Default 1 thing that really kills my fun in SPQR

is the number of armies that the enemy AI sends your way. There's a difference between making a mod challenging and making it tedious. to battle at least 5x or more for the same province initially(not to mention the endless stacks that the enemy sends afterwards) transcended challenging and is now just tedious. And when i realized that it's only the tip of the iceberg when viewing at the larger map it quickly turned me off from the game when i realized i'm going to have to go through this with every empire i run across.

Except for that, the mod is good.
If God were a man he'd be me.

At first i simply observed. But i found that without investment in others, life serves no purpose.

hmm, i would think it's only tedious if you keep pulling off overwhelming victories against those odds, or especially if you exploit the battle AI. (i say this having been guilty of the occasional corner-hill-camping myself )

Yerp... The hard thing i found is that the enemy is strong. I had to change to medium from hard, i couldn't establish myself on hard and still found it difficult on medium.

SPQR mod isnt for the casual RTW gamer or for people who LOVE the vanilla RTW style of gameplay. SPQR is for Hardcore tactical players that like a realistic and long battlefield experience while learning logistical and startegical choices while on campaign. While alot of Games like the one battle theory, the problem remains that many smaller engagements using thousands of men are still fought, yet in RTW you get those in 2-3 unit fights which is nothing. In SPQR while one battle lost wont cost you the war, it simulates Large Legions fighting is Small encounters and you can actually FEEL the setback of Losing an entire Legion. Whereas other mods treat full stack units as ARMIES, SPQR treats them just as Legions. So in SPQR you really can (and if feels right) to have 28 Legions (armies) in your empire. Because they are NOT armies but Legions. This is why One legion lost doesnt speel DOOM for the Empire just like in Rome the Loss of One legion wasnt great but it didnt end the world! lol

Now losing 3 legions on your german frontier and you can worry. lol Also Legions fought MANY engagements by themselves or with other legions, not just 1 pitched battle. That is why Rome became and empire, In ancient times most nations fought decisive battles, were Rome Attrition style. They would send in Wave after wave until they wore you down.

So SPQR in its design is Made for a player that likes a more Micromanaged Battle with Units fighting at a reasonable length to give the player time to act and to FEEL the MOMENT when the lines are about to break. You can do this at super speeds, and while its still a game and not totally realistic not be hours for battles its still long enough to give a realistic feel to the battle.

In SPQR tactics on the battlefield are More important than building a Super unit or Army like in RTW and some other mods. Balancing your army teaches the player like in real life WHY armies were not made up of ALL one type of unit. Also in Campaign SPQR teaches Logistics, what happen if you REACH OUT and take too much? You lose you empire. lol

Not many if any mods really focus on this issue, and it hard to do without alot of legions/armies to command. There is plenty of Money in SPQR if you logistically think of what areas are best for your campaign and how to support your war effort. In SPQR its harder to blitz like in other mods, though it still can happen its harder. If played with house Rules you get a Game experience unlike any other! Its more like playing a simulation at Westpoint than a game when teaching the FUNDIMENTALS of war and basic Campaigning. Sometimes having a correct ancient name isnt as important as HOW the game is played and is it realistic overall for a game.

So I hope you "consider this on the tree of woe", excuse me that was from another movie lol, I do hope you consider this if you play SPQR again. ;-)
