Campaign Freeze

When I play the early campaign the game freezes and i need to shut down the computer. It happens every 5-10 minutes. . (i havent tried to play any battles, i have just used the auto resolve) It normaly freezes in the city windows or when i am selecting troops on the campain map. When i installed the mod I did the following.

1- installed a fresh copy of vanilla M2TW
2- installed the M2TW 1.2 patch
3-installed Sicilian Vespers 2.0

I noticed that on the MOD installation instructions it says to use patch 1.02 for m2tw. but i could only find 1.2 so i used that instead believing that they were the same. I dont know if 1.02 and 1.2 are just two different names for the same patch.

i just want to fix this issue so i can keep playing the game.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

MIITW patch calls 1.02 officially (look at file name), but it spreads always with the name/version 1.2 as well, and yes, they are the same.

Did you check the stickied thread about the Non-English MIITW versions, i recommend it.
At least, if you run just not an English version, you have to provide something additional by yourself (the soundfix), to let the SV game work proper.

Three possible sources of problems:


1. You use a non-english version and the sound-files cause trouble, as DaVinci said.

In this case look for the folder "...\Sicilian Vespers\data\sounds" and delete all files. Then copy events.dat and events.idx from Medieval II Total War\data\sounds to SicilianVespers\data\sounds.


2. You have a non-english-version and didn´t change the directory of your respective launcher. (so far spanish, german and italian launchers are available...if you got another version, post here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=99547 )

In order to use the launcher copy it over the usual Sicilian Vespers launcher, then open it with "edit" (not "attributes"...it took me half an hour to figure that out) and change the line:

SET M2TW= "C:\....\Sega\Medieval II Total War\SicilianVespers\data\text"

so, that it resembles your installation folder.


3. You have the launcher, but choose the wrong era. I experienced infrequently CTDs, when i typed "l" for late era campaign and then played an early campaign, though it wasn´t as often as you describe it.

I add one issue to those of Konstantin :

- There could be some video card issues. Some video cards cause the game to freeze all the system. I had this issue with M2TW and other games, the game freezes and no key is useful, but in some cases, waiting a bit, and doing Alt+Tab or put the PC in standby mode will let me come to desktop, where there is a window telling the video driver has ceased working. Check this out.

I had this issue EXACTLY in the cases you mention, when using just the Campaign map only.
If other recent games give you frequent crashes, there is probably an hardware issue.

Be sure to signal the error with the Microsoft automatic tool, if it appears when you restart windows, it will tell you if there is a video card problem.

If is that, how to solve that? There is no safe way, it happens often with Nvidia cards, it could be a damaged video card, or either an hardware conflict no one was capable of solving yet
Apparently it's a problem of "looping", there are many threads you can search on Google about it....

I repeat, IF IS THAT, there is no evidence until you tell me that windows error reporting signals you that there is a video driver problem.

I am using an english version of the game (bought it in best buy) and i have been making sure to use the right letter (L for late era, E for Early). i am still having freezes. ive tried to use Alt+Tab but it doesnt work. and when my computer restarts i get any messages saying that there was an error.

I do have an nvidia GeForce 6500 card, but it doesnt give me problems with any other games (civ 4, vanilla M2tw, Company of heroes)

Does the mod work Ok with your computers, is it stable???

ALso , there arent any files that need to be copied from the m2tw data folder to the Sicilian Vespers data folder right???

Nope, you have actually to copy two files from \data\sounds of vanilla M2, to the same folder of SV, if you have some issues. Check the sticky threads in this forum for additional info.

Also if you are using a no-cd crack (I don't know that, I'm just considering every cause, don't be offended in case ), there could be some problems of this sort.

I really hope that i can resolve these issues .......this seems like a great mod but it keeps freezing on me.

I guess using the 1.1 no-cd crack with the 1.2 patch causes the campaign to freeze.

If you're using one, I would go back to using the DVD.

I checked the sound files but the the sound effects is working just fine, its just the freezes.

I loaded the game to try to get the screenshots and the following happened.

1) the first time.....it froze and then the computer automatically restarted.
2)the second time....it froze and I tried to get the screenshot but it didnt take them.

It is much more common for the game to just freeze (nothing works to get me out , ive tried ctrl+alt+del and atl+tab,) i just end up having to turn of the computer.

sometimes the game will freeze and automatically restart. but this happens less frequently.

I am using the DVD to play the game.

The soundfix is needed in any case if you would run a non-english M2 version, but you said you have an english DVD version and as well the english patches, right?

Just confirm once more that you can play M2 vanilla without issues, so we can isolate the problem to your SV installment.

yeah it works fine. (vanilla M2TW) you know , maybe I just downloaded a faulty version of the patch and mod. maybe ill just try to install the game, patch, and mod again and see if it works better. where is a good site for me to get the patch and mod.
