But since KLA will not likely see it I will let it slide....just barely. Seriously, whether you like someone's work or not, that gives you no reason whatsoever to bash them. KLA already gets enough trash talk from stupid, disrespectful people who download his skins, and frankly I am surprised he puts up with it so well.

what rule am i breaking? im just saying that his models and skins are not up to par with this mod. also why cant we have an opinion about his skins? i cant say they are bad? and now your threatning to censor me? im really curious as to what rule im breaking, cause ive read the rules and i cant see one i broke, also this is in a private forum that he cant see.
also i did not "bash" him personally, i said his work is bad, is that a crime? if someone thinks i suck then let them think it, heck post it for all i care, most of the time ill take it as constructive critisim.....

I wouldnt say that either, his skins are quite good, jsut as much time and effort goes into his work as you do for your skins. Just because he has a different style doesnt mean they are bad or not worthy enough for this mod. Its not up to you to decide what is and is not good enough for this mod is it?

I am not saying you cant have an opinion on his skins, nor a bad one. If you truly hate his skins with a passion, the thats fine by me. But that gives you no reason to publicly bash someone for it.

If this was in a public part of the forum, I would have to delete the post. The reason why is because it is a flame, pure and simple. While it is mild, it is still a flame, you are bashing anothers work.

Bashing a modders work is just as bad as bashing them personally, if not worse. A modder would like to know his or her work is appreciated, and if someone doesnt like it, they should use constructive criticism instead of insulting the work. And even if KLA took it as you say you would, such a comment gives him nothing to go off of except "bad models": and "bad skins". In fact, that really cannot fall under constructive criticism, no matter how you want to look at it.


Since it is in a private forum, KLA probably will not see it, so I would not give an infraction of any kind. However you must understand the degree of your comment, regardless of whether or not KLA sees it or not.

I think king louise makes best detail models and skins i ever seen. Maybe too detailed? i think he can levy on the "tone" he uses and other stuff but all in all, we should ask for his help, but he is rather busy, so many mods hes contributing.

i never said he didnt spend time on his skins, so why are you putting words in my mouth? btw i was asked by tone to help with general overal development of the units, most importantly eastern factions, im just stating an opinion, its up to the team to decide if they want to use his skins

I tend to disagree. I actually quite like his new Imperial Roman skins. And that's saying a lot since I hate Romans in general. (Sorry Dvk!)

i dont see whats wrong with those skins. they actually look pretty nice to me. i am just a lowly beta tester that really doesnt know jack squat about skinning, but that seemed like an uncalled for comment. i may not like romans but i still think he did a great job on what eventually become corpses on a field beneath my hoplite's sandaled feet.

I have to say that although there is a lot of detail in there and some individual elements are really good, there is a real lack of coherence in his modelling and skinning. The models tend to be somewhat lumpy and I think the problem is a lack of shading and so on, which means that all the elements of the model don't hang together well. So I have to say I'm not keen.

At one point (several months ago, before I knew any modelling) I did ask him to help out, but he was quite busy.

I agree that there seems to be something 'off' about many of his models, although I can't put my finger on what it is; maybe the thighs are too big? I do like his faces though -- his men are great scowlers. And the five o'clock shadow is a great touch.

I apologize for my light-heartedness over this, I think you all know I don't like personal jabs or criticism unless it's given in a constructive way, but this is a private Developers Forum, so I didn't see anything wrong with expressing a personal opinion. Had it been in the public forum, I would've deleted it instantly..but it wasn't.

Still, having seen literally hundreds and hundreds of skins, I have to be honest in saying that I know an 'excellent' one when I see it, and a 'good' one, and a 'so-so' one. I was looking at KLA's 'Imperial Romans' just considering a little variety for our Legions, however...this is where 'Good' doesn't stand up to 'excellent'. Here is an example of KLA's work:



Now here is an example of Ferres' work, one of our units:



And one of our City Hoplites:




Now I suppose to the every day guy just looking for a nice skin...who cares the difference? But if you study these textures, as I have, you'll see that the fine detail, depth of color, precision of the various parts of the texture, and just the overall 'look' of the latter two textures is far superior. It is even more evident when you blow them up to double size. KLA's textures become 'grainy', whereas the latter two lose almost nothing by doing so.

When I was looking for textures for this mod, I'd have given my eye teeth to find the kind of quality units that AE, SoR and Tone have been producing, and I chose, in agreement with Tone to use Ferres' models over Prometheus' Romans (even though we then had permission to use them), for this reason. There just are not ANY better Roman skins in terms of the quality of how they are made.

So I would say he makes good units, they look nice and would be great in a mod......but not this one when you compare to what we have.
