Thread: RTR army size

    Default RTR army size

i have been reading some posts around here and i have seen many people say they have killed 520.000 macedonians and lost 150.000 romans (of course not only in one battle). All this until 152BC...how is this possible? the population of all my cities together hardly reaches 40.000 and i'm already in 162 BC!

another question is how can those guys have units formed by 240soldiers while i have the saame units and only have 80 soldiers!? if theres any way of changing the number of soldiers of each unit i would really like to know....

i mean we can't be palying the same game...........

When you load the game (before you start a campaign/battle)

    (1) Go to Options
    (2) Video Settings
    (3) Advanced
    (4) Change unit size to "HUGE"

And you've got 240 men units. You'll have to start a new campaign however.

Even on the 'Huge' settings not all units contain 240 men - this is the maximum size - probably only available for some Barbarian units.

The following is the settings for Romans (checked post Marian so I don't have many full strength units left).

    Principes - 162
    Funditores - 160

    Post Marian Reform Units;
    Equites Alares - 80
    Legionares - 162
    Aquilla Legionares - 175
    Latin Velites - 160

If you use RomeSage you can change the unit size for your existing campaign. I've seen that you can change the unit size so it may be possible to exceed the 240 maximum (I've not tried that though).

In some mods the First Cohort Legionaries have 243 men with officers.

They might also count it with a 1:10 unit scale, meaning that one soldier on the field represents 10 soldiers. Thus losing 1500 units in one battle means you have lost 15.000 men.

This is because the officers aren't taken into the 240...240 soldiers and one, two, or three officers.
