    Default Dismounted Mailed Knights

Here's a preview of the new Dismounted Mailed Knights, that will be featured in SV 2.1:

The painted helms have also been removed from the Mounted Version, for all factions.

    [EDIT]

The mail coif won't have the white marks in the final version, I just redid the normal texture to get rid of them.

    I want Swabian Jedi knights!
Honestly: That looks promising. Can't wait for the seargant swordsmen.

Do you plan to adjust the replenishment rate of elite units, since more regular mainstay-units become available?

(I do not like the Varangian-catapult-armies, the Norse-Axemen-armies or the Hashishim-armies. The latter is not very frequent, but the first two are quite regular.)

This will most likely get taken care of when we do the AOR.

Here is a pic of the Sicilian Mailed Knights, with their new kite shields.

I redid the Sicilian kite shields and mailed knight unitcards, the vanilla versions really bugged me.

Not sure, I found the shields on replica armour site. They were listed as "Norman Shields".

Since the snakes seem to have something like legs, maybe they are dragons?

I guess you are pretty right. As the Normans are the descendants of the Vikings, which used a lot of those replica like dragons, it is also plausible to have them for the merely early era (still some heathens ) units, which have their roots in the Norman tradition.

I think they are dragons. Three or four of the shields have dragons on them.

I also did new shields for the Sicilian non-nobles (ie. Sergeant), they are all leather covered with the reinforced bands like a cross with an X. The early Sicilian are going to look very different.

    [EDIT]

The last of the Byzantine shields in that pic have been replaced by Norman shileds as well.

Dragons aren't heathen symbols exclusively. As I recall, they were among the most popular heraldic symbols in Germany or England. But I might be wrong.
    Let's ask Konstantin. ;-)

Ho Mega Therion - the great beast - the great dragon

Dragons appear in almost every cultural enviroment and it is supposed to be insipred by finding the skeletons of dinosaurs.
I can name only a few examples for the sake of brevity.

    "Long" chinese, japanic.
    "Mang-gon" thai and laotic.
    "Zmey, Zmja" serbian und croatic.
    "Tatzelwurm" in the alpine region.
    "Lindwurm" in northern germany
    "Wyvern" north european
    "Knucker" south english

It is mentioned in the legend of Baal fighting against the ocean, in (astonishing in a quite similar style) the fight of Tiamat against Marduk, Zeus versus Typhon, and Thor against Jormungandr, the story of Krak, the founder of Kracow against Wawel, multiple slavic fairy tales, in Babylon, where the wise dragon Tannin was poisoned, in Iran, where a dragon was supposed to be chained at a mountain side (compare the Prometheus-saga), in the Arthus-saga, where an evil and a good dragon are mentioned and finally in the old testament in two forms, the Leviathan and the Behemoth.

Generally speaking it was a universal symbol, but it´s meaning changed over the times. If one sketches it very roughly asian, near east, pagan and celtic cultures at least showed dragons as ambivalent identities, that were capable of good and evil deeds, the monotheistic literature depicts them mainly as personification of the evil/devil, maybe in an effort to defame prominent symbols of the religions that they wanted to replace. Saint George, the most famous dragon-slayer of christianity is a good example. Even in Dante Alighieri´s "La comedia divina" Satan is shown as a human-like creature, with a three faced head, one of them dragon-like and in the third circle of hell, cerberus is likewise called "the great dragon". For the matter at hand, the heraldry of knights living in an age, when pagan ways still coexisted with the monotheistic religions, i consider it as fitting.

Wow great shields SV. I've been wanting to try this mod out as Davinci pointed to it as " ChivhTW's MTW2 successor". So I'm hoping his statement wasn't unfounded!

My only problem with the Mailed Knights ATM is that they should be wearing Helmets.(Norman/Norse style preferably)I know CA designed the vanilla textures without helmets but Burrek worked around that maybe you can too! Also, could you possibly give the English knights a similer tune-up sometime? And possibly give them Norman Knights like Sicily has?(I know this has been asked for dozens of times but it's a good point)
