    Default CTD on End Turn

    I've been boggled by this problem I have with one of my campaigns. I've been getting CTDs on the End Turn button, and I don't know why. I have show_err enabled, and the only modding I did for the mod is to change the number of men in a cavalry unit to 160 for Romans, that's it. Other than that, it's a clean install.

    I'm on 1.10a patch, and I can't fix this problem. Is this known to happen, and if so how do you fix it?

    If anyone needs my savegame to try to fix it, just post here.

    Don't knowif 160 is possible, but nevertheless, that shouldn't be a reason for a CTD of that kind. I had the same problem, but that was because I messed up a family tree (make sure all names are correct, or you can get CTD after CTD without knowing why)

    160 cavalry is quite possible, considering a lot of the Barbarians have 160 cavalry per unit, you can have up to 240 if you wanted it to...

    What do you mean about "messing up a family tree", how'd you deal with that?

    I used names belonging to the wrong faction. And if all the names are wrong, it CTDs without error, which can be quite confusing when you're 100% sure the names are correct ;P

    I'm having the same issue. Whenever i end turn at summer of 234BC, boom a CTD. The only drastic thing I did was destroy a Pergamum fleet which contained a huge army and then I took over Mytilene. Not really sure if this has to do with anything... Help please

    160 is possible to have in game, but in the EDU file the most men per unit you can put is 60, you will get a hard CTD if you put more then that number.

    Yeah I know you can't put "160" in the .txt file itself, but I play on Huge scale, so "40" is the number in the .txt file to multiply by four, 40 x 4 = 160 men in a unit.

    As for the other responses, thanks guys, I'm gonna try this! This campaign is really deep into the time now, I'll hate if it were to be wasted.

    i had this problem also a lot of times! but i found it out why it crashes and how to fix it! the end turn ctds only happen if you build or update a unit in a city where you update the building you build the unit with. i dont know if this is correct... sorry my english isnt so good... so ill give you better an xample:

    city: patavium

    you build some cavalry there and in the same turn you update your building from "hippodrome" to "circus_maximus" !

    ... thats the reason while it crashes! this happens also only sometimes! i had this 'end turn' ctd a lot of time and bite every time in my keyboard ... so i searched for the problem and found out if you cancel your unit creation/update in that city for that turn now it works again!

    also if you got an family member that crashes after you clicked on him. wait some turns ... (i.e. 10 turns) ... and try it later again. i noticed that after some turns it works normal again!

    hope this helps you and all the others to manage this ctd's a little! and ofcoz the dev team to solve this problem in the next patch/hotfix?!

    Well ill be a monkeys uncle!!

    Before i read this thread i tried THREE times with different combinations of movement's to get my game to progress another turn but it just refused!
    When i read this i went round all my cities and stopped everything from being build and also cancelled the recruitment.
    After this was done i pressed the 'end turn' button and ....



    Hey-presto... My game went on another year! If only i'd have knew this before!!

    This sounds like a broken traits or ancillaries, for exmaple the character has acquired a certain ancillary but the accompanying UI is missing. Or the character acquired some traits but the description for the trait is missing.

    i think that have much more to do with the character traits as the ancillaries, coz this happens also on new family members ... as xample... i got a new family member and put him out of the city to use him some turns later, while he has got a trait 'natural born general' and i wont to give him only some selected ancillaries (like doctor, pontifex... etc.). 5-6 turns later i clicked on him and it crashes! loaded the game again and do some more turns... and it works again! but the character haven't got any ancillaries yet! only new character traits like: 'in the pink' or something like that!

    this happens also only since the patch 1.10a from RS is out... i am not for 100 percent sure, but i think that have something to do with new age (young, middle age, feeling his age) system in RS!

    Well Marcus you're 100% wrong about the age traits being the culprit. Since the various levels of the trait are all being used at the start of the game by various characters without CTD it isn't the age trait that is causing your problem, otherwise the game would be completely unplayable. There is one trait CTD that we know about and will be fixed in the next hotfix so if you're playing as Rome odds are it is that trait CTD that you're getting.

    If you try and view a generals traits and it CTD it's a trait issue (this includes trying to recruit units in a city with a general with the trait bug). The end turn CTD has nothing to do with traits because the AI will never open the trait window.

    ok... you're the specialist about the traits, ancillaries... etc.! as i said in my post above 'im not for 100% sure' ... it was only a suspicion from me! but good to hear that you fond the defected trait and will fix it in the next upcoming hotfix!

    ... this seems to be another bug! but i don't know why it happens! i only know that have nothing to do with the traits or ancillaries. if you cancel your unit creation in that city and tried it again a turn later it works for 100% again! so i think that have something to do with the unit or building update! but also here... im not for 100% sure!! i never noticed any end turn crashes from the ai, only from human player... and i never said something like that before!

    Well, I tried your suggestions, Marcus, but it doesn't seem to be working. The game is still crashing.

    I'm drawing a blank here, I'm disappointed this is where I am right now considering I went pretty damn far in the game.

    Here's a link of my savegame, if anyone can be bothered to load it up and try it out, please do and tell me how it goes. If it works on your computer it could be something with mine, so I'll take that as a victory as well.

    ok... found the bug in your save game!

    first... nice empire you created there

    i don't give you a save game back while i don't wont to fight your battles against the "Ptolemaic Empire" (too much men on the battlefield ). i think that's you honor!

    so if you want to get it to work again, cancel the building creation in the following settlements:

    -Dyrrhachium
    -Ambracia
    -Sparta
    -Kydonia
    -Knossos
    -Ephesus
    -Laodicea
    -Icosium
    -Burdigala
    -Lemonum
    -Avaricum
    -Aduatuca
    -Arretium
    -Bononia

    after the next turn you can start the building creation there again!

    i also noticed that some buildings in your settlements have a negative effect on public order bonus due law & happiness! you should better destroy them in the following settlements:

    "bardic circle" from 'Segestica' ... gives you 933 denarii back
    "execution square" from 'Xantus"
    "secret police network" from 'Saguntum' ... gives you 4133 denarii back

    and the "secret police hq" from the following settlements:

    -Carthago Nova
    -Corduba
    -Scallabis
    -Palma
    -Thapsus
    -Lepcis Magna
    -Halicarnassus


    that's it! it should be work fine again after you did this changes! njoy your great game!

    Marcus, what buildings were being created? Do you remember? One of our guys (Squid), has come up with the idea that having units change experience from building to building is the cause of the issue. If ALL the buildings were like...barracks, cavalry barracks, archery range...it would confirm this.

    I have already removed all the experience (as I intended to anyway) from units, but it would be good to confirm this.
