    Default GOOD NEWS: SENATE REMOVED

After clearing my head, having several beers, relaxing and thinking hard, I have successfully gotten the Romans removed and the Chinese in...urr, or was that the Bolivians? Anyway, they have a lotta Legions and stuff.....

    Anyway, it works.

dvk, have you changed your mind and decided to implement the new factions and start date on the current map, before moving over to the new map?

Well Cherry, the Mundus Gigantus basically changed it for me. In it's present state, it's just plain unusable. Expanding it 'flattened' all the terrain, so you can't tell where any of the obstructions, passes or forests were. It also moved settlements far from where they should be. To even get the terrain right, NR is going to have to move settlement locations.....it just needs a lot more work than I thought at first. So until it's really ready to be used as a map, yeah, we'll have to stick with the old one.

With the internal name of romans_senate you have a great deal of problems using that faction slot for another faction because the game has a lot of hard coded stuff linked to the name romans_senate. So if you want to use that faction slot for another faction you need to rename the romans_senate faction. As you can probably tell from all the buises on dvk's forehead it took a lot of work and even more aggravation to get the senate properly removed so that we could put the Boii in.

So do you think we'll go ahead and make all the changes -- 3 new factions, plus possibly Sparta as the Greek faction, plus Hannibal in Italy etc. -- on this map? Or would you rather take a 'middle' option, where we keep the same start date, add the Scythians using the Senate slot, and then focus on revamping unit rosters for the other factions?

Did you get the Mundus loading at least? I have been trying for my own side project to scale the Mundus up, and I am stuck with Damascus not on a valid tile.

Have you gotten anything like this?

It's loading, never tried doing anything else.

I've had that a few times, just clear all obstructing terrain and do something else, and somehow it's worked every time lol

Thats the thing, there is no terrain blocking the city.

Just bear in mind that our version of the Mundus that is blown up is not the full Mundus, I cut 20% of the map off both the southern and eastern sides, so it a smaller portion of Mundus that is blown up to be almost as big as the IceTorque map. I never had any issues with cities not being on a valid tile, but I left them in the equivalent of the originial locations.

I think you'll run into the water or landmass CTD if you try and blow up the base Mundus map. Also the map loaded and could be played by the time I passed it off to NR, it was just not accurate for regions and a lot of armies were missing from the map because I deleted them to make it easier to get it to load.

I can get it to load fine, it's when you try to adjust heights where the cities cause issues.

Just an update on progress, I have the Boii in and currently 'cloned' the same as Gauls. All the factions have been renamed (totally confusing myself in the process), Belgae, Boii, Scythia, Sarmatae, Cimbri, Cantabrians, Arverni and Sparta.

I'm in the process of moving things around on the map, I have Carthage in Northern Italy, moving 'Independant Cities & States' out of Barbarian territory, fixing AOR stuff and making adjustments to various region ownership entries to reflect the new setup. Hopefully will make more progress this weekend. I have to remove all the units from current Epirus and Syracuse, and assign them barbarian generals in order to change the culture...so it's kind of a mess right now as I tear this thing apart and try to put back it together.
