Britannia

I finally got to Britannia and I got creamed....... ANNIHILATED......... all they have are chariots and missle units backed with a few experienced heavy infantry. that combo destroyed me, i can't find any tactics to fight the britans, help?

you must study the tactics of Julius Caesar and all previous roman commanders lol. try putting alot of triarii in front line then skirmishers behind them and set them to run back from nearing enemy and then line up your hastati or w/e in line with the skirmishers select them to fire at will and then wait for your trarii to wear them down some. take all cavalry and attack their flanks if it all possible. sorry if this doesn't work.

are you using premarian units?? if so, i'd advise you to wait until you get at least the late republic legions to fight them, and since you probably defeated the Gauls to get to britannia, then you probably have a border with the germans as well, in which case i would SRONGLY advise you use marian legions to defend them.

In SPQR 6.1 fire arrows were very effective agaist chariots, havnt come across them in 6.4 yet, but i bet it still works. Put inf in square ranks, ie deep formation, so they can swamp chariots. Terrain also important, chariots hate rocks/obstructions, put ur troops behind/adj to them. You also get a bonus from skirm troops agaist chariots [JAVS], but u need about 3 per chariot to be effective. And finally the britons have low armor, so use plenty of archers, 1st use fire on chariots, then engage inf with inf, then hook ur archers around the flanks and put some arrows from behind [always try to hook left, as shields are held in left hand by enemy, thatway they are unshielded.

When I reach britain I'll probably make up my legions like so:

1 general
10 cohorts
3 barbarian noble cavalry
3 barbarian skirmishers or light auxila
3 archer auxilia

Truly if you using premarius you need to read the houase rules and maybe you will live. I also suggest taking the game slower or your going to have some massive revolts.
