Default How does M2:TW perform on 8800GTS?

    Hi, guys
Sorry if this was already discussed, or the topic is in the wrong subforum, I just couldn't find any useful info ......

What I'd like to know is, how much sense does it make to upgrade my 1950Pro to an 8800GTS?

Also does video card memory size matter in this game, i.e. will there be a huge difference b/n the 8800GTS 640/320MB models?

    I play at 1680x1050
    CPU: Core2 Duo @ 3.15GHz
    RAM: 4GB

Thanx in advance for any tips, I just can't get it!! no hardware reviews site ever posts any benchmarks of Medieval 2, so this forum's my only hope

are you unsatisfied with how your 1950 is performing with m2 right now? or have you not gotten the game yet?

i honestly shouldn't think that the 1950 would have any trouble with the game at near max settings.

Im playin with a GTX 8800 with everything maxed out and 1920x1200 and never had a drop in frame rate not even in cities. I think resolution is the key, if you plan on playing on a high one then the upgrade might be the key to get that and keep the game at a playable framerate. I can tell you that you can really notice the diference when you increase it, its not just cosmetics so I would always set it to the max your monitor allows.

The other thing that requires a lot of graphics is grass, which takes a lot of process but it looks really great and it really improves the screen captures!

I suppose one has to weight the pros and cons of setting the graphic stuff down or upgrading. I can tell that it really makes a great difference in game from playing with the stuff maxed out, I mean you actually see the diference not just get like 5 more FPS or something which although people love it to talk about that in benchmarks IMHO it doesnt mean anything. I just got some captures in DLV that I still dont believe are actual in game screen shots, they look more like the usual direct x demo or somethin. To me that was worth upgrading my silent 7600, but its true that I had to work a month to get the new beef and that really hurts!

There will not any significant diff. between the 320 and the 640 8800GTS.
On any game to date actually (that I know of), however if you have the extra cash, why not make an investment for future games?

The game will perform better on an 8800GTS than a 1950, but not extremley much.

Would make alot of sense to me, since then you'd be running on an nVidia card. (Yes, I am biased)

Oh. and this belongs in the Basement

The GTS is slightly underpowered at the moment, whether or not driver updates will fix that I do not know, but at the moment it's barely more powerful than a 1950Pro in DX9 applications.

Anyway, I believe MTW2 cares more about your Processor than Graphics card. But don't quote me on that

Yes, I have lag on my 1950Pro on scenes with castle sieges f.e. or with high vegetation

Can someone with 8800 post his video settings?
