    Default New computer

Hi, I am planing on buying a new computer for around 1,000 dollars and I was wondering what would be the best performance pc I could get with it? I am looking for a computer that I will be able to play games like MTW:2 on high settings, would this be possible for the price?

K im goign to assume your just after the tower, your using american dollers and can use Newegg and can salavge things like DVD drives, mouse, keyboard, tower and monitor.

It's a tight fit but if you use the available mail in rebates you can probably keep it under $1000 but it wont be much more otherwise.

    Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 - $118.99

    CPU E6420 Conroe $186.00

RAM GeIL Esoteria 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $149.99 (Need to check thsi for compatability)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144069

    Graphics Card EVGA 8800GTS - $379.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071

    HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB - $129.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148136

    Power Supply - OCZ 600W GameXStream - $119.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341001

    Total $1084.95
Don't think I missed anything out, you may want to invest a bit into a 3rd party cooler for the CPU and overclock it a fair bit since the power is wasted otherwise. Hopefully someone else will look over my choices and give comments but except the memory which needs it's compatability checked I don't see any problems

Im pretty sure this should fullfill your needs, if you wan't to splash an extra $100 you can probably change the 8800GTS for a GTX for some extra oomph but check you have enough room inside your computers tower for the size of the card and if you have a fairly decent sound system amybe a sound card would be a good choice though to be frank I find onboard sound to be pretty good as it is.

    Anyway hope that helps.

thank you very much for the help, How hard would all of this be to assemble? Would someone with little knowledge about electronics such as myself be able to build one?

That's a pretty good setup there. Keep in mind all the rebates as well.

You can get the Artic Freezer 7 Pro for $35.

As for a case you'll have to decide that as it mostly depends on preference (Antec makes nice affordable cases).

Additionally might I suggest a Hiper PSU, they have great reviews all around, very affordable, unique industry style modular cabling and are just breaking out into the US market (580 is Out of stock @ newegg but available here).

The 500 Seagate is great but for ten bucks more you can split up your harddrive into two Western Digital Caviar 250's for an internal backup solution. It really depends on your needs and space requirements.

The last thing is you'll have an over-clocking workhorse if you decide to.

    Edit:

It really isn't all that difficult to put together if you take your time, read the manuals, plan ahead, ask questions here and have fun doing it. The toughest part of the process comes in if you get a bad component (troubleshooting).

I would get cheaper RAM. $150 for two gigs is crazy expensive nowadays. I can get 4 gigs of quality DDR2 800 for that much up here in Canada...

Gamexstream PSUs are also pretty loud...maybe go with the Corsair 520 or 620.

Everything looks ok. However, if you're not OC'ng you can get a cheaper mobo as well.

quoted for truth. ddr2 ram is so unbelievably cheap these days. the GeIL has a $60 mail in rebate to consider though, so its not $150, but I haven't had the best luck with rebates so...

    Heres a OCZ 4gb kit (2x2048) for $199

Heres a nice case- Antec nine hundred:

    It's actually only $90 after $60 rebate.

Sound cards really help performance. In BF2 I turned sound from high quality to low and gained 7-10 FPS... I imagine I can get 5 more if I bought a sound card, but 5 FPS isn't worth the $100 for me..
    We will ne'er forget

If your going to build your own, keep your current monitor which I assume is fairly decent (unless its a crappy 15" CRT job then you should have replaced it already) and don't need a OS (Windows XP/Vista) then a PC that run MTW2 at high settings is very much doable.

For CPU's Intel's Core 2 Duo's are the way to go, they are very overclockable so invest in a decent heatsink and fan. Basically just read the buyers guide thread at the top of this thread for what to do.
