    Default Unifying Rome

I want to give all of the towns on Italy to the Julii and I want to rename Patavium as Venice, how do I do this?

Ps. It would also be good if you told me how to create more towns.

I will try to describe how to unify the roman factions step by step as I did it. This should work for RTW 1.3 or later. Ok,here we go!

    1) Make a backup of the descr_strat.txt located in C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign.

    2) Open this file and remove Brutii, Scipii and the Senate from the list of playable, unlockable and unplayable factions.

    3) Now scroll down to the factions section and copy and paste the cities of the other romans to the Julii section. Make sure you don't forget to move any of the cities since all cities must appear in this file or the game won't work.

    4) If you have any photo editing program, open the map_regions.tga located here: C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\base. Notice the coordinates of the small black dots in each region. This will help you later when you are going to garrison the cities (see 6).
If you don't have a photo editing program, you must do this manually by starting a new campaign as each of the roman factions, noting which character starts in each city and write down their names. Then check in each factions section which coordinates these characters are assigned. The same goes for family members, agents, captains and admirals.

    5) You can now delete the sections of the other roman factions. Do so carefully and don't forget to remove anything. Then scroll up to the Julii section and remove this line:

    superfaction romans_senate

This is what you have to do to convert the romans into a single faction. I would, however, recomand doing the following:

    6) Now scroll down and create a new line somewhere beneath the named characters. A captains line is built like this:

    character Numerius, general, age 20, , x 106, y 51

    army
unit roman city militia exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0
unit roman city militia exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

The numbers colored red are the coordinates you noticed earlier. I would now recomand creating a new captain for each unocuppied city. Make sure you don't use the same name twice, not only among the captains but among all characters. Take a look in the descr_names.txt file in the main Data folder if you need new names. If you feel confident in modding you may try creating new family members, but this is a lot harder and requires a lot of work. There are several nice guides on how to do this so take a look. I have done this myself but only after hours of work and I don't feel confident enough to make a tutorial.

    7) Change the name of the Julii to Rome, SPQR or whatever by following this guide.

Hope this helps, and before you start DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR FILES!

    Good luck
    End of an era

After some research I found how you rename settlements.

    1) Find imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt in your Data/Text folder. Make a backup.

    2) Open this file, find the settlement you want to rename and edit the names outside the brackets {}. Don't touch the names inside or you will be in trouble. To change Patavium into Venice, change this:

    {Patavium} Patavium

    Into this:

    {Patavium} Venice

    That's it!

An entirely new unit that does not already exist in RTR?

Yes, but can be based off other units, but since the rise of rome mod is coming I don't need to know anymore.
