The Holy Empire

(This AAR will use both France and the HRE. So stick with me here.)

The year is 1084. The Holy Roman Empire has secured an alliance with the noble France. The Pope has personally spoken to both Emperor Heinrich and King Philip about a Holy Empire. The Pope is seeing Christendom fading in the world and it does not please him. He has decided to ask the most powerful leaders of the world to work together and found a holy empire, one that would spread Christianity throughout the world. Both Philip and Heinrich have agreed to the task, and their war must begin. The first targets of this Holy War will be the small states of Italy. Both France and The Holy Roman Empire have access to Italy and the wrath of god shall be brought down upon these unholy people.

Holy Roman Empire:
After sending Captain Markus to take Hamburg from the filthy rebels to the north Emperor Heinrich began his plans for war against Milan to the south. After accepting the task of uniting the world under one empire the Emperor is realizing that there is much more work to be done than just asking those nations around him for their land. His funds are low after expanding his empire to the small cities and castles around him. Hamburg was obviously the next choice as it would provide solid protection in case of invasion by Denmark.

Suddenly a messenger barges into the room in which the Emperor was sitting. He said, “My lord! Word just arrived from Captain Markus. That fool attacked the castle instead of waiting out the siege as you asked. He has been pushed back and now the Danes have been seen surrounding the city. There is a good chance that they will capture the castle.”

This news came as a shock to the Emperor. Markus had always listened to what he had ordered him to do. He wondered why Markus disobeyed him this time. Yet he wasn’t done with all the news he would get this day. Merely 3 hours later another messenger came bursting into the room saying, “Emperor! Herrmman Raspe has laid siege to Florence. I thought you had sent him out to dispose of a small group of rebels?”

“My god! Have I lost control of all my army? This must not last! Send more men to aid Herrmman for he can not possibly defeat the Florentines with his army. Secondly send Maximillian Mandorf to replace Captain Markus and order him to attack the castle of Hamburg no matter who occupies it!”

France:
King Philip has taken Bordeaux and Dijon from French rebels and has sent troops to capture Rennes. After speaking with Emperor Heinrich of The Holy Roman Empire, Philip has decided to send troops to attack Milan, launching the war to unite the world under one holy empire. France’s threat of invasion from England is more real than ever. The King of England turned against the Pope and said that he would not participate in this Holy War and the only reason for this must be that England wants a piece of France.

Thats the reason I used france also. I figured since they were kinda the center of Europe I'd use them both. More is coming soon.

France
Captain Cristofle was sent by Philip to lead an attack on Genoa, but Aubert Febre attempted to sneak into the city to open the gates for Cristofle. He was captured and killed before he even arrived inside. This news saddened all the soldiers, they feared that maybe they too would not make it inside the gates of the city, but after an inspiring speech by Cristofle the men were ready for action. After the speech the men knew they were working for God and were inspired to do battle.

King Philip has ordered Rolin De Neuftville to attack the grand city of Milan. If it falls Milan will be forced to surrender the surrounding lands to France and the end of this quick war. Rolin has spotted two armies sent by Emperor Heinrich to aid in the war, but he knows that King Philip is nervous that Heinrich’s new war with Denmark may slow the process of uniting Italy under the Lord Almighty.

Holy Roman Empire
Emperor Heinrich has sent Maximillian Mandorf and a small dispatch of men to Antwerp from the newly captured city of Hamburg. The filthy Danes have attempted to spread around Hamburg and are attempting to move south now into the more northern territories of The Holy Roman Empire.

After sending Herrmman Rasspe to aid in the siege of Milan Emperor Heinrich decided to send a small dispatch of men from Innsbruck to also aid in the siege of Milan. But just a couple days after Herrmman left Florence after recently taking it a Milanese army was spotted about 20 miles away from the city. Herrmman had only left a small garrison to defend the city and they were outnumbered by far.

France
King Philip and Emperor Heinrich have been planning the next nation to be forced to join the Holy Empire. After days of dispute it was agreed that after Milan falls Venice will become the next target, though King Philip is becoming nervous due to the fact that both Spain and Portugal have soldiers moving in his lands. Philip hopes that this is not an act of war, but he is sending a messenger to both nations as to find out their reasons for the soldiers.

The siege of Milan has been going without much of a hitch. The men were excited when they saw more troops from The Holy Roman Empire arrive from the north. The sight was enough to make the soldiers inside the city think of surrender. It was obvious they were doomed yet their Doge wished them to still fight. They were losing trust in him and this lack of morale was becoming a danger to the great doge. The fate of the city was decided and it was time to attack.

The siege of Genoa was coming to an end. Cristofle was beginning to move his troops into position to attack the great costal city. It was obvious to the Cristofle’s men that those defending Genoa would surrender soon, but they were deceived. The Milanese had made the decision to sally forth out of the city and attack Cristofle. They had no hope, Cristofle lead his men with great skill and defeated the defenders and took the city for the Holy Empire.

Holy Roman Empire
After receiving word from the French general that it was time to attack the city Herrmman Rasspe began to prepare his army to move into the city. Philip and Heinrich had already decided to allow the city to be granted to The Holy Roman Empire. Just 3 hours later Herrmman was leading his army closer to the city. Projectiles were flying everywhere, but Herrmman’s men did not care. They were prepared to die for their God. The battle was short and decisive, with the combination of French and Roman forces the Milanese had no chance. The cities riches were pillaged by the great armies and then it was granted to Herrmman.

After Milan fell a messenger was sent to the enemy army near Florence. They told them that the Doge had fallen and that if the army surrendered they would not be punished for fighting for the Empire’s enemies. The men laid down their weapons and would enjoy life in Florence and the surrounding areas.

Wow this is good, I'm really intregued! I'm also playing as the Holy Roman Empire and they are my 2nd favourite. They were HARDLY roman, as we all know. I have to admit, every time I play it I never attack Milan, I ally with them and the Venicians and make them each others enemies and I sit back and wait to take Venice. Oh and yeah you do have to be quick to take hamburg or the Danes get it, quite a ********* that one is...
They are a excellent faction, especially with the Tuetonic Order behind them! Again though, your AAR sounds good, hope to hear how it ends, I'm kinda taking notes for my campaign.

I'm also kinda getting the impression that this "Coalition" you've formed with the French won't end well... they are war mongering ***********s and quite frank, lol, I hope you kick their ass!

This is a cool concept for an AAR. I never get past turn 30 with HRE, but France on the other hand is one of my favs. Keep it coming
