Default End of the World as we know it, in 5 years?

Have you guys heard about this?

There are prophecies and oracles from around the world that all seem to point to December 21, 2012 as doomsday. The ancient Mayan Calendar, the medieval predictions of Merlin, the Book of Revelation and the Chinese oracle of the I Ching all point to this specific date as the end of civilization. A new technology called "The Web-Bot Project" makes massive scans of the internet as a means of forecasting the future... and has turned up the same dreaded date: 2012. Skeptics point to a long history of "Failed Doomsdays", but many oracles of doom throughout history have a disturbingly accurate track record. As the year 2012 ticks ever closer we'll speculate if there are any reasons to believe these doomsayers.

Personally I think it's a hoax (remember the asteroid that was supposed to hit the Earth in 2006?); but just to be sure, I'm going to have the greatest 5 years of my life this next few years if life will end afterward.

I actually posted this so that Sim, as he always does, will post a counterexample, and make me happy.

Here: http://www.adam.com.au/bstett/ReligDoomsday66.htm is a list of disproved doomsday prophecies. As you can see, there are about a million of them. Not one self proclaimed seer has been right so far.

Chalk this mayan one up as another false prophecy to add to the list. Didn't the bible warn us to not heed the false prophets?

Idk i heard of this along time ago and i dont beleive it, im relegious so in my opinion god wouldnt forecast the end of the world to everyone so u know when u would have to get saved by, and if it is true and whenever the world does end there isnt a damn thing we can do about it or stop it so there isnt any point in worrying about it, u just have to live ur life and do ur best to be happy.

And btw the temple has to be rebuilt in Jerusalem before the world ends

How is it? By the law of great numbers (or however it is called in English) one of them ought to be right at some point assuming the probability of world ending is not equal zero...

    Succinctly, it is nonsense.
Maybe "Sim" will put it less succinctly.
    But that's the best answer.
Note that "The Web Bot Project", is not automatic.
    It's manual.
People interpret it in light of their supersitions.

I remember someone posting and stating that it only stops there because they decided that the Calender was long enough for now.

    I found this interesting:

We are part of a smaller galaxy that the Milky Way has put the 'come hither' on and we are just now coming down even with and apparently going to actually turn and join with the spinning whirlpool Milky Way disc after some 2 billion years of circling around it at a near right angle as part of our parent galaxy called the Sagittarius Dwarf.

This grand turning is also the root cause for the discontinuation of the Mayan calendar (the most accurate on the planet) because the 'read-point' of the Pleiades star cluster from Earth the calendar was based upon could no longer be a constant as we begin to steer away from the earlier chart-ably predictable movement. This is a third discovery made 5 months after the first two, and possibly gives 2012 ancient prophesy issues a somewhat different perspective and footing.

I don't think that the 2012 prophecy is all bullcrap. The Mayans were excellent astronomers and their calendar is more accurate than the Gregorian calender we use today. Scientists have discovered that on that precise day, Dec. 21, 2012 the earth and sun will be aligned with the center of the galaxy. The result of such an alignment is unknown, however. Some scientists have speculated that it might cause a polar shift in the earths crust which could lead to the collapse of civilization as we know it.

That was me, Im sure of it. I whole heartedly believe that the Mayans decided that 1000 years worth of predictions was good enough for now... or then, depending on perspective...

Last I read, on a astronomical website, the Mayan calender actually recycles on that day, it doesn't simply end. It points to a new beginning.

The pole shift is real, and its happening, its also happened in the past. Magnetic North becomes magnetic South and so on. North isn't exactly where north used to be already. Scientists are really in the dark as to when the flip will complete, it could happen all at once, or continue to gradually flip over time as it is now.

The earth doesn't flip over or anything, the magnetics just reverse. Its effects on humans are unknown, but for animals that rely on magnetics to navigate, its definitely a bad thing.

That is one of the theories for large beaching events of whales and other marine life.

Here's a question, who the hell are the mayans to tell us anything about anything? Where are they now? They had enough foresight to predict the end of the world but not enough foresight to ensure the survival of their own people and culture?

The same people whose kings ritualistically stabbed themselves under the scrotums at their coronation are gonna be telling us whats what now?

Well it's some solar explanation, which they're supposed to be good at.

The two theories involving science are this:

1.) The sun will line up with the earth, Jupiter, Saturn, and a Black Hole in the Center of the Universe. This will cause the Sun's Plasma to wobble out and hit the Earth's Atmosphere.

I don't really buy this, because the gravitational pull of the black hole shouldn't really effect the sun's wobble (as it's always there). The alignment of Jupiter and Saturn shouldn't effect the wobble too much, as they've aligned themselves up in this way before.

2.) The other theory is that the Sun's Core will shift and the magnetic effect will cause the Earth's Core to switch if this happens too quickly, it will cause massive earthquakes and volcanic activity because of a solid core and a liquid magma area...whatever. I think Earth's Core has moved in this way in the past, and I doubt it will do anything if it happens again; I also doubt it will move this fast.

I've looked over and over an over and over and over, and I can't find anything really saying that I Ching, Merlin, or the Web Bot Project said the World would end in Deceber 21, 2012.

Still I'm going to enjoy as much as I can out of life, and live it to the fullest.

Sorry for doublepost, but I can't find any respectable organization independent of websites such as 'endtimes' or 'urbansurvival' or 'abovetopsecret'.

Clearly this is BS, but...it's interesting.
