Like:
Everything not mentioned in dislikes, and I have done lots of raving about SPQR around the forum.
Dislike:
How many factions are destroyed before I get to fight them
How the battles take so long (the only reason I don't like the super long battles, is cause I have to fight a lot of them, and it does get tedious eventually. This is one reason I am still playing 6.2 instead of 6.35).
I can't really think of many things I don't like. Perhaps I miss diplomacy a little from M2TW, but this game isn't about diplomacy, its about ROME conquering europe from all enemies, or failing the attempt.
How many battles you have to fight against one nation before the succumb. It would be awesome if our computers could support three 30,000 man battles instead of twelve 7,000 man battles for example. Then individual battles would matter even more, and they would be even more interesting. But I can't say I hate this about SPQR, because SPQR is the BEST mod for a TW game as far as the battles go.
Dont forget in Roman times there really werent ANY significant Battles that mattered, even after Cannae Rome just Replaced their Loses with MORE men, and Gaul and Germany seemed to have an ENDLESS supply of men. lol
Donts:
-Dont like the fact that Carthage is relatively esay to take over. (more relatively rich provinces on the south maybe?)
-Dont like the fact that you have to start the script every time after a save game (although that loadin game message that Garnier posted makes it easier)
-Dont like the weak Roman Navy, though i understand why you made it that way
-Dont like the Iberian Rebels (maybe having a faction there thats permaently allied to Carthage and Gauls could leave the balance while making making the Iberians, or iberian gauls or whatever, be more responsive when Rome invades their territory).
-Sicily, Pavatium and North Africa are consantly revolting (i find it weird coz they're relatively close to Italy)
Recommendations:
-more music? perhaps? maybe? =D
-Historical names at the begnning of the campaign (hannibal & Mago Barca)?
find a way to include the new ptolemaics in.
-add BI stuff like reappearing factions and swimming (performance may hurt but we can lower the settings as needed, unless thats not the real problem)
- a lil' movie maybe?
- i mentioned this on another thread, but more provinces for Britannia so they're tougher to take, and you can disable the roads for them, so that it takes longer to travel therefore there wont be that many sieges per turn while you can add an extra bonus to their temples to compensate for the loss of public order of the missing roads.
Dos:
- Love the skins
- Love the long epic battles
- I havent seen it yet, but i think im gonna love the starting situation with Carthage on Italy.
- Love the numbered system for Legions
- love the current music
- love the high movement points on ships.
I can't think of anything I particularly dislike about this MOD. There are loads of things I love about this MOD. Particularly the Legion system, large battles....the list is endless. I would have stopped playing RTW a while ago if it wasn't for this mod. Well Done!
Well in 6.4 hopefully Carthage will be mroe challenging. ;-)
Rebellions in Sicilia are Gone and Unrest is adjusted.
Cant do perminent Allies the AI will BREAK it. only using alexander is that possible.
Script is a Life for most mods, but atleast mine is NOT manditory. ;-)
Hannibal is in the game already you must have not noticed him. :-)
The greek style Egyptians may be an addon when I finish SPQR.
Using the BI.exe SLOWS the campaign down alot even on highend systems, probably has to do with the game looking through folders and such not in the home directory. Roman Rebels reimmerge abiet because of my little island. ;-) Swimming isnt that big to suffer a performance hit for it. I tested BI.exe and found the Game had alot of bugs using it. Like Loading Screens not showing up. plus I couldnt get the units to swim, required more work than it was worth for 1 feature.
I would like a movie also. Maybe it could happen, but its time consuming.
I felt Briton was tough already adding more provinces just delays things, but I would be open, the problem is the Map EDITING take alot of work if you dont know how to use the tool. lol I always had someone make the map with my advice. Plus one of the OLD SPQRs did have alot of cities and there were MAJOR complaints on Constant siege battles. You dont hear those ocmplaints anymore. ;-)
There are some changes I think you will like in 6.4, 6.4 is really for Vertan SPQR players as a parting gift of the Last version of this Mod.
I absolutely love the atmosphere and the aestheic created by This mod!!!It totally brings to mind the old epics of yesteryears cinema when Computer graphics could not stand in place of 10,000 men!!The music,improved skins and seemingly increased dust do nothing but add to the feeling of the battles soaked in blood,dust and glory!!!an excellent job and my personal favourite!!!!
I love the music in battle since im a Conan fan. Perhaps a tune or two more would make it even more amazing like the theme from Conan the destroyer...Rider of Taramis. The marching music from Spartacus Battle is great when troops are moving and forming up.
Perhaps gladiators should be removed and roman/gaul cavalry added instead.
The 0 recruitment turn is great.
Getae unit would a fun add aswell, and i hope that the egypt reskin might be added aswell. Able to recruit spartans mercs they should be few though.
Last but not least if even possible when conquering Rome if its possible to gain som trait called Emperor or similar.
Hehe more like personal requests instead of like and dislike. But i cant say i dislike anything about the mod, a few new touches can only make it even better.
dislikes
- maybe the skins can be made a bit more realistic (other skins for egypt)
- more types of mercenaries, especially in the northern area)
- maybe adjust (not necessarily more) the provinvces
- some factions die out too soon, it's always the same factions who are left to fight each other (rome (as player), greece, egypt and armenia)
- not extra traits that gives you penalties when you make to much money. i always make lots of money, i can maintain my empire with few troops and therefore i spent no more money than necessary. if you spent al your money on troops, you have lots of costs that results in having half of your cities having a negative income. that can't be right?
- i haven't played the latest version yet, but i wouldn't like it if the battles would take any longer than they take now (6.2), now they're perfect!

everything else apart from the things i mentioned above, especially the big battles which are a real challenge.
I don't like the behavior of AI, in the original RTW AI do invade land by sea a lot. In SQPR this seams to be history, but why? Something hase been done wrong and the AI behavior is changed a little.
Add more battle music from some movies like Attila, Conan, ...

As I've started to creat an new map for SQPR, I also noticed how hard it is to make some serious changes to this game. So all respect to Lt and to the others who have made this mod. Nice work guys !!!
ovidiu, The AI in the vanilla 1.5 doesnt invade alot at all. Look at the Bug reports for it. lol In BI it does. BUT you will find the AI will invade ALOT if you have a city in italy belonging to it. That part of the AI is HARDCODED. ;-) So nothing I CAN do will change that.
Atticus, There are PLENTY of mercs in 6.4 I think you will like it. ;-)
Adjusting provinces in what way? As you heard map editing is a pain.
This is different from each player most say Macedon kills greece, Ihad to adjust to help greece. Actually it all depends on who you have trade rights and who you allies are on who lives to the end. Trust me if I had it my wayy the AI would all be friends, but that feature is only in Alexander.
Dont worry about the Money trait is DOESNT work in SPQR for some reason. A beta tester pointed it out to me to my horror. lol I think having the senate with BI options but NOT having all three families united is causing the wierd hardcoded bug.
Negative income comes from your lack of understanding RTW in general. The negative doesnt MEAN you are losing money, it means you Those cities foot more of the bill. I think CA bugged the text up as its hardcoded and confused players since RTWs release. Means nothing in other words. lol
Battles are fine in length. I HAD to adjust because of the missile fix.
About factions being destroyed too soon: maybe we could make the garrison script to benefit the AI when invaded by another AI. Now it works only when the human player attacks; if it could be made to work agains AI factions too, it would be more difficult for them to extirpate each other.
I heard they do something similar in some MTW2 mod, I don't remember which.
The thing I like most in SPQR is the formation system for human player. Now I can play with the pre-marian original formation and actually enjoy it; I don't have to bother anymore with placing units in the right positions, I just do SHIFT+2 and they take place. Wonderful. There are some issues with the post-marian formation, but I haven't fully experimented with them yet...

I like SPQR a lot. Well, I love it actually.
What I don't like:
-The roman navy (yeah, I know why it is the way it is, but I still dislike it)
-Some cities revolting all the time, specially in Sicily and Spain.
-Roman rebels going always Scipii. I would like to see roman revolting cities going simply regional rebels sometimes (Perhaps 60/40). Is this possible, making rebels from two different nations randomly (scipii and rebel)?
-Sometimes you must have to fight too many endless battles in too many few turns (Oh Man, Ye Olde Mac Horde Comes To My Mind) and gaming time is short :-(
-I would like to see some mercenary heavy cavalry units recruitable both in Spain and Gaul, at least.

For me is the best Mod and I'm loving it, I'm very fan and it is the only reason by which I continue playing for Rome total war.
the battles, The skins, system of legions, ....almost everything.
-Faction Carthage is very easy
-I'm a veteran SPQR player, I play with the LT rules in VH\VH,and playing with Romans, sometimes is very easy to conquer everything. I like more dificulty in the new version, for example: more army's for the Germans and Gauls, Greeks, Etc...
-In general, more Elite troops in the enemie army, dislike: milician, etc...
-More different mercenary, specially Greeks type.

i remember one of the earlier version of SPQR where the three roman families still existed and had different shades of red... maybe the same can be done for the Scipii (have their skins colored with a different shade of red)? It would basically highlight the fact that they were still Roman with the same armor, standards, equipment. etc, and that they've only gone evil lol. The fact that they're currently blue kinda takes away some realism.
Looking forward to 6.4 :-)

What I dont like... a very difficult question.....
Not being able to recruit legions in order I II III IV V VI etc and instead having II XXV XIV and nothing in between! This is largely due to the way legion recruitment is based on provinces.
I would suggest that the further you get from Rome the higher the legion number so we get most of the early legions in Italy (I mean literally I II II IV etc in Roman starting provinces!) then in northern Italy and Africa... followed by Iberia and Greece then Gaul so the numbers get higher with roughly the desired Roman player/historical expansion of Empire... I hope that is clear enough....
