ or caucasian _______ or Cicilian _______), then we could switch to that, but I personally am fine with it staying, as it helps convey the very true reality that no kingdom's army was homogenous of it's native peoples. I believe John I Tzimisces or someone else mentioned in the Armenia Topic, or perhaps a topic about Armenia somewhere, that the Cicilian Kingdom was not just made up of Native Armenians, given it was a kingdom established not within greater Armenia.

lol, I wish the Armenians still had some badass Cataphract Horse Archers like in RTW. It wouldn't make sense but I just loved playing them in RTW.

The roster is solid though, can't wait to try them out.
