The Best of the Bad Factions

I'm referring my question to online play. But it can be applied to Campaign mode as well.

Alright, I personally consider there to be several "Bad" factions online. By "bad," I mean they don't win battles. Not even against Greece.

These are the factions that get tossed around like ragdolls online:
- Spain
- Gaul
- Thrace

Who do you think is the best out of those 3 factions? This is what each faction has:

GAUL


THRACE


I'd give the edge to Gaul. They've got the closest thing resembling a conventional heavy cavalry force and their archers (Forester Warbands) are one of the game's best. Foresters are a bit pricy for the denarii level I play at, but they're also decent in hand-to-hand fighting. Also, I find the Chosen Swordsmen to be superior to Thrace's Phalanx Pikemen.

I'd have to go with Thracia.

They have those bastarnae along with phalanxes, regular archers, and javelin cavalry. If everybody sucks, the most flexible wins. In a pinch you can always use generals as cavalry.

spain has some nice units, scutarii, and bullwarriors(similar to legion stat-wise, but with 2 hps)

bu the lack of archers really puts them ant a disadvantage in pitched battles

Tharce has the leading edge followed by Spain, I say. They've got a good selection of tough warriors for the fight, including the standard pike phalanx and barbarian falxmen, who can be used against the flanks or rear of enemy hoplites due to their flexibility. If everything else fails, just make a spear wall with your phalanxes.


On the campaign, Gaul and Spain are better. both have stronger economies than Thrace and have greater chances of survival, contrary to Thrace which gets attacked by Scythia and Macedon on two fronts. Thrace has a weak cavalry and most Thracian units don't have exceptional armour, so they'll be easily crushed by Scythian armies focused on horse archers & other missile units. And the Militia hoplites they get on the start just can't hold a line against any serious attack, and certainly not against Macedonian pikes. Scythians will just keep distance and rout any phalanx with their superb Horse Archers.

So, fighting against both Macedon and Scythia, Thrace will suffer heavy losses and will struggle to keep the fight away from her cities and from her fragile economy.

I like Spain the most, i love their bull warriors. they are awesume

O dear lord. I have forgotten what vanilla was like. Can't believe those were all the units for those factions.

I reacon spain or thrace are the best faction, spain have the good infantry but lack the archers, while thrace have phalanx pikemen and also have archers, they both have rubbish cavalry. But if i was too choose out of the both of them id probibly say spain.

Lol yeah same, but sometimes i like too stack the odds against myself and pick a real underdog faction

I'd rank Dacia above Gaul, Spain and Thrace just because of its Scythian Archers.

Is spain that bad? Baleric slingers, long shield cav, scutarii, all affordable at 10K and make a decent army no?

Yeah also Dacia gets two types of archers and them HA as well as catapults. But spain is bad as the cav is weaker than most factions cav and is only light cav also scutarii have a v low amount of armour (so do bulls have v little armour). but the Balerics are ok.

By the way, OCTAVIUM, I rate Spain as the worst faction to use online hehehe

But as I said, I think it's exciting if people use those under-used factions.

The weakest is gual, as someone said, British without chariots.

But Thrace and Spain I rank equal, the bull warriors or the bastanare both have 2 hp each so do last for some time. Spain I find does better on the open feild becasue of some of it's units are more like the romans units and when supported can really give out a punch.

Thrace does better in seiges, even win them becasue of their archers and phalanax, and who says Thrace can't win MP and useing Bastanare to defend the walls against enemy infnatry they can hold them whilst archers deal with men at base and towers.

Gaul possesses one of the finest foot-archer units in the game (Forester Warbands). Briton players wish they had Foresters.

I like getting people to do a gaul vs dacia or spain or thrace 3 v 3 as the factions may all lack something (or most things) but as they all lack it it makes it a fair battle

Gaul are very hardy soilders but are weak at archer and calvary

Spain does not have the professionalism to with stand the three

Thrace has trust worthy (professional) units and are flexible through the three class (infantry, calvary, and missile)

This desicion depends on who they would engage war agianst. if these factios would wage war on each other, Gaul would defeat them because they have stronger units in the begining. If you are meaning who would win ina battle, well Thrace will win.
