Generals and upgrading?

How do you upgrade a general to full plate once you have the tech, I have retrained generals in facilities with heavy armorer etc, but no luck, can't seem to remember how to do it. I have trouble with this since vannilla.

There actually isn't a mechanism built in. You have to actually recruit a general with it built in. Once you have the full_plate event you can recruit them.

In order to make it work correctly, I'd have to reorganize the generals to have armor upgrades instead. However you wouldn't get the upgraded horses.

I'll live, there are bigger fish to fry, just curious that I wasn't being completely crazy
