    Default House Rules

    sig made by Aurelius Maximus

    Alot of other mods such as RTJ and LTC have house rules. House rules are basically guidelines to follow to give a player the best gaming experience with that particular mod. For exmaple a house rule in LTC is "3. Do not just build all elite armies". SS is already a great mod, (IMO the best ) so we should play it to it's full potentional. Hopefully we can compile an efficent and sensible list of do's and dont's for gameplay. Remember your houserules can be specific or general to SS gameplay. Please if you have a good idea, add. I'll start the list;

    1. Do not blitz the templars, or surround them early on. They have potental, but just need some time.
    2. Dont supersizeme your castle's population with ridiculous amounts of farming to gain fast acess to top tier units. It's incredibly unrealistic and just decreases gameplay.
    3. Vary your siege warfare. If you never bring siege equipment, try bringsome. If you always wait out your sieges, try building some battlefield rams or towers. If you always use ladders, try rams and towers ect.

And Kudos to King Kong for a great mod!

    Hi AdmiringTheEnemy,

    Nice idea actually!
Well, my reason for not making any house rules is because I wanted to make this a great game regardless on how it is played...
But you're right that indeed some rules aren't bad!

however, for those who are interested, my own house rules are:

    1. Play on VH/VH! (Yes, I love unpredicatble AI! )
    2. Don't blitzkrieg anyone!
    3. Don't starve out enemy sttlements!
    4. Don't build too much cavalry...

Well, that's all personal preference, of course, but I may stick this when I have re-organized the forum a bit...

I guess I'm following your rules pretty well.

    1: I always play on VH/VH.

    2: I don't blitzkrieg anyone. I consolidate my territories.

3: I don't starve enemy settlements although I sometimes do far worse and more inhumain things...

4: My armies are composed by javelinmen, archers, crossbowmen, and light and heavy infantry.

I guess this makes me a good student, right?

lol, nice, i agree with everything except blitzkrieg.
    My personal list
1.kill entire Italy, slaughter, exterminate(because they always aims to attack me and pisses me off by giving me vassal offers)
2.Try mercenary once in a while rather than using the same units over and over.. My personal favorite is the Mercenary Saracens.

+rep for me if you agree with me , i might give it right back to you

    Nice ideas everyone

I agree with Mike; all Italian factions are pain in the neck little traitors.

An important one; combine Stainless Steel with xenophonia to have one kick-a mod!

Why no starving out? Starving them out is much more realistic than storming the castle immediately. Hardly any sieges ended in an all out battle within the castle.

I agree, especially for certain factions, early game Turks pretty much gotta starve out their enemy, horse archers are useless on sieges and their early infantry sucks balls.

Well you could bring a balista or 2 to knock out the towers and ram down the gate with a disposal unit. Then just posistion your HA's next to the gate entrace (turn of skirmish mode) and they'll releash a devestating volley of arrows on the helpless meele defenders. If they try to catch you, run back. If they head for the town center, chase them. When you see enemy archers running around the streets imediately get your general to meele them. You'll loose the disposal unit, but your general and horsearchers won't take that many looses unless you are very outnumbered.

Or you could just starve them out.

For sure - I always siege the buggers out and take them when they're sallying. Tho I can see why it would be a house rule for some...makes things more of a challange!

Theres no right way of playing, but some house rules can only increase the challenge for people!

Besides its not like theres hardly ever a full garrison anyway

Regarding VH/VH...I thought that just turned everyone against you unrealistically regardless of anything else? I've never tried it, I'm always H/VH here so that diplomacy counts for something. Happy to be enlightened though

no it's lot diffrent because i had played h/vh since thre has been house rules came. now iam playing as vh/vh iam already doomed because moors attacks in two sides with massive stacks in h/vh i usually knocks them out so soon but iam feeling difficult and the years are passing!!!!

I use most of the above rules. Personally, i play vh/vh and my rule for diplomacy is 2100 florins is the maximum amount of cash to change hands per interaction. No more charging 8000 florins for an alliance you KNOW the genius computer will break very soon. Then declaring war, and charging 5000 florins for cease fire..etc etc....adds more difficulty.

hey chola, what buildings have you been constructing? You got to focus certain things in certain places, like, you don't build irrigation and farms in a castle, waste of money, and you don't get much in return. Same thing, cities are designed for money mostly, i think there are excpetions in certain factions, in whcih the elite units are recruited out of the city. So normally you should construct more of warehouse... port... farms... churches in cities. Don't try to do too much, or else you'll find yourself in a money debt hole which will cause a lot of trouble

Hi, I have found diplomacy for the latest sega patch to be fine in VH/VH. I have had long lasting alliances, with Poland for example who hold Jerusalem in the middle of my Templar empire. The inter-marriages are helping here I'm sure.

My house rule is no re-loading saved games. If something goes pear-shaped, I dont load an earlier saved game to try and change it.
