    RTR Platinum v1.9 Release

A Roman legion on the march.

Players should note that this is not the mod-foldered version of Platinum 1.9. This means that when installed it will overwrite a lot of the Vanilla RTW code making it unusable with either the vanilla game, or any other mod. This may mean uninstalling and reinstalling RTW should you wish to use another variant of the game - Tony83.

The RTR Platinum Team proudly presents the v1.9 build for download. There are several fixes and updates within this build, making it the most stable build for RTR Platinum. These fixes and updates though make it non-save game compatible. Because of this, and to make support easier, there will only be a single full installer available for download.

The Preferred RTW-Only Method for installing RTR Platinum v1.9:
    1. Install Rome Total War.
    2. Install the RTW v1.3 Patch.
    3. Install the RTW v1.5 Patch.
    4. Download and install the RTR Platinum Full Install. The "rtr_platinum_v1.9_full_install.zip" file is approxiamtely 220MB in size.

The Preferred RTW-BI Method for installing RTR Platinum v1.9:
    1. Install Rome Total War.
    2. Install Barbarian Invasion expansion.
    3. Install the BI v1.6 Patch.
    4. Download and install the RTR Platinum Full Install. The "rtr_platinum_v1.9_full_install.zip" file is approxiamtely 220MB in size.

Important New Features Note: With the new RTR Platinum v1.9 Release, a desktop shortcut is now created for starting RTR Platinum with the RTW game engine (shortcut named RTR Platinum) and a second desktop shortcut for starting RTR Platinum with the BI game engine (shortcut named RTR Platinum BI). You of course must have Barbarian Invasion installed, and patched to BI v1.6, in the folder you are installing RTR Platinum in to be able to run RTR Paltinum with the BI game engine. If you do not have Barbarian Invasion installed, the second shortcut (RTR Platinum BI) will be useles and can be safely deleted.

Another new desktop shortcut that will be available is the one named Multi-player Battle Reset. This shortcut can be used to play online multi-player battles between people with the exact same RTR Platinum installs. Before selecting Multi-player Battles from the game selection screen, ALT+TAB to your computer deskyop and double left-click the Multi-player Battle Reset shortcut to reset your RTR Platinum install so you can start a new multi-player battle. This must be done each and every time before selecting a new multiplayer battle and must be done by both players. What this shortcut does is run the batch file named "campaign_map_reset.bat", which is a batch file that will delete your current "map.rwm" file. This file will be regenerated when you start a multi-player battle, or single player battle, or a campaign game, whether a saved campaign or new campaign. For some reason the "map.rwm" file that is generated by the game engine when starting a single player battle or campaign game is different between RTR Platinum installs on different computers. I have not yet determined why this file is preventing problems, but if it does not exist and you let the game engine generate a new one when you start a multi-player battle, you will be able to fight online multiplayer battles. I've tested this between two computers with identical RTR Paltinum v1.9 installs on my home computer network and have been able to fight several multi-player battles. Fighting via GameSpy should get the same results.

Several people in the multi-player Total War community have asked for my assistance with getting MP battles to work with RTR Platinum, and this work-around solution should hopely make MP battles possible for them. If I can figure out a better solution, I will make it available to the Total War community.

Optional Step: Download and install the optional add-ons for RTRPE v1.9. They are exactly what their name implies and you do not need to install them if you don`t want to. These optional add-ons consist of...
    • No Landblocks Optional Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who do not wish to use the Libyan Desert Landblock and the Asia Minor Landblock. These are copies of the RTR Platinum files before the addition of the AI enhancing landblocks.
    • No Torches for Night Battles Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who do not wish their troops to have torches in night battles. These are copies of the original files of Vanilla RTW v1.5 that were overwritten by RTR Platinum. This optional add-on was requested by a few members of the RTR Forums community.
    • Roman Cognomen Mod: This is an optional add-on that will add more realistic full Roman names for your in-game Roman Republic characters.
    • Sinuhet's AI Battle Formations Mod: This is an optional add-on that will substitute the AI battle formations of Darth Dark Formations v16.0 for those of Sinuhet's AI Battle Formations Mod, which some prefer. I personally use this optional add-on and highly recommend it.
    • Vanilla RTW Grass Settings Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who wish to use the original grass settings in the "descr_grass.txt" file of Vanilla RTW. The grass settings in the "descr_grass.txt" file of RTR Platinum more realistically represent real-world grass in-game, but at the cost of increased hits to the FPS rate of the game. For lower-end computers, this can significantly decrease the FPS rate in battles, thereby decreasing the gaming experience of the player. This optional add-on was created to assist anyone playing RTR Platinum on a less than optimal computer to still enjoy RTR Platinum. This add-on may be especially useful for anyone who plays RTR Platinum on a laptop computer, due to laptop computers usually having a less capable graphics card.
    • Vanilla RTW Loading Bars Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who do wish to use the original loading bar of Vanilla RTW. These are copies of the original files of Vanilla RTW v1.5 that were overwritten by RTR Platinum. This optional add-on was requested by a few members of the RTR Forums community.

Below is a copy of the v1.9 Change Log. It can as be found in the "Docs\RTR Platinum Read Me" sub-folder of the folder you use chose to install RTR Platinum within.
    1.9 Change Log - 06/06/2007

    - Correction to "descr_names.txt" file, removed period punctuation mark from the end of the Parthian name "Cisantaxma"that was added by mistake some time in the past. This was reported by Macedonn.
    [File changed = descr_names.txt]

    - Changed the "shared.txt" file to where the titles "Faction Leader" and "Faction Heir" have both parts of the title name start with a capital letter for the UI.
    [File changed = shared.txt]

    - Change to capitalization of some UI text in the "strat.txt" file, such as "Army Upkeep", "Capital City", "Faction Leader".
    [File changed = strat.txt]

    - Added the creation of a desktop short-cut named as "Multi-player Battle Reset". Using this short-cut activates the "campaign_map_reset.bet" batch file, which will delete the "map.rwm" file from your RTR Platinum install. This will allow an online or LAN multi-player battle to be fought. You will need to use this short-cut to reset your RTR Platinum install every time before starting to create a new multi-player battle.
    [Desktop Short-cut added = Multi-player Battle Reset]

    - Changed Brutii name in "expanded_bi.txt" file to "Republic of Rome". Changed Scipii name in "expanded_bi.txt" and "shared.txt" files to "Slaves and Rebels".
    [File changed = expanded_bi.txt, shared.txt]

    - Changed Brutii name in "menu_english.txt" file to "ROMANS". Changed Scipii name in "menu_english.txt" file to "SLAVES AND REBELS".
    [File changed = menu_english.txt]

    - Updated Brutii, Scipii, and Senate unit cards to the ones used by the Julii.
{Files changed = Julii unit cards that are also used by the Brutii, Scipii, and Senate in the Data\UI\Unit_Info and Data\UI\Units folders for each faction]

    - Removed double space in some text seen by player in the "expanded.txt" file.
    [File changed = expanded.txt]

    - Cleaned up and removed last commented out Senate items from "descr_model_battle.txt" file.
    [File changed = descr_model_battle.txt]

    - Corrected EDB file listing for the Numidian "auxilia_phase2", "auxilia_phase3", "muster_field", and "militia_barracks" buildings for Numidia to list the faction requirement for "Berber Javelinmen" to be Numidia instead of Parthia. Thanks go to Florin for catching this error.
    [File changed = export_descr_buildings.txt]

    - Moved the fishing village for Patavium one pixel north in the "map_regions.tga" file. Previously it was positioned so that it straddled both sides of the Po River.
    [File changed = map_regions.tga]

    - Added the "Persian Sparabara" unit that was missing from the Seleucid barracks level of "auxilia_phase2", "auxilia_phase3", and "muster_field". This error was found by Florin.
    [File changed = export_descr_buildings.txt]

    - Changed name of "aor punic pikemen" in "export_units.txt" file from Libyan Spearmen to Libyan Pikemen. They were named Libyan Pikemen in their short description, but had the UI name of Libyan Spearmen, which could be confused with the "aor punic spearmen" unit which was also named Libyan Spearmen. Thanks go to Florin for catching this error.
    [File changed = export_units.txt]

    - Corrected EDU ownership error in the v1.8 release that would have prevented Numidia from recruiting several units listed as available for the "Carthaginian" culture. The factions that belong to the Carthaginian culture are Carthage and Numidia.
    [File changed = export_descr_unit.txt

    - Changed recruiting requirement for Libyan Pikemen to require the hidden resource "aor_egypt" instead of "aor_punic", so the Ptolemaic Empire can recruit Libyan Pikemen.
    [File changed = export_descr_buildings.txt]

    - In the EDB file inherited from RTR Gold, "slave bedouin", "slave bedouin archers", and "slave arab infantry" are all supposed to be available to the Slave faction for rebels, but can not be built due to the hidden resource of "aor_arab" not being assigned to any regions. After a little online historical research, and some guess work, it was decided to assign the hidden resource "aor_arab" to the following regions, Regnum_Palmyrae, Arabia, Nabataea, Sinai, Adygey, Muscat, Gaza, Jiddah, and Gerasa. This error was reported by Florin.
    [File changed = descr_regions.txt]

    - While correcting the "aor_arab" errors, I decided to do a quick check of the other hidden resources. I discovered that the "judaea" hidden resource that is needed for recruiting Judaean Zealots is not assigned to any region. I decided to add it to the Judaea region.
    [File changed = descr_regions.txt]

    - Changed the starting forces that are present at the start of a campaign in the rebel regions of Cyrenaica and Libya. This update was suggested by Florin, which I concur with too. The force chosen much more closely matches what units are available in the regions. This update was suggested by Florin, which I concur with too.
[File changed = descr_strat.txt] (Note: Changes were applied to the files of both the "barbarian_invasion" and "imperial_campaign" folders.)

    - Corrected incorrect movie references for Senate (Slavs) and Thrace (Kingdom of Bactria) factions in the "descr_sm_factions.txt" file.
    [File changed = descr_sm_factions.txt]

    - Added faction standards for buildings that were inadvertently dropped out at some point during development. These 27 tga files have been added to the folder named "Data\models_building\textures".
    [Files added = ##standard_armenia.tga.dds, ##standard_barb_rebels.tga.dds, ##standard_briton.tga.dds, ##standard_brutii.tga.dds, ##standard_carthage.tga.dds, ##standard_carthage_rebels.tga.dds, ##standard_dacia.tga.dds, ##standard_eastern_rebels.tga.dds, ##standard_egypt.tga.dds, ##standard_egyptian_rebels.tga.dds, ##standard_gaul.tga.dds, ##standard_german.tga.dds, ##standard_greek_cities.tga.dds, ##standard_greek_rebels.tga.dds, ##standard_illyria.tga.dds, ##standard_julii.tga.dds, ##standard_macedonia.tga.dds, ##standard_numidia.tga.dds, ##standard_parthia.tga.dds, ##standard_pontus.tga.dds, ##standard_scipii.tga.dds, ##standard_scythia.tga.dds, ##standard_seleucid.tga.dds, ##standard_senate.tga.dds, ##standard_slave.tga.dds, ##standard_spain.tga.dds, ##standard_thrace.tga.dds]

    - Added Macedonn's updated files that removed more of the text for the old Senate faction, along with removal of the unused Brutii and Scipii factions from the "descr_strat.txt" file. The "descr_strat.txt" file no longer uses the "Senate_is_Gone_Script.txt" campaign script that I wrote to eliminate any first turn messages, which in previous versions announced the demise of the Brutii, Scipii, and Senate factions. This file is no longer needed now that these factions are gone. Also, several files were cleaned up, and I updated the file notes for the EDU file. A "barbarian_invasion" folder was added to the "Data\world\maps\campaign" folder, along with duplicate copies of all files from the "imperial_campaign" folder. The "descr_strat.txt" file in the "barbarian_invasion" folder is an exact duplicate of the same file in the "imperial_campaign" folder, except that the line stating it uses the "barbarian_invasion" folder rather than the "imperial_campaign" folder.
    [Files added/updated = descr_banners.txt, descr_building_battle.txt, descr_character.txt, descr_event_enums.txt, descr_event_images.txt, descr_lbc_db.txt, descr_model_strat.txt, descr_names.txt, descr_sm_factions.txt, descr_sounds_events.txt, export_descr_buildings.txt, export_descr_character_traits.txt, export_descr_sounds_prebattle.txt, export_descr_unit.txt, lookup_campaign_descriptions.txt, Rome.lnt, backdrop.tga, barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names.txt, campaign_descriptions.txt, event_strings.txt, expanded_bi.txt, export_units.txt, menu_english.txt, shared.txt, strat.txt, battle3.rsd, shared2.rsd, strat3.rsd, BATTLEPAGE_03.TGA, #RTR_GREEK_HOPLITE_MILITIA.TGA, RTR_GREEK_HOPLITE_MILITIA_INFO.TGA, descr_regions.txt, map_regions.tga, descr_events.txt, descr_mercenaries.txt, descr_regions_and_settlement_name_lookup.txt, descr_strat.txt, descr_terrain.txt, descr_win_conditions.txt, description.txt] (Note: Changes were applied to the files of both the "barbarian_invasion" and "imperial_campaign" folders.)

    - Several updates or error corrections were made to units in the EDB and EDU files. One of these corrections, for "german clubmen" required changes also to the DMB file and the addition of its tga files in the "Data\UI\unit_info" and Data\UI\units" folders. The units corrected were the "rtr german youngspears", "aor gaul spearmen", "aor german warband", "german clubmen", "aor greece thessalian cavalry", "aor italy spearmen", and "greek hoplite militia".
    [Files added/updated: descr_model_battle.txt, export_descr_buildings.txt, export_descr_unit.txt, Data\UI\unit_info\Merc\RTR_GERMAN_CLUBMEN_INFO.TGA, Data\UI\units\Merc\#RTR_GERMAN_CLUBMEN.TGA]

    - Moved the location of the "slaves" resource in the Baliares region, and the "purple_dye" resource in the Cyprus region.
[File changed = descr_strat.txt] (Note: Changes were applied to the files of both the "barbarian_invasion" and "imperial_campaign" folders.)

    - Eliminated the "GoodDiplomat" trait from 3 generals in the "descr_strat.txt" file; Edrigu for the Iberains (faction Spain), Kersos and Rhaskos for the Bactrians (faction Thrace). The "GoodDiplomat" trait is supposed to be only available to diplomat character type, as per the "export_descr_characters.txt" file.
[File changed = descr_strat.txt] (Note: Changes were applied to the files of both the "barbarian_invasion" and "imperial_campaign" folders.)

    - Corrected the mercenary pool for Eygpt to list only list one line for mercenary Greek Hoplites.
[File changed = descr_mercenaries.txt] (Note: Changes were applied to the files of both the "barbarian_invasion" and "imperial_campaign" folders.)

    - Corrected textures for Illyrian Light Cavalry (Ippiko) and Illyrian Heavy Peltasts (Thureophoroi).
[Files changed = illyria_cavalry.tga.dds, illyria_heavy_peltast.tga.dds] (Note: These files are contained in the "Data\RTR\models_unit\textures" folder.)

    - Corrected glitches and graphics errors on campaign map. Also, region borders were slightly changed for Aemilia, Etruria, and Umbria regions in Italy; and Africa, Utica, Zeugitana, Byzacium, Massylia, and Garamantes in North Africa, to assist the AI in-game. These border changes make all areas of a region accessible to AI forces without their having to cross into other regions that could be control by other factions, thereby creating "border incidents" that could set off a war between these factions. One example of a reason the AI, or player, needing to have access to all areas of a region, is to eliminate a rebel army that has appeared in a remote area of a region.
    [Files changed = map_features.tga, map_ground_types.tga, map_heights.tga, map_regions.tga]

    - Changed EDU to reduce most of the 2 HP's units to 1 HP. Reduced the "egyptian hypaspist", "seleucid hypaspist", "greek hypaspist", "greek hoplite elite", "illyrian hoplite heavy", "carthaginian sacred band infantry", "bactrian swords", "seleucid swords", "macedonian swords", "greek bastarnae", and "merc bastarnae" units from 2 HP's to just 1 HP, and then added 50% to their defense skill. Reduced the "greek hoplite spartan" unit, or Spartans, from 3 HP's down to 2 HP's and added 50% to their defense skill. Increased the "rtr german eliteswords", the only RTRPE unit with the berserker attribute, from 1 HP to 2 HP's, leaving their defense skill as per the EDU of the RTRPE v1.8 release. The only units remaining in the EDU with multiple HP's still are the general's bodyguard units and the various chariot units. The reason for this change is to correct for the overly weighted effect that multiple HP units have with auto-calced battles, which all AI vs. AI battles are calualtaed as.
    [File changed = export_descr_unit.txt]

    - Corrected a few last typos in the "descr_strat.txt" file found just before release.
    [File changed = descr_strat.txt]

    - Updated campaign map region borders to better conform to terrain. Added river ford near Antiphilos to allow movement between each portion of the Germonacris region on both sides of the Dniester River. Resource locations were moved for Etruria and Transalpine Gaul to account for region border changes. These changes were worked out by Florin and Marcus Camillus.
    [Files changed = map_features.tga, map_regions.tga, descr_strat.txt]
