    Icon9 excruciatingly slow

    WoH!
I just transfered from LTC to DLV and I got to say that aside from some minor stuff like the faction names which are I supose more realistic historically are way too confusing for me, I think everything else is a lot cooler.

But then there is this weird problem with speed in the campaing, that almost cripples the game.

Im runnin an overclocked athlon 4600+ with a gtx 8800 and it almost takes a minute or more to finish an AI's turn!!! and I just read this speed stuff will only get worse as the campaing progresses.

I tried everything they recomended to gain speed but I never noticed any differences.

Do them scripts and map do so much stuff as to convert my glorious skynet into a portable calculator??¿?¿?¿? Is there anyway to force a multicore processor to run a game at 100%?

Dont ofuscate yourself! It's pointless to resist . . .

1 minute cripples your game?! There are alot of people that play with less powerfull systems then yours that have to wait much longer. I don't see how waiting one minute is killing the game for you. It has alot of calcs to perform with the large map and many scripts. It is worth the wait for all that. /sigh just another example of the times I guess. Everyone is so impatient.
    HOPE IS NOT A STRATEGY!

Felt the same about the names at first but now when I try other mods that use the vanilla names *they* feel weird

Considering what DLV actually does in the background I think its a fair trade off. In fact if you are playing at VH/VH the turn time is a useful moment to contemplate what to do next. Also a good time to pray that your 87 year old king doesnt drop dead and leave the realm to a bed ridden 12 year old miles from any settlement...

Of course DLV aint everyones cup of tea but I find it really puts the excitement back into MTW2...

i played DLV on a much worse pc than those and i can honestly say it didn't ruin my gaming experience; yes its slow but after 4 years of this damn computer being so slow i reckon ive got used to it. you're not even playing in the AIs turn so as long as gameplay's good thats all im worried about.

I can see what you mean Pizza de Oveja that it might put off some people, but us addicts can't help ourselves. I make a fresh brew of coffee or tea, visit the fridge, sort through paperwork, make notes about other things (my real life), make phone calls, do some house cleaning. I also believe that scripters will find quicker/neater ways to do things. But, it's CA's language and if a mod wants to do more stuff with more factions it may take a little time.

If you want to play with LTC loading times, and campaign movement speed, simply remove the garrison script. that cleared the problem for me. The enhancer_01 has that as a custom campaign, or manuel remove it from the DVL 3.1.

It REALLY boost the performance ALOT.

    Woh! really? that sounds great.
I've been hearing a lot about that garrison script but as always with something I dunno what it is, they suppose everyone else knows exactly what they are talking about...
    Whats does that thing do?
I wouldnt want to loose any of the added realism I find cool in DLV but if it does really enchance performance that much...
I know most people have crappy computers and they have to wait 20 minutes for a turn to end but well I dont. Why I should have to wait in the line with the beggars when I have it bigger better and faster?????? (the last one didnt sound so good)

I hardly think that the problem is cpu power (which would mean there is nothing to do about it). 1 minute of my computer and it can process half a decent video stream and thats among the most intense cpu stuff one can do.
My guess is that the script's somehow not optimized. I used to work as a programer and that was usually were I screwed up.

It's true it's a relatively small price to pay to play med II the best way I've experienced so far but...I wish in next version they gave some attention to that.

What the garrison script does is when a settlement is besieged, the script spawns an army inside that settlement after you besieged the town / castle.

Meaning if a settlement had 5 units in the settlement, and you besiege that settlement, you would now face and army of 12 - 15 units. You can avoid fightning the support if you engage in the first turn of the siege, if you have artillery, then the script wont have time to react, atleast i think they are spawned at the end turn.

It does for both the PC and NPC, and i find it very unrealistic that all of the sudden 10 units are found within the settlement and they are well armed and well trained ( exp 2 or 3 )

I would suggest you use the enhancer_02 and use the custom campaign where Repman already have removed the garrison script from one of them, they have descriptions now so its easy to figure what does what.

They are spawned as soon as you "hit" the town/castle. You can only avoid it, if the castle/town is completely ungarrisoned and you move inside within one turn.

About the "long turn" time issue. Finally I get the chance to say a "In my youth" sentence.

Grasshopper, in my youth we waited ten to fifteen minutes for a 300kb game to fire up on our C64s (that's after we went to school barefooted 10 miles through the thunderstorm). So what the heck.. go buy some mobile or sumthin...

Maybe you need a better Comp.... I have maybe 45sec load times with an AMD3200 so I don't think your super computer matters much.

Ic....what i dont understand is how that thing would grind the game speed down so much. I dont know what it is but the difference in the time it takes to pass a turn in LTC or vainilla against DLV is huge...not talking about a bunch of secs but more like a minute or even more and I think it is only getting worse as my campaing progresses, (even thou Im doing everything I can to reduce the amount of armies the AI has to control).

I will try your suggestion as although I find that garrison thing interesting Im certanly not trading that for speed.

I dont think it is a matter of CPU. I've done a lot of more intensive cpu stuff on my computer and I never had any problems with speed till DLV3.1. As for graphics I find it hard to believe that a GTX 8800 cant handle that map like piece of cake, expecially after seeing what it does for 20 unit per side battles in full 1900x1200 pixels glory.

I came from playing AD where the wait time was 10 to 20 min after about 200 turns, so 1 minute is great for m

It's not slow because of your PC, it's slow because it takes time for the AI to move around the map and do what they need to do.

perhaps catch up on your summer reading between turns, or switch mods

The quickest route may not always be the most fun.

    even on my older computer:
    ASUS A8N-32 SLI DELUXE
    AMD +4400 X2 OC to 2.75
    8800 GTX
I still dont have to wait past like even 15 seconds... even on like turn 400...

its ur CPU, or ur RAM. check that they are running maxed out. go into ur BIOS and see what speed ur RAM is running. it wont matter if u have 2 gigs of DDR2 800 RAM if they are only running at DD2 400 speeds... it will just be SLOW cuz they are underclocked, and DD2 has some high ass latencies.
