Default 0.81a CTD fixes you should try out before posting (includes 0.81a V2!)

The temporary fixes should be 100% compatible with both 0.81a and 0.81a V2.

Very many of the CTDs occurring in the current build will be eliminated by applying the fixes we've already discovered. If you have 0.81a, install 0.81a v2 now. This applies even if you don't have a problem right now! The 0.81a V2 patch is savegame compatible and will do no damage. Install all the permanent fixes for 0.81a V2 too, even if you don't have a problem right now! When the instructions say to unpack files, you can use 7-zip, which is free.

If your game still crashes with 0.81a v2, please try more than once as some crashes happen as flukes, never to return. These flukes are impossible to investigate, so only post a report if the crash is persistent (or happens very often spread over some turns).

The temporary fixes will disable varying degrees of functionality and should therefore only be used to get past a persistent crash. Even if installing a temporary fix gets you past the problem, we still want you to post the savegame before the persistent crash, to help us find permanent, non-gamebreaking fixes. Try all the temporary fixes before posting. When you do post, make sure to answer the questions found here.

    Permanent fixes for 0.81a V2:
    • Traits file typo fix
      • Updated 2007-06-11
      • The fix will overwrite export_descr_character_traits.txt, you may want to make a backup first.
      • If you're still using 0.81a for some odd reason, you need to install 0.81a v2 first.
      • Download this file from Rapidshare or Axifile.
      • Unpack into <RTW directory>/EB/data.

Permanent fixes for 0.81a (contained in 0.81a V2):
    • Improved rebel city CTD fix
      • Updated 2007-04-10.
      • The fix will overwrite export_descr_buildings.txt, you may want to make a backup first.
      • Download this file.
      • Unpack into <RTW directory>.
      • Delete <RTW directory>/EB/data/world/maps/base/map.rwm. It will be regenerated when you next start the game. Our experience is that your campaign savegame may be "tainted" by the old file though. Starting a new campaign after installing this fix will mean the best stability, but you will likely be able to play on in your existing one without problems.

    • Script and traits typo corrections
      • Updated 2007-04-01
      • The fix will overwrite export_descr_character_traits.txt, scripts/show_me/EBBS_SCRIPT.txt and world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/CAMPAIGN_SCRIPT.txt, you may want to make a backup first.
      • Download this file.
      • Unpack into <RTW directory>/EB/data.

    • Tuat Celtiberian alliance script fix
      • Updated 2007-04-01
      • The fix will overwrite EBBS_SCRIPT.txt, you may want to make a backup first. It contains the typo fixes for this file as well, but not the rest.
      • Download this file.
      • Unpack into <RTW directory>/EB/data/scripts/show_me.

Temporary fixes (applies to 0.81a AND 0.81a V2):
    • Broader rebellion CTD fix
      • Updated 2007-05-03, description updated 2007-05-20
      • The improved rebellion CTD fix in 0.81a v2 does not fix all instances. This one should work for those other instances, but will give an unfortunate broader recruitment zone for some lowlevel units in palaces and may have other inconsistencies with the usual 0.81a recruitment. You may choose to use this as a permanent fix if you think the altered recruitment is less annoying than occasional crashes. Also note that using this may decrease stability somewhat as different map.rwms will have been used throughout, but then again your game isn't very stable right now, is it...
      • Make a backup by copying <RTW directory>/EB/data/export_descr_buildings.txt to export_descr_buildings.txt.original.
      • Download this file.
      • Store the archive inside <RTW directory>.
      • Use the fix as needed:
        • Unpack "CTD fix for EB v0.81.rar". It will overwrite EB/Data/export_descr_buildings.txt.
        • Delete <RTW directory>/EB/data/world/maps/base/map.rwm. It will be regenerated when you next start the game.
        • Run the game to get past the crash.
        • Restore the original EDB by copying export_descr_buildings.txt.original to export_descr_buildings.txt.
        • Delete <RTW directory>/EB/data/world/maps/base/map.rwm. It will be regenerated when you next start the game.

    • Oasis CTD
      • Updated 2007-04-01
      • Only some people are having problems with the oasis. If you find that this is the solution in your case, you should keep it installed. Otherwise, treat it as a temporary troubleshooting thing (you want the oasis, right?).
      • Make a backup by copying <RTW directory>/EB/data/descr_settlement_plan.txt to descr_settlement_plan.txt.original.
      • Download this file.
      • Store the archive inside <RTW directory>/EB/data.
      • Use the fix as needed:
        • Unpack descr_settlement_plan.rar. It will overwrite descr_settlement_plan.txt.
        • Run the game to get past the crash.
        • Restore the original plan file by copying descr_settlement_plan.txt.original to descr_settlement_plan.txt.

    • Trait file nerf
      • Updated 2007-03-29
      • Make a backup by copying <RTW directory>/EB/data/export_descr_character_traits.txt to export_descr_character_traits.txt.original.
      • Download this file.
      • Unpack into <RTW directory>/EB/data.
      • Use the fix as needed:
        • Unpack edct_notriggers.rar. It will overwrite export_descr_character_traits.txt.
        • Run the game to get past the crash.
        • Restore the original trait file by copying export_descr_character_traits.txt.original to export_descr_character_traits.txt.

Isn't it time to unstick this and replace it with the 1.0 fixes?
