Default I am wondering who else have house rules?

This mod i play with certain personal restrictions:

    1] never hire mercs,
    2] never adopt sons,
3] never blitz besides the rebels, I always send a diplomat after conquering an enemy town to ask for peace, if not than it's their bad decission
4] never ally with the pope
5] never redo a battle only use saves for CTDs you can't pass by

I dropped my sixth rule always support my ally, because somehow being allied to the human player is a sending to the scrapheap of history {might be hardcoded} so I dropped that one

though I am curious about the other TLR fans?

i too have house rules. i think of them as principles of my king's bloodline. maybe part of their book of morals or what not.
    * i have your house rule number 2. never to adopt sons.
    * i also dont blitz except the rebels and their settlements.
    * i ask for peace when im running short of troops to rampage the rest of a country's settlements.
    * i sometimes ally with the pope.
    * i never thought of redoing a battle even if i had the better odds but still got utterly crushed.
    * i never marry my princesses to men outside my country's royal bloodline. so cousins getting married to cousins. if no male in my country is eligible, they dont get married. lol

    1. my royal family have no intention of bringing one not of royal blood into there warm embrace, daughters and sons marry princes and princeses, and if that means a coulple of my sons live out there life as right handers, lol by all means.

    2. untill recently, i loaded up a saved game if i lost a battle, espically if it ment me loseing york to those damm scots......AGAIN..... but, not a week ago i asked myself what would make this game even more fun? more rules, more realisim, so loading saved games when it didnt go my way went straight out the window........ and what do ya think happend later on that day? not only did i lose York....but my prince was slaughterd right in front of the whole army, causeing all those spinless woman to flee in a fluffy panic.....but was fun to mourn and feel a sence of sadness so i kept to the rule.

    3. never cheat, hate cheaters in any shape or form.

    4. and lastly, NEVER give those damm SCOT SCUUUM any quater......lol

    My "house rules" are:
    1. No alliance, treaty or trade with anyone outside my religious faction.
    2. No save replays. Saves are only every 5 turns or so and only in defense against CTD.
    3. Rebel armies are to be slaughtered to the last man but legit armies are to be allowed to leave the field once they break and flee.
    4. Any city that rebels is to be slaughtered, no exceptions.
    5. Only one field army to be maintained at a time. Two front wars are to be avoided at all cost but if attacked on a front other than what is already engaged in war, then only city defensive efforts can be levied.
    6. If peace is asked from a member of the same religious faction, it must be granted.
    7. All wars against other religious factions are wars of total conquest, no peace asked for or given.

I'll give you full access to any 2 of my house rules for a royalty of .02 percent of your faction's GNP (before expenses) per turn, payable to my faction's kings purse.

Of course, this is a limited time offer. The usual price on the royalty is .05 percent.

All offers good for one campaign only. No other special offer can be combined for additional savings.
    Limit one offer per customer.

good mix of dread and chivalry, imo. religion oriented, too. nice. no trade even with peaceful members of other religions? if you're the scots, wouldnt you be far from harm from muslims? but i like the way you think. ;p

Does not matter if they may be a threat or not. They are heathen and/or blasphemers. Their goods are tainted and their ways are a mockery of civilized folk.

They exist only to be conquered.

Actually, I do it that way to make it harder to expand. I dont send priests ahead of armies, I dont send priests to "power up" in heathen lands. That is all "terra incognita" to me until I have no choice but to put them to the sword and flame.

You reminded me of a house rule I forgot to list:
    8. All lands belonging to religious factions other than my own are "no go zones" for all purposes except military incursion.
No spies, no priests, no agents of any sort may enter "terra incognita" unless as part of an army of conquest. Also, all agents must remain in the same province as the army.

an interesting thought on Terra incognita, I like it Grimmy.

I will try that one on my next campaign.

I also plan to have a new rule no longer recruiting generals and no longer suicide bad family members, though especially the last part will be challenging.... I do not make it a promise

interesting, I use mercenaries a lot, since they are expensive it looks like Air STUFF

most of my house rules are related to battles. Never build an elite army, for example, always train a lot of sergeant spearmen and spear militia. Never build a lot of knights, since they were nobles and there wasn't so many nobles around. Stop shooting and attack them already, the AI is stupid and if you take advantage it will be no fun at all. Don't wait siege time, climb up those damn walls! They will be slaughtered on a field battle so c'mon

    My houserules:

    - I never use mercs (the game becomes harder when AI gets them instead of you obviously).
    - I never demand money from the AI in exchange of alliance, trade rights, map info or anything else.

And before I used this houserule that I only fought battles manually with the faction leader, which has a realistic feel to it, since you can roleplay a little and pretend you are the faction leader.

I'm not much for house rules, but I do only recruit generals from castles... I don't adopt, but I will marry my daughters to the generals I recruit occaisionly to expand my family line legitimately. I also of course don't reload battles... that is it for my house rules, the game is hard enough as it is...

Ok, I "quoted" the entirely wrong reply.

I meant this in reply to Rex Inanimatus at #8 above.

    hentejada:

If I am playing a Catholic faction, then the only time I would be able to launch an assassination attack on an Islamic or Orthodox faction general or agent would be if my assassin was with my army in the same region as the Islamic or Orthodox general/agent.

Assassination is viable when closing in on a heretic army to eliminate their commander just prior to engaging in battle, or breaking/killing something/someone in a city/castle just before attacking.

To make it clearer, I hope, agents can leave the army stack but cant wander off into other regions other than the one their army stack is also in.
An exception to that would be if the Pope ordered it. Then the assassin would go do his duty but he'd be left in that province, even if he succeeded in his attack. I wouldn't want him bringing heretic cooties back with him.

Actually, it's not about faith or any such. I am only trying to find ways to naturally slow down expansion without making it a total pain to manage.

I kind of play it off as my troops are wandering into those blank spots on the ol' maps that had "there be dragons" and pictures of dragons, just in case anyone reading about there being dragons were confused as to what to expect when said dragon was encountered.

And, everyone does know that heretics carry cooties. If you get hairytick cooties, you'll never get a girl to dance with ya.

You know, I've never had a tribute issue come up in game.
