Does anyone else want this series back real badly?

Ever since I saw Serenity and got hooked on the series afterwards I kept hearing about a massive underground population of fans that have been trying to get the series started back up again pretty consistently.

For all those who are ignorant to Firefly or Serenity here's a quick Wiki link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_%28TV_series%29

The series wasn't horrible, but I can see why at the time it would've gotten canceled in 2002. Partly I don't think the time was right or even the selected audience type was right (it appeared on Fox)...Yet, the film (released in 2005) breathed some fresh air into the characters and really had shown how much the actors had improved in their abilities - thus taking the whole Firefly story in Serenity to a whole new level.

I really wish they'd bring this series back...or at least make another film at the least. There's alot of potential here.

Firefly was the 2nd-best (after reimagined BSG) science-fiction TV series ever made (or half-made, since the first season wasn't even finished), and the suited corporate retards who cancelled it are going to go to Hell for it.

But it won't come back. It's too late. The movie killed off two characters, and Summer Glau (River) probably doesn't even look like a teenage girl anymore. The movement is over and done with.

    Firefly:
Ah yes. A universe in which 90% of the human population live on a variety of worlds exactly like the North American Midwest. This in of itself isn't necessarily bad, but people are dependent on horses for transportation, Winchester rifles and revolvers for self defense and almost universally wear dusters or bonnets (sometimes a combination of both). That being said, the show did have its moments. Unfortunately they mostly only occured in those brief moments when Captain "Mal" decided to not speak.

It's not really surprising it was cancelled when you consider the predominant tendencies towards aetheism, general negative view towards religion, lesbian sex scene, free use of unfamilial words (such as whore) and the fact that a bible was logically analyzed, scientifically reduced to its material components and finally physically defaced.

Objects in Space was a great episode though. Jubal Early was a fantastic character and should have his own show.

Firefly was great, I'm sorry they cancelled it. That's the way it goes with sci fi on Fox though, it gets a season, and then no more.

It seems to be mostly Sci Fi shows they cancel that way. Other good shows they ride into the sunset i.e. Married...With Children, Simpsons, w/e.

My girlfriend introduced me to the show and its really good, just not sure how it could be introduced, I thought the series had the cast down perfectly but the film ended up killing two of the crew, and revealing the whole secret about Summer.

If they did make another film it should be about the Reavers, could be called Reaver Dance......... ok sorry, apologies to Fallout Tactics fans to for stealing the joke.

I loved Firefly. Great show with great writing. Compared to all the crap out there, it was nice to have a gem like this come along.

One a side note I learned the theme song on guitar a few months back hehe. It's really fun to play.

"And I have felt the sudden blow of a nameless wind's cold breath,
And watched the grisly pilgrims go that walk the roads of Death,
And I have seen black valleys gape, abysses in the gloom,
And I have fought the deathless Ape that guards the Doors of Doom."

While I did like Firefly... which is on Scifi now isn't it? I'm still mad about Space: Above and Beyond. My whole family used to pull all the shades, turn off all the lights, get together in the living room and watch that and it was so dark that it really felt like you were in space... sighs... damnable fox

    Amen to that!

I loved this show too. The people at Fox are bastards.

And the show probably wont be back as a series, as the creator has already said hes unwilling to work with Fox again after all the **** they put them through for filming and cancelling it the first time around

Quoted For Truth. Best sci-fi show ever, on par with Babylon 5 or maybe even better. Mal is probably the manliest guy ever filed for TV. This is what shows are supposed to be like.

EDIT: you all may take Kaylee and Inara, but I'll take Sapphron.

EDIT: I don't think Battlestar Galactica comes anywhere near close to Firefly. Fluffy fancy graphics, fine, but the show's so depressing, and everyone's a miserable wretch in it, while every single Firefly character is noble and upright in his own way, Mal being foremost from among them.

I admit, I found Mal downright hilarious at times, even enjoyable. But any time he had anything more to say than a one liner, or simply tried to talk tough, it was all I could do to not laugh myself silly. Nathan Fillion is simply not a good actor, or perhaps simply lacks the physical requirements necessary to be a badass smuggler and mercenary.

No but I think you misunderstood his character. he's not supposed to be badass mercenary in any way. He's this idealistic man thrown in dire and gloomy circumstances, who still carves out a piece of mind for himself, and fiercely refuses to give up his independence and surrender completely.

He's not some evil criminal or crook turned into a sci-fi leading man, he's an idealistic hero struggling to get through the world with his principles intact. Given that, I think Nathan Fillion played his naivette, almost childish innocence, coupled with surface toughness, perfectly.

You misunderstand. His idealism isn't the issue; it is lifestyle of his character and the way in which it requires a certain... hardness. How many times in the short series did Mal have to stare down Jayne or some other baddie? How many times did he have to threaten somebody and even kill them? In all those times, did he ever convince me that he was anything other than a bad actor? The answer is "No."

Fillion makes for a good, boyish love interest in some evening sitcom, but a smuggler-mercenary (and he is a mercenary) captain that has seen the horrors of war and the worst humanity has to offer? No. The same goes for Zoe as well, but that's okay because she is practically a foil character anyway.

Yeah - I know it'll never fly as a show again but what about another film? With some good writing and story it could def work around the fact that Wash was killed and River's problem was kind of figured out.

2 crew members died? I don't recall two of them dying...Wash yeah but Shepard Book wasn't apart of the crew anymore.

One thing I think that drives people like me to want the series back is the fact that so many doors were left open and so many questions were left unanswered. For instance throughout the TV series they always hinted at Shepard Book's past but never really revealed anything about it - it seemed like it was working and building its way up to something BIG...then the show stopped.
on just the way they did things, unique style, unique atmosphere, was fun to watch-- sad its gone
Personally I prefer the whole "non-alien" space thing...it seems more realistic that way. Like it's real life....only thousands of years in the future. That and mixing the Western and Sci-Fi themes was done excellently I thought.

I too like the way the setting was done. But the bit that made the show great was obviously the characters. They're all pretty likable for one reason or another. And some are just plain awesome (ie Mal, you cant deny it).

    Ps. Inara/Morena Baccarin is hot
