    Icon1 the edited descriptions thread

this thread spawned from something in the main thread, its goal is to edit unit and campaign descriptions to make them clearer or more intressting

why? because its the only thing CAE is lacking

    Holy Roman Empires new units:

"{Imperial_Longbowmen_descr} The lack of competent archers within the Imperial army had led the Kaisers to find an effective solution. It was obvious that the English fielded the best archers in medieval times. In the light of the researchs about the reason for this, military advisors of the Kaiser pointed out the reason for this laid in the type of the bow that the English used,so basically the Empire's military supervisors copied the "longbowmen" troops of the English and tried to adept it to their own army. These men are lend to some important allies or proctrates of the Empire, naturally the Teutonic Order is the first and most respected among them. From time to time at great expense and by the Holy Roman emperor's grace and favour Imperial longbowmen were lent to the Order, serving them for a period of time.
{Imperial_Longbowmen_descr_short} Although not being as sharp marksman as their English counterparts, and not equally trained these archers will give quite a trouble to their adversaries when they take the field.Like the English longbowmen these men are also able to deploy stakes for defense against heavy cavalry charges."

"The lack of capable archers within the empire has forced the kaiser to either hire mercinaries, which can get expensive, or discover why the English and Welsh archers are so effective and train his archers like them. It was discovered that the English archers ability lay in the type of bow and the arrow's they used, still a self-bow, but made of yew and much larger than average, and using a bodkin point arrow head, to give superior armour penetration. The Military supevisors of the empire had some of these longbows made, and copied english training methods, the result, whilst not as impressive as english longbowmen, is still a very effective corps of archers who can copy the english method of deploying stakes to ward off cavalry.
From time to time, units of these men are lend to important allies and vassals of the empire with the empire still paying for them, cheif amongst these allies is the tuetonic order, providing an order which relies on its heavy infantry and cavalry with a way of skirmishing, opening up more options to Tueton(ic) commanders."

short "Imperial Longbowmen arn't quite as effective or accurite as their english counterparts, but try telling that to the enemy knights who if on foot can be decimated by their constant barrages. These men also borrow the ability to deploy stakes from the english longbowmen."

Dragon_Knights_descr} The Order of the Dragon's Knights are neither commoners nor nobles. They all represents the royal bloodlines of their Kingdoms, highest edge of their own society, the utmost top of social hierarchy.Eachone of them are Kings, some among them are Princes like Vlad Dracula , that is in their own lands are seen as Kings. And one of them is an Emperor, the founder of the Order,Emperor Sigismund.Wealth being out of question,no other knights can afford the "adamentium plate" of the Dragon Knights nor they can afford the golden-bronze mixture armour of their horses. As being seen as grown up men even from their childhoods;these rulers are well-versed in the Knighthood as well as combating, dueling and jousting.Their horses are of the finest breed, also trained especially for war and quite accustomed to the noises of war even the ancient sarissas of the ancient macedonians cannot frighten these mighty steeds nor will a camel..Although Dragon Knights rarely take the field, when they do weaker units will disappear at the whisper of their coming, especially the infantry...
{Dragon_Knights_descr_short} With superb armour, excellent horses and a unit made up of Kings blessed with wealth and power Dragon Knights are the masters of all cavalry,They will fight honourably and rather die than to be captured by foes that dream of earning their immense ransom..

The order of the Dragon Knights was founded by the emperor Sigismund in 1408. Those choson to join the order were at the very top of the feudal heirarchy, each man a king, or equivalant to a king, in the lands he ruled. Because of this, these men can afford the absolute best of everything, including adamentium plate armour, and a gold-bronze armour mixture for their mounts, who are, of course, the finest horses in all of europe, trained and conditioned for war, so they are fearless in battle and will stand and charge against any foe.
For their symbol, the Order designed an insignia of a dragon with its tail coiled around its neck; on the back of the dragon, from the base of the neck to the tail, is the Red Cross of Saint George, with the entire image on an argent field. The dragon represented The Scarlet Beast of the Book of Revelation while the red cross represented the victory of Christ over the forces of evil. Members were required to wear the symbol (often as a medallion) at all times and were often buried with the symbol.
The men themselves have been trained since childhood in jousting, Duelling and combat. Thanks to all this, they are the absolute masters of all cavalry and untrained units will falter at any hint that these fearsome knights will take to the feild against them.

short: Each man a king, Dragon knights, they are truly fearless and can easily cut through inferior units, which, just so happens to be most units. Dont throw them away lightly though, as any enemy who manages to capture one can expect to live comftably of the randsom for life, they are the masters of all heavy cavalry though and will fight to the death in any situation

Sounds better Jebus..Dragon Knights description to be extended is nice too.As far as I know Tueton should be written as Teuton. Also just keep in mind that you transfer/correct the original descriptions as best as you can and please do not leave out any original description parts in your modified version.
    Good work indeed.
    Shine on you crazy diamond...

Default Re: the edited descriptions thread

I've been doing a few units a day between work and eating and have finished the teutonic order, bear in mind I wrote it on notepad with my stomarch growling, so the spelling will suck.. but everything else is correct
(I couldn't find peasant spearmen, teutonic crusaders or drobyva (spelling is deffinaintly wrong on that) lancers, but I figured, missing 3 units out of how many new and unique ones?

Overall I've tried to go for a more devout feel than other factions (except maybe KoJ) should have, to truly give the impression of fighting for god, or at least paying lip service to that ideal....

"{Dismounted_German_Knights_descr} As the impact that the Teutonic Order had made upon the Christian and Muslim factions grew,it's fame began to attract the attention of some German knights within the Holy Roman Empire. Most of these had lands and titles, yet some of them were at odds with the Kaiser or with the princess of the freecities.Undoubtedly, having an adventurous heart those men joined the Order in search of fame and power. They are called "German Knights" within the order and their ferocity make some Teutonic Knights think twice before they think any move against them because of their Imperial origin."

edited long "Due to the impact the Teutonic Order had upon the "infadels" during the crusades, they became widely regarded as feirce and noble fighters, braver and more daring even than most knights, thus, many knights joined the order seeking fame and adventure, these knights are from the german part of the holy roman empire, made up primaraly of those who don't like the current kaiser. Due to these knights maintaining their Imperial lands and titles, the leaders of the tuetonic order are forced to think carefully before making any more which could upset the empire, and individual tuetonic knights are especally careful about not insulting the honour of these men for simmilar reasons. In battle, their feuriosity is almost a match for the tuetonic knights, even when dismounted."

Dismounted_German_Knights_descr_short} Altough as not as effective when being mounted, these Knights act as the Order's ironfist when need be,also they are of the finest breed of soldiers that is versatile in combat.

edited Versitile heavy infantry, easily capable of taking the battle to enemies of the order and winning, even when dismounted, though, they arn't quite the equal of true tuetonic knights

    {Dismounted_NE_Bodyguard} Hochmeister's Retinue
{Dismounted_NE_Bodyguard_descr} Most of the Grandmasters of the mighty Teutonic Order at many times depended on their elite knights:"Hochmeister's Retinue", these knights are hugely experienced in the art of warfare, often among their ranks the kinsmen of the Grandmaster are present, their mettle in the battle had been tested countless times, they are always ready to crush the enemies of the Order.

edited The Hochmeister's Retinue is made up of the finest and boldest knights within the tuetonic order, the grandmasters kinsmen are also present, the sole reason these men live is to serve the order and the grandmaster on the feild of battle, each man is a veteran of countless battles (both mock tourney's and actual battles) who has tested his metal countless times. They always stand ready to crush those who dare to oppose the will of god and the order

Dismounted_NE_Bodyguard_descr_short} Heavily armored with the finest full plates, the most skillfull German blacksmitsh could forge and well equipped with broadswords and a buckler these elite troops have the task of protecting and fighting alongside the Grandmaster, following him towhatever end.

edited Encased in the finest armour made the the most skillful imperial blacksmiths, each man is a veteran of countless battles and together they are tasked with protecting the hockmeister to whatever end god wills.

Dismounted_Teutonig_Knights_descr} Sometimes in battles Teutonic Knights fought on foot ,they are the proud knights representing their Order and even without their horses they are dangerous and fear instilling.Without their horses and unable to trample the enemy, they will trample the enemy with their heavy armour and anything else that barres their way, sometimes even themselves.

edited Even the Tuetonic knights knew that sometimes, to do gods will, you have to dismount and hack his enemies to peices on foot instead, even without their steed's, they strike fear into the hearts of their opponants and are brutally effective in melee. Their eagerness to get into battle means that sometimes these knights have had to unceremoniously walk over their fallen or wounded comrades

Dismounted_Teutonig_Knights_descr_short} Protected by partial plate armour and equipped with their traditional maces Teutonic Knights make tough and perfect infantry when fighting dismounted.

edited When fighting dismounted, tuetonic knights weild maces so as to not spill blood, they are tough heavy infantry, well able to put inferior units to flight.

English_Huscarls_descr} Perphaps There isn't a single other infanty unit within the armies of the Christendom, that corresponds to such a unique mixture like the Teutonic Heavy Infantry. They are composed of hardy-warriors that mostly of the Germanic bloodline;some of them are outlaws, some professional soldiers and some are crusade veterans. They are trained by the Landmeister's council members to ensure their effectiveness in battle. These claymore- wielding Teutonic soldiers are an elite body of the Order, they are quite formidable and steadfast.Loyal to Grandmasters, they act as shock troops.Armed with a two-handed claymore and mail they present stiff opposition to all who would dare to assault the Orders Castles and Lands.

edited Bloodthirsthy bunch of claymore weilding psychopaths or Fearsome, imposibly brave and noble warriors doing the work of god? opinion is divided on the matter (mainly by whether the man with the opinion is fighting with or against them), In any case, Tuetonic heavy infantry are made up of a varied bunch, some being crusader veterans, some being professional soilders, others being outlaws, these men are then trained by the Landmeister's council members to ensure their effectiveness in battle aswell as their loyalty. To say the least, they are formidable and steadfast, and often serve as shock troops, in almost any situation, these men's skill-at-arms presents a rather annoying problem for armies who dare to oppose the order.

English_Huscarls_descr_short} Formidable Teutonic warriors armed with two-handed Claymores and protected by mail armour.
...I actually like that one, but would add "protected by heavy mail at least"

{German_Knights_descr} These are knights from the Holy Roman Empire,They have decided to join the Order for various reasons. They have lands in the Empire as well as in the Teutonic Lands. As the majority of the Order is made up of Germans these men have consodilated their position within The Teutonic society.Wearing masterwork plates and wielding quality swords and lances when they charge the very Earth itself trembles. They are the heaviest and most disciplined cavalry in the roster of the Teutonic army.

edited Copy dismounted, only add "wielding quality swords and lances when they charge the very Earth itself trembles. They are the heaviest and most disciplined cavalry in the Teutonic order. "

{German_Knights_descr_short} Protected by plate armour and equipped with maces, these knights excel at taking on heavily armoured units, will break all that stands in their path.

edited contradiction? swords or maces? either way "Plate armour protects both horse and rider, these knights cause the very ground they ride on to tremble with fear when they charge"

Mercenary_German_Crossbowmen_descr} The fame of the Order was also at its height when it was at the height of its influence and power. The Order commanded a mighty host of its finest knights, led by courageous and iron-willed "komturs".Despite this fact, there were always times that extra help was needed in times of war,in such cases The Order enlisted the help of mercenaries mostly from Germanic regions such as Sachsen,Bavaria. These were valuable mercenaries,a banner of them worthy of half the ransom of a Teutonic Knight. And they are expected to do worthy service and deserve their high cost.

edited During times of war, the order found itself without any really effective missile units. To remedy this, the order enlisted the help of German mercenary's, mainly from the provinces of Sachsen and Bavaria. They are mainly from the middle classes and can afford good quality war gear, including plate armour, allowing these men to enter melee and give a good account of themselves. A banner of these men was historically worth half the random of a tuetonic knight, and they can be relied upon to proove themselves worthy of this high price.

{Mercenary_German_Crossbowmen_descr_short}In the service of the Order for certain periods of time, these are battle-hardened mercenaries that wield quality crossbows, some are wealthy enough to afford even partial plate armour, they use swords when the battle is heated, and when they enter the melee, too.

edited Recruited during wartime to fufill the orders lack of any crossbow equipped troops, these man can give a good account of themselves either whilst skirmishing or in melee.

Prussian_Retainers_descr} The Prussian retainers are a collective of Prussians that are forced to do service in Teutonic Order's army. Some of them are knighted but a vast expense are the retinues and squires of the Order's knights.Still a commander who will not take them seriously will make a grave mistake for they are personally trained by their masters and in nature prussians are fierce warriors and also good pupil in the art of warfare. They are used to break enemy formations and protect the Teutonic Knights in battle.

edited Prussian are natrual warriors, feirce and well able to learn from any mistakes. Both man and horse are equipped with Brigandine armour and they are trained by their tuetonic masters, although by no means equal to tuetonic knights they should not be underestimated. In battle, they make reliable medium cavalry, ofter tasked with protecting the tuetonic knights and breaking formations of lighter troops.

{Prussian_Retainers_descr_short} These retainers mount fine horses and wear heavy brigandine armour, equipped with lances and swords from their benefactors, they are reliable and will not falter in the face of danger.

edited Prussian retainers are reliable and versitile medium cavalry that will not falter.

    {Prussian_Spearmen} Prussian Spearmen
{Prussian_Spearmen_descr} Prussians are worldy known for their stubborn ways of never yielding to any foreign power. However it seems that the Teutonic Order is a fine an exception to this. Finally having been conquered by the Order, main body of the Prussian army which consisted of spearmen are now an important factor in the Teutonic army as well. These well-drilled,battle hardened troops make excellent spearmen.Mostly they are charged with garrisoning the impressing castles and fortresses of the Order. They will hardly tire of swinging their spears since they have superb stamina.

edited Prussians are famous for their stubborn refusal to yeild to any foreign power, however, it seams the tuetonic order are an exception to this. Before being conquered by the order, the main body of the prussian army consisted of well-drilled spearmen, now, these men form an important part of tuetonic armies as well. They were most often used to garrison the imposing/impressive fortresses of the order. Due to their training, they have excellent stamina and wont tire as quickly as other troops within the order

{Prussian_Spearmen_descr_short} These men carry spears with them and are protected by heavy mail, also their helmets provide decent protection from enemy weapons.

edited Well-protected and well-drilled spearmen with excellent stamina hailing from Prussia

    {Teutonic_Bodyguard} Teutonic Bodyguard
{Teutonic_Bodyguard_descr} These are the Order's Knights that are assingned with a heavy duty of protecting the distinguishing,high-ranking members of the Teutonic Order. They are diligent in their task, and accompany the general or the family member on the battlefield to make sure no harm will come to him.

edited These knights have been tasked with protecting one of the orders higher ranking members. On the battlefeild, like most tuetonic knights, they serve as heavy cavalry and can protect the man they are tasked to in most situations.

{Teutonic_Bodyguard_descr_short} Fierce and powerful,well-trained Teutonic Knights protected by heavy mail or partial plate armours, armed with sharp swords and lances, they are worthy of their tasks.

Knights that have been tasked with protecting one of the high ranking officers within the order. They serve as heavy cavalry.

    {Teutonic_City_Guard}Teutonic City Guard
{Teutonic_City_Guard_descr}These troops are wealthier townsfolk given better training and superior equipment and some basic training, and they are expected to protect the cities when the time comes.

edited These troops are composed of the wealthier townsfolk, given superior training and better equipment to most militia's. They can be relied upon to protect their cities if it comes to that.

{Teutonic_City_Guard_descr_short}Equipment of these city guards are truly impressive. They wear either heavy mail or partial plate which gives them good protection. They have large tower shields and spears.

edited Well protected spearmen that can be expected to hold their ground where other militia's would break and flee, they are the last line of defense for tuetonic cities.

    {Teutonic_Nobles} Teutonic Nobles
{Teutonic_Nobles_descr} After the steady decline that had started with the Defeat at Tannenberg against Poland,Grandmasters began to consider the reasons for the weakening of the military might of the Order. The main reason lied that Teutonics had failed to establish professional armies such as the Holy Roman empire,France and England. So in the light of this a unit of Teutonic nobles that included the Duke of Prussia was formed. These nobles had given up their traditional maces that they use for war and instead, wielded the long spears.Their discipline and experience of war excell their professional soldier counterparts,Teutonic Nobles are make perfect spearmen.

edited After the defeat of the order at Tannenberg, grandmasters looked for a reason why it happened, their conclusion was that the tuetonic order did not employ professional armies like those employed by England and France, in light of this, a unit of noblemen within the order were trained to weild long spears instead of their traditional maces. Thanks to their previous experience of warfare, these men are, if anything, more effective than most professional soilder and make formidable spearmen.

{Teutonic_Nobles_descr_short} Wielding very long spears and having superb armor, perfectly drilled and disciplined those nobles are capable against any kind of cavalry.

edited Disiplined and well equipped spearmen that are, if anything, more effective than most professional troops.

    {Teutonic_Raiders} Teutonic Raiders
{Teutonic_Raiders_descr} When the Order was efficient in the holy lands, there were certain circumstances like pillaging and raiding the Saracen caravans for further fortifying and enhancing the Order's wealth.Unfortunately, there were times that a peace treaty between the Latin Kingdom and the Muslims at those times raiding caravans or pillaging was strictly prohibited by the King of Jerusalem thus incapacitating the Orders such as Hospitaller,Templar. The Teutonic Order was no exception to that.So they have recruited and trained some locals mostly arabs that converted to Christianity to do this work incognito. Some knights even raided the caravans in this fashing taking off their Teutonic surcoats and being claded in heavy eastern mail they pillaged and burnt along with arabs. When the Crusades were nearing to their ends these troops weren't disbanded they returned to Europe with the Teutonics and were used there as raiders, and night fighters.

edited When the Order was fighting in the holy land, a significant portion of its wealth came from raiding saracen caravans. However, during times of peace it was strictly prohibited for any order to do this, so tuetonic knights trained arabs that had converted to christianity in how to do this but equipped them as classic middle eastern heavy cavalry to rain the caravans without it being possible to blame the tuetonic knights, ensuring the orders wealth. Some knights even joined in with this activity, swapping their surcoats for eastern mail armour. When the order returned to europe, units such as this were not disbanded but instead used to raiders and night fighters by the order.

{Teutonic_Raiders_descr_short} These men have decent equipment and are armed with lances.

edited Raiders that are more heavaly equipped than most other troops that have a simmilar raiding role, they are excellent night fighters

    {Theigns} StangeMänner
{Theigns_descr} Teutonic Spearmen were mostly Germanic freemen who own land of some substance. After certain encounters with the Teutonic Order, they offered their services to the Order they were trained by the Teutonic Knights as professional soldiers although lacking the true skills of a Teutonic Knight they own mail and shield, these also come equipped with a short spear for combat. Loyal to the Grandmaster these men are competent enough to hold their grounds.

edited StangeManner are mostly german freemen who own lands of some substance that have offered their services to the order. Trained by the order as spearmen and rich enough to afford mail, these men can be expected to hold their ground where poorer troops may run but they will route if the situation looks hopeless.

{Theigns_descr_short} A careful commander should not depend heavily on them during the situations that are desperate.

edited StangeManner are fairly effective light spearmen, composed from the richer peasantry.

IMPERIAL_CAMPAIGN_SAXONS_DESCR} The order was founded in Acre during the Holy Crusades at the time nearing the end of the bloody 12th century,in the year 1190.Teutonic Knights wore a suit of white surcoats with a black cross. The order was originally a germanic military crusader order the counterpart of the Templars and Hospitallers they proved their prowess in battle against the "infidels of the East" as well as other minor and less powerful orders such as the Order of Dobrzyn,in Prussia. The versatile foes such as Cumans and Transylvanian Saxons were not sufficient to impede the unpreventable rise of the order.Teutonic Knights leaders were called "Hochmeister" which means Grandmaster they led the Teutonic Knights to glory in medieval times. Of course naturally, the Teutonic Order are pledged to serve the powerful Holy Roman Empire and seemingly all its Knights are the subjects of the Kaiser. However,It is a common fact that with power gained the loyalty becomes fragile, and with the construction of mighty castles and fortresses, having gained a considerable wealth during the Crusades, also boasting a remarkable army the Order's allegiances will not hold forever in the favor of the Kaiser. Yet all is not so well for the ruthless Teutonics. In the East of their borders the infant Kingdom of Poland will assuredly grow to become a solid Kingdom in no time, under the ironfisted rule of their Kings Wladyslaus. The fact that the fierce Lithuanians, ancient nemesises of the order are now within the military roster of Poland. Also,The Holy Roman Empire is irritated by the constant growing power of the Order, seeing the Order as a potential threat against the fragile and hardly-forged unity of the Empire may incline the Kaiser to move against the Order swiftly in order to make them submit truly,or wipe them off the Earth of Christendom. In such conditions for the Teutonic order to prevail It will take a great Grandmaster of unwavering will,a cruel solid rule to guide the Order through these turbulent times...

edited The tuetonic order was founded in Acre in 1190, their knights wore white surcoats with a black cross. The teutonic order was made up mostly of germans to counterpart the mostly french templars, mostly itallian hospitalars and mostly spanish knights of St. Tiago. This german order then proved its prowess in battles against the "infadels of the east". After the failure of the christian kingdoms in the holy land, the order left for europe, eventually conquering Prussia and ruling in its own lands. As most of the knights within the order were german, an alliance with the Holy Roman Empire seamed inevatable, and the order even gained use of some imperial troops through this allaince. Thanks to wealth gained in the holy land, the order can construct some truly imposing castles. Current circumstances are not good for the order, the flegeling kingdom's of Poland and Denmark is gaining strenght to the south-west and east respectivally, to the west and north west the Grand Duchy of Lithuania employs feirce horse archers that will surely cause problems for the order if they ever fought, to the south, the Kaiser domonates with his imperial authority, all of these may see the order as a target should it gain too much wealth in the region. The leader of the teutonic order is called a "hockmeister" or grandmaster in english, and it will take a truly skilled hockmeister to carve out a solid kingdom in these circumstances.......
