You know what? I think I have become an elitist. I absolutely refuse to watch mainstream American news anymore. With all the stuff going around in the world, I'm sick and tired of watching the same stories about a celebrity going to jail or some waterskiing squirrel.
I'm sick of America's "football politics" where both sides treat every single issue like it's a battle over a way of life. I still vote, but I don't care about American politics anymore. I think it has become the realm for people who don't have anything better to do.
I think American popular culture is a joke. I love baseball, and I enjoy the vulgar humor in Avenue Q and South Park, but I enjoy high culture as well. Americans have just put way too much emphasis on pop culture. I don't care if Bradjelina has split up!
Which brings me to my next point; I am absolutely disgusted at the anti-intellectualism in America. Although I can't say for certain, I have reason to believe that this new trend partly resulted from our leaders trying too hard to become more "folksy." Teddy Roosevelt won a Nobel prize and wrote a naval history book that is STILL used as a reliable source today. Kennedy won a Pulitzer. Jefferson could speak a number of languages and knew poetry. Now, idiots all across the country have an orgasm when they see the president in a flight suit.
I think I'll emigrate.
