Recently the built-in speakers in my laptop stopped working. I couldn’t say exactly when this happened, as I usually plug in exterior speakers for sound (plugged in sound devices work just fine). I went to the Dell website (the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6400), and downloaded an update for the sound drivers. That seemed to fix the problem, but on the very next start-up the sound was gone again. This doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue, as indicated by the temporary repair by the update. Having the built-in speakers work isn’t crucial, as I normally use my others, but it would be nice to have them working again.

Any thoughts?
