    Default Raiding parties

Am a big fan of raiding my enemies cities, destroying all then leaveing. Uptill recently the cities would revolt back to their former owners, however, later in the game they revolt to roman rebel cities! Can i expect this to happen all the time from now on? If so will make raiding parties interesting.
ps do the roman rebels act like an faction ? ie expand and so forth?

If you are playing by houserules, doing such raids is a very bad idea. You may just as well take the city and hold it, than take it and then take it again. It's very hard and costly to take a city in SPQR.

And never simply occupy a city. Enslave or kill the population and get those foreign buildings demolished ASAP, that will reduce the chances of the population rebelling.

The rebels do act like a faction but they generally just mill around their provinces. They generally don't cause any trouble, for me anyway unless you attack them first. And yes they will revert to Rebels as you progessively romanise a city. Personally I think sometimes taking them on is easier than refighting the host nation.

It is an exploit though, to take a city on the border with someone, and let it rebel to form a buffer or wall between you and the enemy.

It is to the extent that it would hopefully weaken your enemy in that province, but with the nature of SPQR, such a tactic could only be used in the short term as the AI would quickly produce an army capable of smashing the rebels.

Personally I prefer to grab the city and rely on my garrison to withstand the enemy until they attack or until a legion can come to the rescue. I always heavily garrison my frontier cities, often having a garrison ready to march into the place behind the legion, offering instant law enforcement and a powerful defence force.

I also always try to have a legion within a turns distance of the frontier.

In my previous game the roman rebels helped me a lot. During the initial turns the northenmost city, Genua, rebelled. I decided to go after Carthage first before going north or east. So aside from keeping a legion near Arminium (to hold off the Gaul incursions) I pretty much left Northern Italy alone.

After taking Western Africa I decided to raise more legions for a campaign in Gaul. Surprisingly, the Roman rebels took Mediolanum and Nicaea, and had an army near Massilia. The Gauls had a full stack in Patavium but will soon fall from the Macedonians from the East. Still, its because of the rebels that the northen border was safe from the barbarians.

This is not my experience. As far as I see, the AI doesn't attack the roman rebels. Perhaps they were at peace..
But in one game I had several roman rebel cities on my borders with other factions, and they protected me. Also it makes the AI build ROMAN buildings for you, and develop the cities without your work. It's kind of cheating.

And taking a city has horrendous lossses anyway, against romans the losses would be alot worse.
I try to make all my generals happy, but with a full legion so if they do rebell, they get there entire legion.
And my family members seem to be happy enough goveners at the moment, though once I start getting far away...
