    Default Spoil-sport President!

TEHRAN, Iran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has rejected a proposal by Oscar-winning movie director Oliver Stone to make a film about him because Stone is part of the "Great Satan" cultural establishment, a semiofficial news agency reported.

"I sent a negative answer by Ahmadinejad to Oliver Stone," the Fars agency quoted Mehdi Kalhor, media adviser to the president, as saying Sunday. "It is right that this person is considered part of the opposition in the U.S., but opposition in the U.S. is a part of the Great Satan."

The term the "Great Satan" dates back to Iran's late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who first called the United States that after the 1979 Islamic Revolution overthrew the country's U.S.-supported shah.

Stone's publicist in New York said the director had not been formally notified that his proposal to make a documentary about Ahmadinejad had been turned down. But in a statement released Monday, Stone said he wished the Iranian people well.

"I have been called a lot of things, but never a great satan," Stone said in the statement. "I wish the Iranian people well, and only hope their experience with an inept, rigid ideologue president goes better than ours." Kalhor said Stone sent his proposal more than a year ago, but Iran decided against allowing him to make the film.

"We believe that the American cinema industry lacks culture and art," Kalhor was quoted as saying by Fars, which is considered close to Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard. Stone, who won best director Oscars for his movies "Born on the Fourth of July" and "Platoon" and a screenwriting Oscar for "Midnight Express," has made movies about former U.S. Presidents Nixon and Kennedy and a documentary about Cuban President Fidel Castro.

He has been critical of President Bush. Last year in Spain, he said he was "ashamed" of his country over the war in Iraq and U.S. policies in response to the terror attacks of Sept. 11.

One thing that stood out from that article was this:
    "a semiofficial news agency reported."[/b]
"Semi official" as in: "not official", as in: "some stupid blogger who doesn't know crap but likes to call himself a news agency although nobody takes him seriously"? - just wondering.

Anyways, something tells me Ahmedinejad won't be president of Iran for long enough to have a movie made (unless the movie is about his decline from politics)

It's sad that a man who is obviously educated and intelligent still falls back on old false ideologies. I would have thought a secular(at least, he doesn't come across as an Islamic fundamentalist, but perhaps he is) president would know better. That movie would have likely sucked anyway. Mr Stone, do a documentary on someone interesting, maybe then I'll watch it.

Ahmadinejad is just a mouth piece for the Islamic Extremists that run the country from the back. In recent months, Ahmadinejad has come under fire from his own country for touching a woman's hand.

ive also heard that his staff is also very uneasy about his negative stance towards the west also, and thinks he needs to be a lil more open.

My favourite factoid about Iran is that they're having to ration gasoline in a nation which is a huge net exporter of crude oil. That makes me laugh, and then choke, and then sob hysterically before finally curling up in a fetal position, and falling asleep sucking on my thumb. (it really happened)

I heard he drives a twenty year old beater still and lives in a modest house even though he's president...

He's a modest guy so ensconced in the Persian thing and having to deal with the radicals of his country, it's hard not to find him just a wee bit captivating.

Yes, Da Skinna, that's why he was elected. He grew up in a poor neighborhood and got elected mayor in a society where the rich and corrupt have always held power. He was elected President not because of his anti-West rhetoric (which came a long time after his election-win) but because of his perceived honestly and will to work hard.

I don't agree with a thing he says but you can't take away those qualities from him. I, for one, don't believe in demonizing those I disagree with.

However, this article was funny to me because of the "big satan, little satan" thing. I wonder when that's gonna end.

Kidnap him and leave him in Las Vegas with 72 of the dirtiest strippers around. Don't let him out of the casino, the tv only has FOX.

Why would anyone watch a movie about Ahmadinejad anyway since the has not been a major event involving him happened in the world.

It is not like he managed to lead his Persian Immortals to drive the Israelis into the sea or something. Even domestically even though he has good personality but Iran has not seen anything which he promised to do upon taking power.
