    Default request for more objects as ancillaries

    i've been reading around and just downloaded TLR. and i've read about a feature in another mod that could be welcome to TLR as well. i'm talking about swords. does DlV have "rights" or "patents" on swords? cause stuff like swords, daggers, shields, helms, hammers , axes, armor, warhammers... those would add to the experiece would that be possible?

    Firstly, it would require re-modeling every unit in the game. Secondly, it's a terrible idea.

    Well, I donīt agree that is a bad idea, infact we are working on it, I also believe hetejada meant equipment as ancillearies that can be handed down the line.

    What I haven't decided on, is how you will acquire them. Ideas?

    WaZaaa!!!

    Well, an interesting idea, hentejada, which made me thought of a reply to the talented tornnight's post : I guess you can always have it that a general may already possess an ancillary or two at the beginning of the campaign if it is at least imaginably the case that a general may have had it e.g. an English King owning King Arthur's long lost sword ; or, if possible, then perhaps you could define certain triggers for which can allow a general to possess, e.g. one of the Prophet's sword that was somehow, if he stays a specified number of turns in a region like in Turkey or Egypt :hmmm:...

    Well, that's the best I could think of at the mo...

    Hope that helps and Peaceage

    In DLV conquering certain regions granted the character a "historical" sword that was famous in that area.

    I liked the "Fine Suit of Armor" that was an ancillary in 1.2 vanilla. Would it be possible to have an ancillary like "Militray Training Manual" (with different authors for different factions) that gives the troops in that general's army a faster rate of experience gain?

    Conquering regions is a good idea. But that would mean we need some references for historical swords in less talked about places like eastern europe and the middle east.

    hmmmmm......well it would not be nice to rip off DLV so it looks like we need to do some research, wikipedia here I come, well maybe, that sounds kinda like work, errgg.....focus, focus

    Perhaps, if its possible to set triggers up like this, have the sword/ armour / shield etc. be granted upon getting a clear victory in that province. It woudl be a very unique way of granting the ancillery and make some quite hard to get - woudl also get people to stop ignoring the rebels that loiter around in yoru territory at the start!

    You could consider the general being granted the item by the town's master smithy etc. as thanks for rebelling the invaders or for bringing the town into the new realm

    is a cool ideea. there is no need to search for historical swords all over internet. it can rely on the historical background of some regions, like Damascus. What about a trigger: if a general builds an armory in Damascus, he will be granted a fine steel blade, which gives him a +1 attack. or something like that.

    I like how it can be passed down, really. Helps make families more important instead of a bunch of generals for a country.

    My suggestion, and I really back it, is not stop with weapons and armour.

    How about more things like the arc? Maybe historical artifacts as well such as, for example, a piece of the holy bible (adds +1 piety).

    One artifact could be the holy spear (the one that impaled Christ) that was fought over a lot in eastern europe.

    Famous people during the time should be added too, like RTW. I always thought it was cool to have Pluto as a follower.

    Banners as well, and act just like crowns due now. For example after a few victories a general gets a non removable basic soldier's flag (+1 morale), after a couple more victories he gets an upgraded armies flag (+1 morale, +1 popularity), after many more victories he gets the crowns flag (+2 morale, +2 popularity, +1 dread [for fighting and killing so many people]).

    As for the person saying you need to make new models for all these ancillaries, not so you just have to roleplay a bit and pretend that your general is wielding a +2 warhammer of smiting ;P

    Saladin's sword has to be added without question

    As for acquiring them, thats hard to choose since all have perks and draw backs, personally I would go for a combination of conquering cities and meeting certain requirements with say a %5 chance each turn.

    Like crusading and conquering Jerusalem nets you a piece of the true cross.

    What I would like to know is if you defeat/kill an enemy general is it possible to acquire his ancillary? That would defiantly be handy.

    WOW!!!!! i was discouraged after reading the 1st reply to my post but as i scrolled down... WOW!!! i'm overjoyed that my suggestion is being welcomed by tornnight and acegogo!!! and other readers here. i will definitely stick around. it will be a pleasure to have those additions because i believe so many artifacts were of signicance back in Medieval times.

    as for ideas on how to get them, it seems other readers have good ideas already.
    * from battles vs. other generals/factions
    * from conquering some cities/castles
    * inherited from family members (who won it from some place/person)
    * from guilds?
    * from smiths?
    * from knight orders?
    * meeting certain requirements?
    * coming into age with "x" artifact/ancillary
    * faction heads/ heirs and members starting the new Grand Campaign with artifacts already

    and yes, other artifacts or ancillaries would be fulfilling, too.. like maybe...
    the dead sea scrolls?
    other scrolls from the bible?
    koran?
    favorite shirt? lol
    ear of slain general? lol (diablo, anyone?)
    surgeon? ... increased %chance of reviving injured/killed units

    im dreaming in wait. thanks guys.

    Actually there are a bunch of items that you can acquire by taking settlements.

    You just have to have enough piety.

    Antioch, Aleppo, Jerusalem, Constantinople, Tripoli, Edessa, and others.

    yup, but MORE is GOOD. so is it an idea you're considering/implementing?

    interesting, that was one thing I enjoyed about DLV, my favorite swords would continue to be passed down to the prince/king, and choice generals, giving them an age even at a young age. It would be nice however if there were items that could have wider ranging affect, i.e. religous conversion, economy, etc.

    also, is it possible to give a general a trait or ancillary that would give a town an extra recruitment slot only while they are present. For example, "Crack Trainer" or hopefully something that sounds cooler,

    or

    Allow a trait like, "good at levying troops" which allows a general to hire a certain type of merc unit in the field no matter what province they are in. I'm almost sure these last two ideas aren't moddable but just some thoughts.

    Ideas for acquisition of coolio type relics:
    (low level potential for success)
    1. random result from spy successfully infiltrating a foreign capitol city.
    2. random result from diplomatic negotiation which was either excessively generous on the player's part or barely acceptable on the AI's part.
    3. sacking of the capitol city of the nation originally owning the item.
    4. Killing and/or capturing every man on the battlefield of the AI army carrying the artifact/relic (even one single surviver would carry it away to safety)
    5. "accidentally" finding it by sending a lone general into a province of a hostile faction. Random percent chance per full turn general spends in the enemy faction lands.

    Oh, yeah, forgot. the items, if found by spy or dip, should go to the spy or dip until that spy or dip "hands it over" to the proper general by being in the same stack and the player doing the drag and drop.

    TORN,

    IMO I think an outstanding way to implement the aquisition of some of these items, in addition to the ways they will currently be introduced is through missions. If scripting permits, one could be undertaking a mission which would result in an item being sent to the capital, or possibly faction leader for distribution to a general of choice. This would work to enhance the game on many levels as it would make missions more exciting "Search for Holy Grail", or some other artifact. In addition the various types of guild houses might have a chance to cue certain specific missions, and would heighten the importance of the various choices. I think the frequency of missions needs to be ramped up and such an increase with entertaining missions would add flavor and depth to the game.
