    Icon4 Buying Rome

Ok, this is a stupid question but i play Medieval TW 2 and pretty much done everything in the game and i dont want to play it again till i get the expansion pack. But i saw Rome TW and it looked good but it looks the same as Medieval TW besides the different units and factions. But i was hoping someone could tell me if I should buy it and what is so better about it than Medieval. I don't want to waste my money if im getting a game that is the same as medieval tw.

Please tell me if it is better or not!!!

Its much better then medieval considering it has a lot more diversity and units and also there are so many mods out there for it that improve it that you will absolutely never get bored of the game!

    In my opinion short version:
    RTW > MTW II

    In my opinion long version:

RTW revolves around the time of the rising of the Roman empire and classical era which I find more interesting than the dark ages or medieval times. The Game also features a more cleaner and smoother game play than MTW II, for units will actually obey your commands and press forward in combat.

The only problems with it is in the later patches with missiles being insanely strong. But since RTW has plenty of mods, including my favorite RTR, its worth it. Even today I still play this game now and than.

I have had Rome: Total War since early April of 2005 and I still play it just as much today as I did when I 1st bought it. Once you finish the campaign as a particular faction, then you can choose to start a brand new campaign as a different faction and have a completely different experience compared to your 1st campaign. There are literally hundreds of hours packed into vanilla Rome: Total War.

And then you have the mods, which I won't get into, but there are many great modifications that you'll have a lot of fun with.

Not to mention I believe Rome: Total War is now $29.99, maybe less.

Well if you're playing as the Romans, infantry aren't cannon fodder taking heavy losses while your heavy knights hit the flanks or do all the work... Infantry actually conquer the globe.

Also you're going to have to use more stratgety in the game and a well balanced army can go along way rather than in M2TW where a stack of knights can decimate the world.

If you play SPQR mod, you're going to have many large epic battles every turn. Just a few minutes ago I barely repelled 2 stacks of Gauls with 1 Legion. Intense.

Rome has a better campaign due to all the different types of civilazations. and there is still 3d graphics so its good. i bought mtw2 but rtw is just so good you cant resist

Definitely worth it as their are some truly outstanding mods for RTW. I have MTW2 as well and it's in my closet collecting dust at the moment and will continue to do so for the time being.

The gameplay is indeed rather similar to MTW2. You've different units, different factions and a lot of mods, which guarentees replayability. The strongest argument for Rome is probably the low price.

You just have to love RTW. I have played it in 2 years and I haven't got bored yet. Ive only played vanilla Rome, and it has been enough for me. When i bought medieval 2 I was disappointed by the game, because RTW was so much better! If you still doubt if you're going to buy it or not; don't hesitate!

Here are several reasons to get R:TW:

    1) the Ancient time period was a golden age for warfare (Alexander the Great, Hannibal, Julius Caesar, etc)

    2) you can buy RTW in the States for $20 (if you can find the original game by itself). If you get the Gold Edition (which includes RTW and the Barbarian Invasion), then it's only $30. FYI, I never play BI.

    3) cavalry is fast & furious (except for Cataphracts) lol

    4) there is still a thriving multiplayer community that plays this game on GameSpy

My reasons for playin rome INSTEAD of M2TW

    1. My computer is so weird so rome is much faster

    2. More variations of units

    3. Rome

    4. Legions

    5. Epic Battles

    6. Mods, many mods

    7. Multiplayer

hmmm i gotta agree with the people in terms of yes, you have GOT TO play rome if you still haven't. it is a great game.

however, as much as i hate to be the odd one out, i do like M2TW too, just as much as RTW, and i don't understand really why most people love RTW more. oh well, i guess people have different opinions right? lol )

It all depends how important graphics are to you. Medieval II is very impressive in this respect and looks a generation ahead of Rome. Having said that it's about the only area where MII is better.

I enjoy dipping into MII every now and then but I've played Rome nearly every day since its release! I find it addictive. It has the better campaign; more diverse armies; better battles; better music; better factions; and, in my opinion, a much more interesting time period.

Vanilla Rome is good but the mods make it escalate new heights, and there are plenty currently available to choose from, with still more being developed - there's life in the old dog yet!

It's also dirt cheap. Amazon are selling the "White Label" version for £8 UK (even as low as £4 via its sponsored outlets!). It was via one of these "White Label" that I chanced across Shogun a few years back, which was my introduction to the TW series. It changed my PC gaming life forever.

At that sort of price what is there to lose?

when I first bought Rome, I was stunned. And that was even before I found out about how to change unit sizes, and Mods!

Medieval I was merely pleased. It would have impressed me more had I not had Rome first.
