Such a Justinian mod was very interesting for me but I was very confused when I saw the units there.

I mean I don't want write a huge list with suggestions.
    I was long time off-line.
It is the project of Elrond, so he should comment that.
The last post of him was last year in september. I think it is his project, or perhaps I'm wrong???

What was the background to take the old IBFD units? Is a new version in planning?? What about the roman units?

But even in your Rio mod I was confused to see things like Comitatenses Engenieers and regular Comitatenses with exactly the same design as in IBFD. The idea behind this system is not very clear for me. I mean we are talking about a time where the Comitatenses were more n' more used for garrison duties.
Please don't misunderstand me, but I see the same Comitatenses like in Imperium Julianorum.

The feeling of a post-Aetius-time, or a time of the beginning of a dark age is missing.
This is that what I feel.
    Hi Coni,
Yes, the 5th century Ibfd units are out dated in the Justinian mod. It is something we are very aware of and we are hoping to correct it. The mod has been the project of Elrond and I have helped when I could and has given me permission to improve upon it. The problem is I'm still trying to make some improvements on the Rio Mods thus have no time as of yet. But Elrond is looking for suggesstions so please go ahead and let him know what changes you would like to see.

With the Rio mod I'm not overly concerned about using the same Comitatenses unit for the Mod starts off only 20+ years after the original IBFD but having said that yes I want to change some of the units slightly through texturing. An example would be the differences between the pseudo Comitatenses, Comitatenses, and a mid 5th century Comitatenses (for the 463ad campaign)Also Ostrogoth units such as the Saiones retexturing for historical realness. The units(as does the original IBFD mod) runs into the 6th century and off course we know the Units of this era are different. But keep in mind all mods run into this problem of starting off with historically correct units, but after several hundred years, The mods most advanced elite units are out of date.

During the 5th century, Comitatenses were broken up into a pseudo Comitatenses type, that is one equipped in between a limitanei and the Comitatenses. The pseudo Comitatenses and the limitanei are still frontier troops guarding what ever frontier there is left. The elite Roman troops such as the comitatenses armatus are an Empire East unit and recruited in selected regional ares. comitatenses first cohort can only be recruit in specific regions. and the reg. comitatenses now can only be recruited in the Siege engineer Corps: a logistical engineering building that allows the unit to sap. The Rio Mod is set up like this and I think very much as it was in history. I've added the Siege engineer Corps bld. through my concept of Roman logistics. This was my idea and to me a way of using a bit of historical imagination to the mod.

    limitanei: recruitment not limited
    pseudo Comitatenses: recruitment not limited
    comitatenses reg: recruitment limited
    comitatenses armatus: recruitment limited
    comitatenses first cohort: recruitment limited

A few things to keep in mind. Yes the Rio Mod is based on history but at the same I've allowed the game to be open to some historical imagination. The game does not have to play true to how it did played out in history.
Textures are something that I'm currently learning and can hopefully am looking into to use to better the Rio Mod. I agree it is certainly something that could help.

The primary reason for the outdated units is the fact that I cannot skin or code units - therefore things are unlikely to change.

Riothamus has upgraded the mod so that it works for Rio v7 - I wasnt going to wait for suggestions but I will release it today - if anyone has any suggestions (within the limit of a provincial campaign) then post them in the suggestions thread.

After downloading the Justinian campaign to your desktop. Open the Justinian provincial campaign and click on the Justinian Campaign folder. Then simply copy it in the rio/data/world/maps/campaign folder....it will not copy over any files, it will just copy itself in the campaign folder. It will be available to play as a provincial campaign

    Includes

-The scripted death of Justin I and Justinian's elevation to the throne has been created
-The horrible plague that struck Constantinople during Justinian's reign
-Many of the new additions from the Rio Mod such as client and, saptry units and palace guard units from new Barbarian and Roman palaces...And much more.

    Rio,
Thanks for the quick reponse! I downloaded the file and saved it to my hard drive. How do I open it up? My computer does not recognize the *.rar file type.
BTW, I realy enjoy your IBFD -BRG mods. Its much better then the I could have hoped and certainly superior to the original RTW BI. The later Rome period has always been my favorite historical topic. Years ago I used to plan an Avalon Hill style board game called "Imperium Romanium". It has some detailed Orders of Battle for several late Roman campaigns including a hypothetical match between Belasarius and Justinian (it assumes that Belasarius accepts the Western crown from the Ostragoths). Could be a provincal campaign?

Yes When You open up the Justinian provincial campaign folder you should see the Justinian 4 turn scripts inside Its an installer set up ifor this installation path: C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\rio\data\scripts\show_me

You may need to change its installation path to where your mod is. Just make sure it ends with \show_me

Any questions please ask I'll be glad to help you
