    Icon3 Post Your v.6.4 Empire (w/ Screenshots)

    Hello Dear SPQR Fans,

How does your new games go? There was a similar post I enjoyed a lot but since v.6.4 is a little bit different I thought we can share our games - I love to read about other people's progress.

My game is progressing a bit slowly but I definitely enjoy the new and improved game experience. Well done LT and many thanks. Below is some info & a screenshot from my game.

In the beginning, I gave up Messana by strategy and moved all forces camped here to south Italy. I removed any possible force from every Italian city, which made up a new lightweight legion. Thus I had 1 good, 1 normal, plus 1 lightweight legion in the South to oppose Carthagians.

With these 3 armies I managed to completely destroy Carthagian expeditionary force in South Italy and capture their only city in a few turns (it was bloody). Meanwhile I managed to hold Gauls w/o giving up any cities in the north, but economy was bad, I had -5000 denarii at this point.

PS: This is my 2nd v.6.4 game and in my first I was able to destroy Carthagians in the south. And finally after many turns I managed to re-invade initial Roman cities in the north but in this game I was out of human resources in the north. With this experience in my 2nd game I did not give battle to Gauls without having a full army (20 unit). I think this helped a lot. Again in my second game, this time Gauls were out of human resources (after losing 40.000) and this helped a lot. I felt sort of like Caeasar

As soon as Carthagians are destroyed I moved all armed forces to North, after this it was easy to hold Gauls at bay & build up economy. After a while I captured their 4 cities at the north.

After several battles with Gauls in the north they are now severely beaten and don't even attack me lately.

Now I finally built Governer's Palace & Provincial Barracks in several cities in Italy & levied 4 new & full legions with Principes & Triarii. (before I was using hastati/velitees/slingers/equites legions - it is possible to win with these but needs micro management in the battle and casualties is too high). And if the enemy has a full army (4000+ man I may even lose).

Now year is 204 BC and nearly in 10 years I have a secure position. My killsheet reads:

    ///////////////////////////
    Total Enemy Killed: 57433
    (Top two: Gauls 42668 & Carthagians 11004)
    Romans Killed: 12367
Kill Ratio: 4.64 Enemy per Roman
    ///////////////////////////

Now I built my first legions, 4 at once:

1 newly built legion is sieging Carali.
3 other newly built legions camped in the north, securing north, west & east (see screenshot @
    http://good-times.webshots.com/photo...01577957ywTVhS
). Now I think North is secured...
Just wondering how many legions (and aux legions if you use any) do you camp in the north before going after Sardinia/Sicily/Carthage?

After Carali is conquered, as soon as possible I'll levy enough number of Town Watch units to garrison here. Then the conquering legion will camp near Reghion and wait for 3 other legions to be levied. Then all these four will invade Sicily at once, 3 legions sieging 3 Greek cities on the same turn, and 4th legion will destroy the Greek field army in Sicily.

I plan not to give Greeks any chance to levy new troops in Sicily. Even if they send help from mainland Greece my 4th legion will destroy it without it reaches any cities.

After securing Sicily I'll start invasion of Carthago & the city south of it with Sicily conquering legions. (oh don't forget Palma too, it's tiny but strategically important. It should be ready for Spanish invasion - I mean many many turns later after North Africa is completely invaded).

My long term plan is to give a break at this position and improve the economy and maybe get an Imperial Palace.

I'd like to have your comments about mine and on your own games. Thank you.

AND I LOVE THIS GAME, THANKS AGAIN LT!

I'm in 210 and after winning a stunning defeat, every roman took 3 gauls with him and the retreated orderly.
    The gauls asked for peace.
By abandoning two southern cities and ganging up on the carthigian armies and seige taras (rebel) untill they sallied out.
I now have good econemy and two legions heading to libyeam (sp) via sea

lol I just started myself. I defeated Hannibal though with 810 lost to his 3870, I still have to fight the Merc army with the other legion as I dont think the same one can win. I buily Walls for all the cities Threatened, and hope to build a new governor building in Capua which has the population enough from the start of the game. This is just turn 1 for me. lol

Good luck Alatar & LT. Be careful with the Gauls, they do nasty things on the North while you're cleaning Carthagians. lol

Garnier I see your point about going after Greece but it means a long supply line - which is not tempting for me.

I know how boring it is to fight stack after stack (I experienced this mostly against Macedonians). With my limited experience, my strategy was to attack several cities at once, this lowers numbers of full-stack (repeating) battles greatly.

In my game now it's 201 BC Summer and my expeditionary force is ready to start the invasion of Sicily.

I noticed something, which is new to me. When Greeks saw my expeditionary force on-board they recruited many units in two cities, Messana and Syracusa.

    Is this a v.6.4 feature?

I've been watching this island for more than 15 turns and I am pretty sure that they did not have more than 2-3 units in any of the cities until this turn, when they saw my ships with full stacks of soldiers inside.

If it's new, I liked this, more challenging. If it's old, shame that I didn't notice earlier lol.

    Overview:

Hmm still I'm coming for you clever AI

And Garnier how can you add pictures directly in the post, when I do that instead of the image I get a "Forbidden" message from webshots servers. Thanks.

When I invaded sicily, about 4 greek armies came by boat to stop me. It was tough, but we beat them off eventually.

    Anyway, in my campaign..

    Its 202 BC

I've taken Sicily and two greek cities so far. I want to hurt greece as much as possible before invading carthage, because Greece otherwise will probably end up wiping out thrace and germany, which would be annoying, and also I am sick of fighting greeks because in my last campaign, they had half the map and endless stacks.

Here are the pictures of my position:
Northern Italy, I plan to take mediolanum and patavium when I get republican legionaries which is a long way off. So I'm just sitting there defending til then. I may take Nicea or something with premarius.

    Sicily:
I bought Lilybeon from Carthage, so I never had to fight carthage in sicily. I fought many armies of greece there though. The carthaginians will never leave... I will have to kill them when I take Carali.

    Greece:
I bit off more than I could chew when I invaded greece with four legions. I have taken two cities, and bolstered my legions with mercenaries, but one legion is more than half destroyed, so I decided not to hire mercenaries for it. I think I'll disperse its troops to the other legions to replace losses.
There will be a very long and bloody war ahead. I hope to cripple Greece though, so they don't expand too much.
I have one legion on the way, and two more being recruited to come and help speed the war up. I've fought fifteen major battles against the greeks so far.

And here is my financial situation:
As you can see, I am quite rich. I'm going to send quintus julius down to hire some elephants for the war in greece. I always like to have mercenary elephants with me when I can, although they do cost a fortune. I'll probably also hire some spartans when I take sparta.

Fast progress from many ive only taken Taras, Carali and Carthage so far. Tho as i was stupid i only enslaved the city of carthage lost it to rebels retook it and destroyed everyone in it. I have to say heavy african mercs are nice eye candy

Ive lost one legion at sea with my most promising general, damn pirates. Hmm might go for greeks as garnier said, they seem to get very powerfull early on in the game. Time for greeks to taste roman steel.....

LT every time I check this forum I look for new stickies, they help a lot thanks.

About the last post: I didn't think that garrison script can trigger from the sea, every day I learn something new. lol

Samariten bad luck. I don't like to leave it to luck so most times I embark man on the ships and disembark them in the same turn. You can move a little bit less but you don't lose a single man, that's a good trade off I suppose...

I got a Major problem, I have the main land of italy+sicily+calais and my military ranking is 7 milj. The gaul's is 6 milj, the german's is 10 milj, and the greek cities's is 24(!) milj. And they are allies with each other and attacking me from all fronts. How can I possibly win?
