Default Input signal out of range, please help

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post.

Anyway my problem is this, when I start a couple of my games, and the one I'm concerned about is Vampire Bloodlines, my monitor pops up with the message 'Inut signal out of range', now from what I can tell this is normally accompanied by a blank screen behind the message, however this isn't the case here. The game loads up normally and at no point does it show any graphical errors, and yet this message is smack bang in the middle of the screen, with the game right behind it. Now I can get by with computers but thats it, technical stuff is beyond me, so any help you can give would be gratefully recieved and I'll try and supply any info you might need.

    Thanks in advance.

Input signal out of range means resolution or refresh rate too high. The best if you check display properties and see what is setup: resolution, and refresh rate. BTW is it LCD Monitor or CRT?

    Hi, its an LCD.

The resolution is currently 1280 by 1024, though I have fiddled about and made it smaller which hasn't helped.
The refresh rate is currently 75 hertz and I've tried it on 70 and 60, the only other option I have is 80.

Might it need a certain combernation of the two? a certain resolution with a certain refresh rate?

LCD, ok, then refresh put on 60 and leave it, because refresh rate does not apply to LCD.

Is it happening only with vampire bloodlines?

I just had a thought, is your monitor installed properly, or just as pnp or default monitor?

The only other game its happened with it Battlefield 1942, it was actually ok the first time a played it on this PC (which is a few months old) then when I tried again this problem came up.

I don't think the monitor is installed, just said generic non-pnp (whatever that means).

By the way thanks ever so much for your help.

You are welcome, but we're not finished yet

Did you get drivers with you monitor - CD maybe? And what monitor is it: make, model number.

With the drivers issue, you could try running microsoft update (not windows update) and see if it picks up the monitor drivers - I know it did for me.

As for the actual problem, when I saw VTMB, I groaned So many bugs in that game I don't know where to start You running the unofficial patches and the like?

That's probably not the issue, though.

You running the latest video card drivers, out of interest?

Always looking for driver updates and I can't seem to find anyway to update the monitor driver but will keep looking. Not done the unofficial patches yet so will try that soon.

    Thanks for the advice!
