Everyone is attacking me!

I am playing my first campaign as Sicily and I am playing turn 60 and I have 6 provinces. For the past 20-30 turns though I have been incapable of expanding as my enemies are constantly attacking me.

I don't mind having a hard time, but not this hard of a time. The HRE keep sending full stacks down to Naples (don't they have enough to do up in the north??), the milanese & HRE keep most of my ports blockaded, and the spanish, portuguese and moors keep sending stacks to Cagliari and Tunis. Since almost all of my ports keep getting blockaded, my financial situation is slowly going down the drain. I can only train a few units per turn now.

Now looking at the diplomatic situation I can see that most factions aren't even at war with each other. The HRE is allied with all of its neighboring factions and is only at war with me. The Moors & Portuguese & Spanish are all allied with each other and are all only at war with me (!!). The Milanese are also allied with my enemies and are only at war with me. A couple of times I have already become a vassal of HRE, but they always besiege me anyway within a couple of turns.

It seems that the AI is only attacking the human player. Anyone else had these kind of troubles?

There are several things you could do..

My suggestion is to attack your enemies. If you have the available force go and sack a nearby city. It would give your economy an infusion of wealth with which you can build up a navy or develop your land economy. Also if the HRE is coming down through Italy, try to ally yourself with the pope and try to get as many alliances and ceasefires as possible. Be willing to spend a little to get them.

You obviously either play vanilia, or are on medium/easy. To have that many provinces that fast leads to a wrecked reputation with all diplomacy in the garbage. To full out blitz the AI is considered by some to be fullblow cheating, which it is sometimes. You MUST give the AI time to build up and expand slowly in the begining because it just can't compete. Unless you want a dirt easy campaigns like the ones you play that is.

Sorry, but frankly I don't even see how that is possible. That would require taking a province nearly every single turn, and every single settlement in the map, with the exception of odd pairs like Florence and Bologna, is at least two turns apart from the nearest neighbor; plus, you have to include the minimum third turn to build siege equipment, because unless you are Russia, every single settlement you encounter will have walls. And even then, you will have to take time to build up troops at some point, because taking that many provinces will seriously spread out your armies, and you will certainly run out of mercenaries to hire after one or two turns on the march. And even then, you are nearly garanteed to have to fight the enemy in a field battle once in a while, which will slow down your march even further. And then, if you somehow manage to be that aggressive, you are sure to to be excommunicated, which will result in, at some point, multiple AI's attacking you, meaning you have to spend resources, time, and men to defend your cities. Put that all together, and it's nearly impossible to have more than 15-25 provinces by turn 60, baring some fluke, playing in a sandbox-like very easy/very easy environment, or cheating.

That's what I'm suspecting now too. I'm not allied with very many factions factions, but the AI is. Once one faction declared war on me, all the allied factions did too. Oh well, I'll try again with another campaign.

y dont you go and report it to the pope about the HRE
(give them a allience to Papal mate or atleast a few 1000g and map infos that will increase the relationship with papal and next time when HRE attack they will get lower so you can tactically call the crusade on HRE faction then the HRE Allied factions will go against it!!!! trust me this is how i do ) as long as you have pupet Pope with you you can rock the world (dont forget that pope the jhone paul the ii scared the hell out of the Soviets gov in poland long time ago)

Its hard to make alliances early if you start with a faction that has bad military on the game. Thats my problem often that i get my first alliances in about 30 turns. and i got just the same problem that HRE attacks me even he could attack Venice which is the worst faction currently, why the **** to attack on mighty milan who you are allied with when you could attack on weak venice who has no allies.
I think that its no coincidence that AI seems to attack always to human player even when human is best or the worst currently and that aint fun.

Well i suggest that you try to survive and get popes favor to get the others excommunicated then ¨declare a crusade and whole europe goes against them. Popes favor should be easy if you dont attack to anyone.
But try to still attack if its possible.

Same problem as the moors. I managed to ally with spain but spain broke their alliance when portugal attacked, allied with portugal, and finally attacked me. France soon followed. In the east, mostly at Tunis, all the italian cities + byzantium empire are attacking tunis. I was able to hold a long time, won quite a few heroic battles but finally the city fell to the pope. The city barely went a turn without being sieged in the entire time, I should have had kept it a fortress and turned algiers(?) into a city instead or maybe just kept them both forts. In spain I've knocked out portugal whom have migrated to western france and england(wtf) but France has zangoza and they were able to actually push a bit into my holdings before I pushed them back. In total I have no alliances and am at war with 9 countries - spain making it 8. No one wants to ally with me and they all hate me even though I hadn't attacked anyone

Sorry I haven't fell since I was a toddler. wtf a wheelchair??! lol. Have you even read what you wrote?

And I said he lost, only because it's his first time. I'm sure he will be more agressive next time and will win no problem and never lose again.

As for me, I lost one campaign, the very first campaign I played in RTW. After that trial I've never come close, just like everyone else.

I had this problem my advice is to go on the offensive and take their cities. Massacre the whole population always and then if you can't hold it raze every building in the city, and then set the taxes to very high to cause rebel revolts. This happened to me when I was playing as Venice I was at war with everyone but Venice is rather easy to defend theres only so many passes through the Alps and to get to Venice you have to cross a bridge, which the AI no matter how many units they have can never take from me. I started off by destroying Sicily then one by one I simply outpaced them all in Millitary and Production.

Also start training assassins and train up atleast one or two into 10 star ones, then run around and kill all the their commanders. Also when you are defending a castle NEVER DEFEND AT THE WALLS. Place all your units into your inner most keep this is almost a guaranteed victory because the AI is extremely stupid and will run around and be massacred by your towers.

If you ever decide to fight the Pope which if you follow my plan on 400+ years of constant war, take Rome, then naturally there will be Crusades from every single nation trying to take it back, however there is only two ways to Rome, the direct path down Italy has a bridge which is easily defend, failling that the AI can go around the Apennines and come from behind. This can take up to several turns and you can block the AI on the Adriatic coast. As long as you watch out for amphibious landings the AI won't ever take Rome. Again if it does seem like you might lose it, raze the city to the ground and incite revolts.

Try to take all of Italy , minus The Holy See of course, get the pope on your side, try to crusade heathen or Excomunicated enemies. hold the Alps against the Germans etc build up a navy, youre in the middle of the Mare Internum you'll need one

Eventually everyone will be your enemy. Keeping strong allies at the beginning delays the inevitable. Also if your new Sicily is hard to play even for a veteran. I would try playing England or for non Catholic maybe Egypt I think these two have an easier start at the beginning so should allow you some time to relax and get into the campaign.
