    Default Directx 10

It annoys me that you have to upgrade and spend a ridiculous amount of money for the overhyped vista in order to get Direct x 10. They could easily make a Direct X 10 for Windows XP but choose not to because they want you to pay $200 or more in order to get it installed. I dont want vista or any of its features aside from Direct x 10.

I used to not jump the hating MS bandwagon in the past but I think i'm going to have to join in on this one.

    dont get it?

you dont need dx10 to run vista, vista will run in dx9 you will just miss out on the some of the cool features.

pc games wont start being dx10 (apart from the odd promotional title) till about next year - so i would wait till then if i was you.

DX10 is not so revolutuinary advancement for gamers. MS use it as a oppression tool to force Win XP users for selling Vista. That's explains why they don't impelement it to XP.

Besides cunning way of MS one way or another we'll be forced to buy Vista but not now.

Developers are out to make money. To do so they have to appeal to the largest audience possible. Currently that lies with xp dx 9. It will be a long time (years) until dx 10 only games are mainstream.

No thats not what I mean, you NEED vista to use Direct x 10. There is no windows xp version of dx10.

That is what annoys me so much about it, games are going to start requiring DX10 so i'm going to be forced eventually to use vista when there is literally no other reason for me to buy it. Vista has no features that i'm attracted to.... I would still be using Windows 2000 instead of XP as well but i'm using a "special" version of XP that uses less ram. And yes I do own a copy i'm not pirating it. If I switch to vista I will go from only using 140mb of ram to about 1 gig just from the OS alone, why would I want to pay for vista only to literally lose ram?

Other direct x versions didn't take years to be adopted. This one only would because it requires vista i suppose.

Actually, there's an unofficial one in development. Remains to see how M$ will take it.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but the only people on these forums I've seen complaining about vista are those who don't use it.

It really isn't that bad...and if you would have troubles running Vista, you won't have enough ram for dx10 games anyway.

Other directx versions were incrementally backwards compatible. dx10 is a complete rewrite.

What would that be if I purchased VGA designed to work with X10 ,while running Win XP?
Most of the game I like feel good with Win XP ,some like Might and Magic 6-8 can be patched to run on Win XP.

It wasn't cost effective for Microsoft to update XP to handle dx10 as it would have taken a fair bit to get it to work. They chose to go Vista only and we'll see if they 'pay' for it later. In the meantime this is an interesting read...

Project aims to bring DX10 gaming to XP, Linux, OS X
