Default Is Evan Almighty taking it to far?

I saw Bruce Almighty and thought they were skating on thin ice, but this Evan Almighty movie looks like it could overstep some boundaries. I think it is despicable to make a comedy out of peoples beliefs, anyone else agree?

How did Bruce Almighty "take it too far"? Hell, we watched it in my youth group, and then had a discussion about it

The line was far broken with 'Life of Brian' or 'Last Temptation of Christ.'

Honestly, I can't see how Evan Almighty can add much to that.

    Excuse me?

Life of Brian is an excellent moral satire which you could call anti-religious.
On the other hand the Last Temptation is a deeply religious movie based on a deeply religious book; hardly the stuff that could mock anyone's belief...

It's kind of funny. If you read about the thoughts of the Python guys on Life of Brian they were actually going to originally make fun of the bible but after reading it decided that they respected the contents too much so they made up a parallel story. I think putting Jim Carey in a movie is taking it too far, not making religion funny. If anything religion needs to lighten up a little and relax and realize taht if some of the bible stories happened today people would think, say Job or Noah, were really down on their luck and out of their mind respectively.

How is it "taking it too far"? It's a ****ing comedy movie. If anything, it doesn't go far enough.

Life of Brian and Last Temptation were great movies -- Last Temptation is one of the best movies ive ever seen, one of my favorites of all time :O--

I dont like the Idea of a silly god who comes down and talks frankly with this douchebag or that-- I far prefer depictions of a cruel and unusual god, one that spins fires in the desert and leads men to madness--- the way god truly is

I didnt like bruce almighty I wont like evan almighty; I just didnt like the premise or the way it was executed( tho morgan freeman is fully qualified to play any god of flesh)

No, I don't think this is going too far at all...there have been worse slanders against religion and God in many other movies than Evan or Bruce Almighty...

Haha. When Bruce Almighty came out back a few years ago a classmate of mine went NUTS that God was actually portrayed by an actor...this kid was a very religious, mama's boy, black kid and all I can remember saying to him was how surprised I was that he was mad about the fact that God was portrayed as black.

Reminds me of Muslims not wanting people to draw Allah or Mohammed.

I am religious, but it is a comedy movie, so guess they could do whatever they want. It shouldn't be anyone's problem, if you don't like it, then don't go to it.

Though I do think that it is pretty ridiculous. Bruce Almighty was at least not trying to really make fun of it, Evan Almighty is just plain silly.

dont tell me a black god upset you?

personally i thought it was quite tame, they could of been alot worse. and tbh it wasnt bashing god, it was just showing what an average person would do with the power

No a black god does not offend me at all, there was a book we read in school, the title being the color of water, a reference to a line the main character says " God is the color of water". I believe this as well.

God laughed, and the world was created.

Commonplace belief in many of the oldest known/suspected Genesis stories....

Relax and no it does not take it too far, its a movie made for entertainment, if your beliefs are threatened by a comedy movie maybe you should reevaluate your beliefs.

His beliefs don't have to be threatened on a personal level for him to be pissed at someone poking fun at them. I haven't seen the movie, and it looks like a turd, but because he objects to a stupid movie doesn't make his faith any more or less sound than someone else's.
