    Default Civil War problems

Well, Iam playing house rules and I got about 25 Legions (republican). Greece, Italy, Gaul, Spain and Asia Minor are mine and so the civil war begins. First off, the first battle with the senate was just a pure rape. They when through my battle line like a hot knife through butter, any tactics I should be aware of.

Second, With in 5 turns of the civil war starting, Roman Rebels have taken 3 costal cities in spain, and 4 legions in gaul and 2 in panniona along with solona (used for defense agaisnt the horse guys from the steppe). Is there a sricpt for starting a rebellion in the empire for a big challage.

So now iam down to about 18 legions and about 10 are unmovable or I will lose vast areas of my empire to the eastern devils or german invaders.

    Advice? anyone

Ah, remaking History, I love to hear stories like this, it means I did my job well. ;-)

Basically Loyalty is unique, and if your not careful you can drive your empire into rebellion, after all how do they know if the other guy may provide better for them than you? lol

Senate soldiers are Men like anyone else, Though you should have used Imperial Legionaries for them as thats what they use. Praetorians are a Pain, basically to be safe you need 2 legions to their one. ;-) Use some mercenaries they are all over the place, Maybe some artillery? It will be tough.

As for Revolts, sounds like some of you generals arent happy or have too many bad traits. lol Beware of the "Ides of March". ;-)

I'll let some others give you some tips, if they miss anything I will post a few things.

Excuse me lt1965, but Caesar won the civil war with republican legions! Shouldn't we try to do the same?

that's what i was thinking too, but if historical accuracy isn't too much a part of house rules (at least as it concerns the civil war), i'd be more than happy to take on the praetorians with imperial legions as that would be much easier

rep me if you like my posts, and it's highly likely you'll get some back

Caesar started the Civil War and won the first part, but he was then killed, murdered.

The Civil war or at least a second started later with Octavian and Mark Anthony etc...

The destruction of those last few powerful senators and their Legions.

Thats when Rome turned into an Empire, but as for Republican Legions, Imperial Legionnaires didn't come into being until the Imperial status was properly settled....what I mean by that is that there was an Emperor in charge and not a war all the time between Ambitious men and the Senate. lol

    Academy/Economy = low unrest

Well, I did notice that most of the rebels had 2 loyalty and well, expect moving my legions across the med, the fight goes well. I have around 70k without cheating so that must be a problem.

I also notice Italy has a very bad economy expect for taras and arriutem(spell?)

    Thanks for the help.

Doesn't how much money you have stored make a diffrence on peoples loyalty? Over 100k and they start to lose alittle bit of loyalty, over 250k and a couple rebel and over a million is lots of rebellions.

Also if you use one general a lot he starts to 'get ideas' that he is great therefore lose loyalty and challenge your rule but i don't think that is the problem since you have 25 generals and legions.

I say to avoid it keep family members as head of the army use any money you have every turn until it gets down to less than 10,000 (theres always something to build) and don't keep people far away from home i guess which is more difficult with large empire. I put captains in forts along the german frontier and generals in the cities so i don't waste a lot of money on upkeep andhave way too many generals and governers all over the place.

I also spend my money every turn to make sure i won't have a lot and it has worked for me all theway through not one family memeber or general or legion has rebelled, when cities are low on public order and they revolt my legion or garrisson leaves the city with the general, then i can take it again and massacre all the traitors.

House rules are to have a general for every legion. Family are NOT immune to the loyality loss. Only Faction leader and Heir

Yeah the generals part is important. Generals are the guys that you recruit in cities. Family members have less upkeep, but are not allowed to command legions.

What would you say Lt, to putting a weak general with a legion, and then having a strong family member in charge with him? I suppose this makes the game easier and thus is against houserules, and I've never done it. Do you?

I never add family to the legions unless its a last resort like in the beginning and you have NO CHOICE. lol But normally they would be seperate from the legions as they usually controlled armies, so its not really good to have them in charge, you you can House rules say NO leader or Heir being used for legions. Family can be used but I would hate to risk losing them as they are your family line. lol They make better governors IMO than generals.

Alatar, Basically Generals can revolt even with Many stars under the right conditions. So basically just play as normal. I dont watch every general UNLESS you happen to notice 1 star or something then I pull him for rest in a city, but alot of times you just cant watch 30 different family/generals all the time. Garrisons, Legions, etc. So you will lose Legions from time to time and even citys. Just try not to allow bad traits as they really cause problems. Games are a Big cause of bad traits which can lead to disloyalty later on.

All cities that have a Mine will make Buku Denarii. Remember though that -totals on cities are NOT losses just means that the cities are footing th Bill for the Legions. CA really messed up on that total feature making you think your taking losses when your not, its an old problem when RTW first came out. lol

yeah the total cost of your armies/agents is divided among your cities in proportion to population. If you want to know the real income of a city, look at city info to find it.
