Default XGM - Diadochi discussions and announcements

Alright, the public Beta you've all been waiting for (or not) is finally here for you to test out.
It uses a different folder than XGM, so don't be afraid about overwriting the original XGM folder.
I hope this release gives at least a slight glimpse of what this will look like when it reaches the v1.0 status.

Warning: You need Rome - Total War: Barbarian Invasion to play this mod

-) You don't need the original XGM to play this mod

You can download the Main installer from the downloads thread:
    >>>>>DOWNLOAD BETA<<<<<
The main download is about 275 mb, when installed it's slightly over 800 mb
NB! - Also Check for any new Updates!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
The unit system is pretty much unbalanced right now. For best experience, test out with Macedon and Rome, the whole system is based around Roman-Greek units. Unfortunately not all units have their proper unitcards

The factions haven't changed much from the original XGM, but the new factions are as follows:

    - Kingdom of Epirus
    - Getai (dacia)
    - Arverni (gauls)
    - Kingdom of Pergamon
    - The Achaean League
    - Independent Greek City States

If you love barbarians, then I strongly suggest playing with the Dacians, they have a very broad selection of units, which gives for a very savage pillaging/looting/burning experience.

If you have time and feel like trying this mod, then be so nice and report all the bugs you find in the XGM - Diadochi Bugs & Issues thread, which will be up shortly. This is, overall, the main purpose of this release - finding bugs and testing how much it sucks or doesn't suck.

Cheers and I hope you like this "little" Addon for XGM.

Good work mate! just a question - does it overwrite XGM or vanilla RTW files? to know where to install it..

It doesn't really change anything if you install and then uninstall, only 2 folders are changed in the data folder, but they get restored if you uninstall.
These include slightly bigger blending maps and the "remove 'playground' marker" option.
By the way, if you read the first post, then it clearly states it doesn't overwrite the XGM folder... I think I should bold it out.

Thank you, i've read the OP, but some time ago you said that your files override some of the vanila RTW files, so i decided to ask to be sure. BTW for some reason the download was corrupted, but i'm too tired to try again tonight

I'm less than 4 mins. away from completing the download (over 2 hours so far!) so, fingers crossed, I'll fly this baby tonight.

    Update

Well, the download went fine and I loaded it onto a copy of BI that's already running XGM 5.1.2. and both seem to be co-existing without problems. I'm playing Macedon on M/M, getting used to the changed tech-tree and am loving the aggressive AI, which is giving me a hard time. I'm about 6 turns in at the moment, so it's early days, but there are no glitches or CTD's to report at the moment. I like the music; I think I've identified pieces from Gladiator and Alexander blending in nicely with the RTW vanilla stuff.

    Nice one guys - I'm well-impressed.

Congratulations on getting the beta out RedFox. It's just a pity I'll have to wait a month to play it. I'm looking forward to trying it out though.

God damn, I knew I should've removed the CRC Check, this is an annoying error with the NSIS installers. I figure the best solution is to:
    a) Download it from a friends computer and burn it on a cd
    b) Google for NSIS CRC Check errors, I know this is a very common error and there was a solution for this

I think I've identified pieces from Gladiator and Alexander blending in nicely with the RTW vanilla stuff.
    There are others

You should try Battle of River Trebia and Battle of Lake Trasimene, those are my favourites so far, really epic. Other than that, Raphia is quite good too, around 4300 men in that battle, so I hope you got fairly good machines...

It's just a pity I'll have to wait a month to play it.
So long? I wonder what might be keeping you back...

I'm out of town for a month with nothing but a laptop that isn't quite up to running RTW. I'm already suffering withdrawal symptoms.

Vacations could be almost a nuisance when a new mod is out, but just almost
Will try the other way to download in two weeks

Thanks! Really good that some people actually enjoy this mod.
Though I also hope to hear about things that don't really appeal to public that much, so that I could improve it for the next release.

    Alright, here's the hotfix:
    XGM-Diadochi_v0.8b_hotfix1.exe
It fixes the royal barracks problem and the onagers.

My laptop seems to play rome just fine, at least on the minimum settings....have you tried it DBH? The graphics suck, but you still get to play (although mine is 1.6 ghz, and only 4 months old, so I understand if yours is a little older)

To be honest, I'm just worried about the size. Isn't the original XGM only like 60 MB? Like I've said in the past, I'll have dial-up likely until I get my raise in october. I'll give it a try after this weekend, perhaps I'll download it while I sleep. Can't wait to play as Epirus though.

Anyways, w00tsticks for you, Redfox. Good work, buddy.

EDIT: Although trying to play battles with that damn laptop mouse square thingy (ya know, where you touch your finger on the square, and it moves the mouse, can't remember what it's really called right now) is really annoying. I can't zoom in without my mousewheel!! Thank goodness for my 2.8 gig desktop, I would be lost without you

You can try to use a download manager like net transport, it will take care of your download and resume it in case of connection problems...

That's not fun I figure, i've got 12MB and only get *****y when I have to download files more than 2GB, or from a crappy server that only gives 60kb down...

Well, I pay for the server and it's actually used to host more serious stuff (check www.wmwiki.com and then you might wanna try to look for Zarax in Microsoft website) but as I'm a student and I only have a part time job and a GF to provide for this is the best I can give, even though 20GB is quite good hosting space and allows for some other side projects (it will be shared with a few Jagged Alliance 2 mods pretty soon)...
