    Default Mod Idea

Hey guys, I have an idea for a mod, but I don't know how to work mod tools and all that stuff. But I was wondering if anyone was interested in hearing my idea?

It's a mod for MTW2, where all factions will be remade to be historically more accurate (if necessary) and several new factions will be added as well. There will also be a larger culture divide to add more realism and variety.

I have compiled a list of cultures and factions (along with their strengths and weaknesses).

    Northern Europe
    Kingdom of Scotland
(Excellent spear and melee troops, but lacks cavalry and gun technology)

    The Irish Kingdoms
(Good light infantry and missiles, but poor cavalry and notable gun technology)

    *Kingdom of Wales
    (Unknown)

    Kingdom of England
(Excellent bowmen and heavy infantry, but has little cavalry)

    **Kingdom of Denmark
(Great anti-armor troops and heavy infantry, but fields poor cavalry)

**Kingdom of Norway (aka The Vikings)
(Basically the same as Denmark lol)

    **Kingdom of Sweden
    (Unknown)

    *The Saxons
(Excellent melee troops, but lacks any other support, as well as professional troops)

    *The Angles
    (Unknown)

    Central Europe
    Holy Roman Empire
(Good all-around, but lacks specialized units)

Monastic State of the Teutonic Knights
(Fields good melee troops, but lacks any missile troops)

    Duchy of Burgundy
    (Unknown)

    *Swiss Confederacy
(Fields good infantry in general, but has poor cavalry)

Kingdom of Normandy (and foreign states)
(Good all-around units, but lacks any specialization and professional armies)

    Kingdom of France
(Fields great melee cavalry and professional armies, but lacks missile troops)

    Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
    (Excellent cavalry, but mediocre infantry)

    *Brittany
    (Unknown)

    Southern Europe
    Kingdom of Castile
(Good cavalry and gun technology, but lacks professional armies)

    Kingdom of Aragon
    (Unknown)

    Kingdom of Portugal
(Good infantry and gun technology, but also lack professional armies)

    *The Papal State
(Strong militia and full time infantry, but lacks cavalry)

    Kingdom of Sicily
(Good mix of Norman and Italian heavy infantry and missiles, but fields poor cavalry)

    Duchy of Milan & Genoa
(Strong infantry, but has poor cavalry)

    *Florence
    (Unknown)

    Republic of Venice
(Good infantry, but fields poor cavalry as well)

    Eastern Europe
    *Kievan Rus
(Good mix of Viking infantry and Russian cavalry, but fields poor missiles and technology)

    Byzantine Empire
(Strong all-around army in the Early period, but lacks good units and technology in the Late period)

    Novgorod Republic (replaces Russia)
(Powerful cavalry, but weak early period infantry)

    Kingdom of Wallachia
    (Unknown)

    The Bulgars
    (Unknown)

    *Kingdom of Serbia
    (Unknown lol)

    Kingdom of Hungary
(Strong cavalry, but lacks any effective basic infantry)

    Middle East
    Egyptian Sultanate (Fatimid Dynasty)
(Excellent desert cavalry, but weak infantry)

    Kingdom of Jerusalem
(Strong all-around, but lacks gun technology and organization)

The Turks (Seljuk Dynasty and Ottomans)
(Strong all-around units, along with excellent artillery, but lacks armor)

The Moors (Almovarid (early), Almohad (high) & Nasrid (late) Dynasties)
(Strong light infantry and cavalry, but lacks effective late period units)

    Central Asia
    The Golden Horde
(Strong cavalry, but very weak infantry)

Sultanate of India (Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals)
(Good light infantry, and one of the few factions that field elephants, but has weak cavalry)

    Persian Kingdom (Timurid Dynasty)
(Fields strong cavalry and one of the few to field elephants, but lacks infantry)

    Eastern Asia
Empire of China (Yuan Dynasty (early) & Great Ming Dynasty (high & late)
(Numerous, strong all-around and has good weapon technology, but lacks professional armies and specialization)

Shogunate of Japan (Kamakura (early) & Ashikaga (high & late)
(Excellent all-around troops, but lacks professional armies)

    Unified Korea
(Good infantry, but weak cavalry and lacks technology)

    *Thai Kingdoms
(Fields elephants as well as good light infantry, but lacks professional armies, missile troops and cavalry)

    The Americas
    The Aztecs
(Strong, numerous and zealous infantry, but has no cavalry and technology)

    The Maya
(Strong light infantry and missiles, but fields no cavalry and has no technology)

    *The Apache Tribes
(Strong light troops, but has no weapon technology and lacks professional armies)

    *The Inca
(Strong light infantry, but has no cavalry and technology)

    Africa
    *The Bantu Tribes
(Strong light infantry and cavalry, but has no technology or professional units)

Knight's Orders (may or may not be separate factions)
    Teutonic Order
    Knights Templar
    Knights Hospitaller
    Knights of Santiago

    * - may or may not be included
** - Scandinavian states may be combined since each are similar, militarily

The current map will be extended to fit some more regions of The Americas, and now the campaign will reach all the way to the Far East.

Some new religions will be added (several forms of Paganism, Buddhism (even though it's technically not a religion), *Shintoism, Hinduism, *Taoism and *Baha'i Faith)

    Any questions?

So, tell me what you guys think (And tell me if I got anything wrong, please!)

Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into this. Your faction list looks pretty nice, too!

Should keep in mind, though, that there's a hard-coded limit on factions of 31. So you'd have to make a tough choice on which factions to cut.

Also, you might not have any mod skills now, but you can always learn! Start small and work up from there! There's a lot of helpful people 'round these parts too, who'll help out on any questions you might have!

Also might want to try checking these guys!

    Cheers!

    Dangit

oh and thx for the link, I'll get to it.

So, what factions should I include, and which should I omit?

    Dunno, it's your idea.

Maybe omit some of the far eastern factions and native american factions as they would require a huge map and remodelling and skinning of units. That's a lot of work!

"Japs" is kinda offensive to some...I'd watch your use of it.

Maybe you could concentrate solely on the Far East then.

Kinda how the amazing Broken Crescent team is concentrating on the mid-east!

    Oh, sorry. No offense intended.

Hmmm . . . that is an idea . . . maybe there could be just a couple regions there that can be found (kinda like how the Americas are discovered, maybe . . . errr idk.

Cause I kinda want to make a Total War style game of Age of Empires 2. Where it has civilizations from all parts of the world duking it out against each other. You see?

*emits long, low whistle* That's some idea. But it's some workload. You would need a lot of modders for this, or an insane amount of personal time. If you could pull it off though, it would be great.

All I know, is that it's going to take a while, mainly because I'm already working on another project, but I think I'd be able to split my time between the two.

    Any volunteers willing to help???

Oh and btw, I've narrowed the faction list down to 29 factions.

    Northern Europe
    Scotland
    England
    Denmark
    *Norway

    Central Europe
    Holy Roman Empire
    *Switzerland
    *Normandy
    France
    Poland

    Southern Europe
    Castile & Aragon
    Portugal
    *The Italian States
    Sicily

    Eastern Europe
    Byzantine Empire
    Novgorod Republic
    *The Bulgars
    Hungary

    Middle East
    The Turks
    The Moors
    Egypt

    Central Asia
    The Golden Horde
    Timurid Persian
    *Delhi Sultanate

    Eastern Asia
    *Empire of China
    *Shogunate of Japan
    *Unified Korea

    The Americas
    The Aztecs
    *The Apache Tribes

    Africa
    *The Bantu Tribes

    * - Added factions

I could also draw some concept art for you guys, if you want any.

wow, i've been planning/working on something similar in my spare time. i was aiming to integrate the new features of kingdoms because i knew it would take some time. only difference is i'm not a big fan of the americas in the grand campaign due to the lack of it and many people actually hardly make it to that point in the campaign. i was gonna redo all the original factions, mainly to get rid of the carbon copy units. factions would have "common units" like sergeants and feudal knights and then have "faction units" based on their fighting style and military compositions.
