    Default Thoughts on garrison

what are the mod's plans for the garrison script? will there be one implemented for the player? ive read teh other posts on the garrison script and been wondering if anything is going to be done with it, my thoughts are:

ive just played an english campaign (attempted) with the ai garrsion script on, ive been at war for over 30 years (60 turns) and find highly unfair for the ai (not only cause of the fact that get a hugh defensive advantage, but they dont even have to pay for the initial costs?!) anyhow i do hope something can be worked out as it was one of the things i was looking forward to for this mod

    btw gj on everything else!
-win the initiative and you win the battle, win the battles; win the war
-it is truly the soldier who yearns for peace the most
-hannibal didnt use his victory, alexander didnt keep his victory, and caesar was killed because of it; ah the politics of war

If I remember right the player had one when the scipt first came out but it made the game too easy...so that portion of it was scapped. It is good when it takes alot of time and troops to fight wars...attrition is king.

i know what you mean about attrition, but considering the ai doesnt even have to pay the initial costs of garrison, scots always get full stacks (2-3) every 2 years or so, while i only have 1 to 1 1/2 stacks to fight them off, i win, i go back to replenish to come back and only find more, been doing that forever (cant really do anything with my economy, everything is for the war effort) and since france and flanders are at war with me (backstabbing flemish!), im just getting tired of getting no where

Well thats not true - the ai surely pays for it. Just press the "~" button to bring the game console after you have put the siege and press the up cursor button several tmes to see thelatest game commands. Eventualy you will see something like add_money scotland - 3000 (if you attack edinburgh) or less money if other scottish settlement. It just gives the chances for the ai as it does not bother itself with protection. Well try to avoid several assaults (even in one turn) or chose the settlement with a full stack - it will be no respawned units in this case.

Do you auto-resolve your battles constantly? Otherwise, I don't understand your bone with garrisons.

I like to fight field battles, and I like to fight siege assaults as well. But without garrisons, you don't get enough of the second one. Garrisons compensates for the AI's inability to provide proper defensive forces for his cities and fortresses.

There is also some historical foundation in the form of historical local militias, if you need some semantic justification (I do it!).

Perhaps then you agree with garrisons, but are simply not happy with the troop makeup of the spawning "militias". There are too many elite units you say. Maybe you are right, but I militias were no slouch as they contained some upper class citizens as well. Maybe garrisons could have some well armoured units although they would be not as skilled.

Nothing like the crash of infantry in the streets of your ennemy, and the massive grinding that ensues!

Field battles are very dynamic and depend more on moral because of field manouevres like flanking and encirclement (unless you have a shooting standoff). Siege battles are slower, more deliberate activities where the emphasis is more on attrition and fatigue. Both are great experiences but garrisons allow you to savor more of both.

dont get me wrong, i like the idea of a garrison script with surrounding militas coming to help, i just dont like it when they dont come help defend me , i also dont mind having the elite units, however insted of town militia/spear militia the majority should be peasents, a few milita units, and then fewer elites

Someone just told me that the garrison script degrades speed a lot.
How do you exactly turn it off?
Will I still be able to play my old campaing if i do so?
    thx

Dont ofuscate yourself! It's pointless to resist . . .

the enhancer 02, lets you have a custom campaign without the garrison script

Yup...If you are impatient and can't stand waiting 1min - 2 min a turn then you can play without the scripts with enhancer_02 and that should free up alot of the "lag" at the cost of the script benefits.

With the english you should not have any troubles with garrison once you get longbow capabilities. A small english army with 5 or 6 longbow units can wipe out stacks of scottish and other armies at ease. All you need is a few infantry for defense.
