Allow me to direct you to my screenshot gallery, most of the pictures are from SPQR, and they are all unedited battle screenshots:

Well this is the state of my current campaign in 6.4... I have a strong allied neighbour - Dacia which is fighting Germania and I have pushed back Gaul re-taking the Po Valley... Carthage has been expelled from Italy and the Greek Cities have taken Sicily. I have 4 legions guarding the northen border and another 4 legions being prepared to invade Sicily. I'm at peace with everybody else but Gaul

Macedon and Seleucid have been eliminated and the Greek Cities are one step closer to be expelled from Greece into Anatolia by Dacia. This is the first time I have witnessed Dacia becoming a superpower and fighting off Macedons, Germans and Greeks

After taking Sicily I may try to take some Greek cities in Greece helping out my allies, the Dacians... I hope they (my allies) take it easy

I noticed this thread was sinking to the bottom so I thought I'd give it a boost.

The year is 203 BC. After having to restart from a very successful campaign, I hope to do things differently and start off right.

As of now, I have eight legions stationed on my northern borders. After a seesaw diplomatic experience with the Gauls, I've made them pay for their aggression by taking two cities, Nicaea and Mediolanum, for much cheaper than what they wanted. In fact, I took Mediolanum while the Gauls came to me demanding Nicaea back.

My empire will grow once my treasury recovers from my purchases. I will recruit three more legions and take Caralis and Sicily. Then I will expand into Spain from the South and cut off Carthage from their mines while the two legions in the west, along with a fresh one, will push west to connect Italy and Spain. From there I can invade Carthage and then into Greece. By then my legions should be stronger and more experienced.

A map of my Republic so far, along with some campaign info:

About the Romanization, it's a House Rule I imposed on myself where I would not expand from a territory until the town became a city that had a stone wall, a legion-like garrison, all tier 3 military buildings, a large temple of Jupiter, and an academy. The garrison would stay that way until the city is pacified and the borders are safe then I would disband the units and replace them with town guard. I haven't been able to put the policy to practice yet but I will let you guys know how it works out.

Let's keep the pics and stories coming, it's a good discussion topic.

It's 195 bc and things are looking ugly.

South: I killed Anibal in my first battle. Then took Taras. Greeks took my citiy in Sicily. I send 3 legions to Sicily and conquered it all. Also took Caralis. Peace with Greece, war with Carthage. My plan was to invade North African Carthage but...

North: I lost Genua and Arminium to Gaul but my single northern legion was reinforced in the crucial battle by a new Hastati legion and one Senate Army so I retook hte cities. Gaul was kept at bay, the frontier guarded by 3 legios. But Germans took Mediolanum and Patavium to Gaul, and I sent the army to the north in order to take the cities. It was Varus revisited. I lost hte three legions in four damn hard battles against the germans. Rome in panic, Italy shocked. But 4 new legions were raised in Italy and the two from Sicily went to the north. The massive army of six legions took Mediolanum and Patavium to Germany after some really tough and huge battles involving 4-5 stacks each. Rome rules.

I have been defending the north from psicotic German attacks during 4-6 years now. Gaul has been defeated by Germany, and Macedonia by the damn Greeks. Carthage is calm and doesn't attack me but i can't attack them now as the north is the main front...

Looks like a dark -germanic- future is coming. But tons of fun.

Oh, btw, I think the Marian reforms will occur in a few years. Time to reverse fortune will come, and Rome will be able to roll over all of Europe her iron fist... and take full revenge from Carthaginians and Germans...

Carthage is looking a bit mad, you should start building some sewers and temples.

And for future references. you don't say "Gaullic armies," it's "Gallic Armies".

Well, I just started and within a few hours, I killed Carthage out of Italy and I brought Gaul to it's knees, well, atleast in the italian Penninsula. I am starting to worry about Greece, It is building a huge army in Sicily and literally, their armies are staring right at me.

The year is 198 (yay for 11 turns spent while forgetting the script...*sob*)

I have 3 legions in Northern Italy patrolling the border with the Gauls. The cowards begged me for a ceasefire after a single legion defeated 3 Gallic armies in 2 years.

Central Italy is basking in a period of economic growth. Ever since the defeat of Carthage in Southern Italy during the early months of 215BC the region has been at peace.

Sicily was conquered 2 years ago by two fresh legions. Together they crushed 5 Greek armies in 2 years, although mercenaries were doing most of the fighting in the end.

My navies have been suffering setback after setback. Entire armadas of warships had been sunk by the pirates that roam the straights between Italy and Greece. Two expeditionary sent to pillage the rich cities of the Greeks were met with unprecedented resistance. After 3 years of fighting, the combined Roman presence has dwindled to less than 600 Romans. They have retreated as far as they could. If transports do not reach them in time, they will never see their homeland again.

Of course, I'll have to restart the campaign after adding the anti-superpower and semi-auto script patches~

    My repuplic so far:

    Version: SPQR 6.4
    Difficulty: M/M
    Year: 194 BC
    Provinces: 27
At war with: Germans, Gauls, Carthagians, Thracians, Greeks
    Pre-marian units...

For kill count take a look at my signature...
After a battle i write down the killed enemies.
For my own looses, i subtract the survived men from the starting men ( if i have won the battle ).
If i have lost it, i just use the number of men, the enemy defeated, to show that the enemy will kill all my wounded men.
i think this is the most accurate way of kill counting...

    Overview:

    The way I play:

On the Battlefield i play without Banners and green arrows on, i also disabled unit information ( STRG + F2 ) and have the restricted cam view.
I think this is the most realistic way.

I'm using the house rules, except:

No. 25 ( i just fight manually against full stack armies or armies with more than 12 units )
and ...of course... No. 33 =)

I also changed rule no. 11:

    Destroy all barbarian buildings.

Destroy all hellenic/eastern/punic military, culture and religious buildings.
Don’t destroy economic ( market, harbour ) or health buildings ( canalisation ), except public baths.

I also added a few one:

    1. Only build the colosseum in rome and never use gladiators in battles.

    2. Don’t let your troops stay in cities until the cities are rioting. Put them in a fort in front of it instead. Use town watch or urban cohorts as garrison.

    3. During the winter season every army has to stay in a fort. NO battles during winter seasons if this can be avoided ( never attack! )

    4. Try to trigger the marian reforms as late as possible but before 107 BC ( so you have to build the first Imperial palace before 122 BC ).

    5. Try to delay the civil war as much as possible but at least spring 49 BC and before your empire exceeds the roman empire around 50 BC.

    6. After the Senate is destroyed and you are the emperor, start to build the imperial legionary cohorts and reform all legions.

    7. Try to keep the borders of ancient rome.

    8. Just take fruitfully provinces, no deserst etc.

    Now a few pictures:

German front ( heavy fights ):

Gallic front ( very peaceful ):

    Thracian Front:

    West:

North ( defeated them here ):

I had more trouble with the 2nd merc army of carthage than hannibal's army. once the elephants was fighting and killed off, that army with 1 cavalry was cake. 2nd army has way more, and for some reason the AI was not commiting them while the skirmishers+ the merc units ate away at my hasti units, then the AI use it to kill my cavalry when I finally committed my own, it was brilliant, I have to said I was surprise. I used the 2 experience army under the faction leader, so that might have been the reason. I got heroic from hannibal with 640 casualties. 2nd battle I suffered 1100 or so,

is it just me or are barbarian + noble cavalries own? after the first 2 battles I am using exclusively merc cavalries. but damn they are expensive. they help alot in keeping my denarii pile down.

it is a good mod. i think u'd like it though. cuz hannibal starts off in Italy. so you have free reign to just torture the romans in their own house.
