    Default easy egyptians?

i was wondering if anyone else had this experience. i was playing as house of Julii the ohter day when i got troops inside egypt for the first time ever, i was sieging a town when my small army (only 250 men) was attacked by 3 seperate egyptian armies of about 1000 men each. i decided the battle would be a waste of time so auto resolved and to my suprise won the battle having killed 2500 enemy and taken, i still dont belive it, 50 loses. at this point in the game egypt was the biggest badest faction going and so just kept attacking with full stack armies all of which 'i' beat (auto resolving because it worked so well) by the time i landed a new bigger army to back up my men my small army (now about 100 men) had killed at least 6000 egyptians. with my new army i basically took all the biggest egyptian cities which gave me the victory conditions of 50 provinces. is it just that roman troops are best suited against egyptians or is it pure luck?

Online, Egyptians are one of the most dangerous to fight against. Rome is also very tough to fight against because of their uber-units.

But I wouldn't call Egypt "easy." Far from it.

The Roman factions seems to get an advantage when autoresolving, while with phalanx factions it's quite the opposite.

    Hello Gary

There is always luck. But having fought several stacks I think you prove that it was more than that.

    I suggest:
    - Your game difficulty was not very hard. Medium/Easy?
    - You had advanced Roman troops. Not the early stuff..but mean heavy infantry types..urbans?

That said Im a bit surprised. Ive only once watched the AI battle with Egyptians and Romans. In a long German campaign I sent agents to watch what was happening between the games two superpowers Egypt and Scipii(both AI controlled). The Romans were winning...but after a few city captures and subsequent revolts, the Egyptians gained the upper hand. I assumed the Scipii Romans were better in auto resolve...but not by much.

you would think so but it was on hard (im new at RTW) which is partly why i was so suprised, i am at the point where i have urbans but it was just legionary cohorts (still v good i know) the other thing is that i foolishly attacked rome as soon as i got enough popularity (see noobtastic) but didnt have enough provinces to win yet, the other romans attacked me and were handing my ass to me on a plate, thats why i went off to egypt in the first place. is my campaign difficulty (medium) anything to do with it? should i put both on hard?

I think they're easy during regular battles too. I had like 500 against like 1500 Egyptians (I was attacking their city) and my archer auxilia took out almost all of them, and the rest were just crushed by my Cohorts.

But then I was in a battle where there were two full stacks of Egyptians against my 1 stack (Legion of about 3,500) and they killed me in the open desert.

So maybe they're just easy to beat in siege battles, and hard in the open.

So hard battle and medium campaign. Is auto resolve affectted by these settings? To be honest..I dont know.

Ive not used enough auto resolve in campaign mode to understand its finer points. Naval battles are all in auto resolve and on very hard difficulty few 50:50 combats go my way. Odd stacked heavily against you as difficulty goes up. But is it battle or campaign difficulty...good question.

Wondered how your Julii got right over to Egypt. Ive only gotten a few Brutii in touch with Egpyt. One day I will have to do a Scipii campaign and do my duty of wiping those Eggies out.

Good luck getting established in the corner. Maybe Scipii will come and see you soon.

I'm fairly certain that the auto-resolve aspect is controlled by campaign difficulty, so if you had it on medium, that might be why you won so easily. Not 100% sure though, so perhaps someone more knowledgeable about the difficulties could tell you for sure.

I'm 100% convinced that it is the campaign difficoulty that changes the odds of a battle. For example; when playing on easy, your navy (which has to autresolve battles) almost always win, no matter of the odds. But in Very hard difficoulty your navy almost always looses. I think it might have something to do with getting a greater challenge. And, as Kratos said, I think that the romans have an advantage when auto resolving. I don't know why but maybe the computer thinks that they have more balanced armies or something.

    I hope this helped.

It was probably the Roman bonus, but did they have any chariots? Thats what gives the Egyptians the upper hand playing as AI versus AI, because chariots get a huge auto-resolve bonus. This is also the reason the Britons steamroll Gaul and usually Germania. So, if they didn't have at least one chariot unit, they will be less dominant. Oh, and quality of troops probably affected it. Were their troops high end?

Egypt is the deadliest faction online (next to Rome). Only a human can exploit Egypt's units to the fullest.

from what I've read on the forums here, auto-resolving does tend to favour the player with regards to the player, however like its been said, egypt vanilla is next in line to rome when it comes to over powered units.

So I'd say its quite a common occurance.

What kind of difficulty level did you have and what kind of troops did they have?
