I remember only the good times...

Yesterday I was treated with Rememory the new drug by Roche pharmaceuticals. Now all bad memories are gone and I remember only the happy moments in my life. And because who we are is essentially who we remember to be, I am a new person as of today. No anxiety, no worry; if something bad happens, I'm only a pill away from true happiness. Again.


Maybe we are not there yet but surely we are well on the way:

Scientists believe they have found a way to dampen down the impact of bad memories in people's brains. A US and Canadian team used a drug called propranolol to target unwanted memories, while leaving others intact. They injected the drug, which is more often used to treat heart patients, while a volunteer was asked to recall a painful memory. The Journal of Psychiatric Research study found that this seemed to disrupt the way the memory was then stored.

In a separate study, a New York University team said they had successfully erased a single memory from the brains of rats while leaving the rest of their memory intact.

I wouldn't touch that stuff with a 10-foot barge pole. What meaning is there to life if the full "you" is not present? The lessons you learnt from bad experiences - would they disappear and would you be destined to repeat them?

I'd rather be me (with my bad memories - and I have quite a few), than half of me.

well that sounds like a perfect idea where nothing could possibly go wrong and it could never be misused...

although it would be very useful for people with severe traumatic memories like child abuse or gws

I agree, bad memories is what keeps you from making the same mistakes twice. Granted, most of us have a memory or two that we wish we didn't have, but those memories have shaped how we've developed as a person and made us into us.

Personally I refuse to regret anything. First, it makes me think; if I do it will I regret it? If so I don't do it. Secondly, anything I've experienced has made me who I am today, therefore it's been a positive thing, even though it might have seemed damn negative at the time!
